International Day of Women and Girls in Science – February 11, 2022~World
The International Day of Women and Girls in Science on February 11 allows us to honor women’s significant achievements in science and place a much-needed focus on girls entering Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) careers. As the fastest-growing segment of jobs with employers finding it hard to find available talent, STEM needs women. Have some fun today by learning about women charting their course as techie trailblazers and by supporting young women to pursue their passions in STEM.
HISTORY OF INTERNATIONAL DAY OF WOMEN AND GIRLS IN SCIENCE Over the past two decades, women have been more likely to receive an undergraduate degree than their male counterparts. Despite this overall accomplishment, women earn degrees in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) at half the rate of men. This variance caught the attention of the United Nations and, in 2015, they proclaimed February 11 of each year to be observed as International Day of Women and Girls in Science.
Women’s ability to enter STEM fields offers them a wider variety of employment opportunities with higher pay than what is found in many other fields. The demand for STEM skills around the world continues to grow and it is up to us to ensure women and girls do not miss out.
This day allows us to recognize the role women and girls already play in science, promote the idea of STEM careers to future generations of women, and educate men on their role in encouraging and mentoring women and girls in schools and the workplace to pursue their technical and scientific passions.
Now is the time to bring women into their full potential within these fields and to see how their contributions can impact the world.

Don't Cry Over Spilled Milk Day – February 11, 2022~U.S.
If you think a day on the calendar dedicated to not crying over spilled milk sounds silly … so do we … yet, here it is, right on our calendar every February 11 — Don’t Cry Over Spilled Milk Day. Are you wondering who even cries over spilled milk, except maybe little tykes? Could you be crying over spilled milk and don’t even know it?
HISTORY OF DON'T CRY OVER SPILLED MILK DAY “Don’t cry over spilled milk” is the contemporary iteration of the idiom, “No weeping for shed milk,” originally published in 1659 in “Paramoigraphy”— a book of proverbs by Welsh historian and author James Howell. Proverbs are wise sayings offering sage advice and moral guidance for living life well, but not all idioms are proverbs. An example of another idiom is, “Feeling under the weather,” which means feeling unwell.
We will never know just how many glasses of milk James Howell saw spilled out and cried over before he was inspired to use all those messy little incidents to pen his sage advice. But we can guess it was often enough for him to observe that nothing is ever gained by fretting and worrying over trivial incidents like spilling a glass of milk and the small problems that inevitably happen just in the course of each day. Worrying and regrets don’t change the fact that something happened; looking back and feeling sad, depressed, or upset can never change anything. The best thing to do when we spill milk or make messes in our lives is to clean up the mess right away, the best we can, and then not waste time dwelling on them or worrying about them.
By the year 1738, Howell’s idiom had evolved, as language does, and was rephrased as, “’Tis a folly to cry for spilled milk,” in a witty essay on manners and making small talk, titled, “Polite Conversation” by Irish author, satirist, and clergyman Jonathan Swift. Today, we say “Don’t cry over spilled milk.” Although the words and syntaxes have changed over centuries and generations, Howell’s sage advice has not only stood the test of time, but it may be more relevant today than when it was first published more than 300 years ago.
Continuing to hold onto the past doesn’t change anything about the past. But many of us do just that, refusing to let go and let live and get on with life after making a mess of some aspect of it. So maybe a Don’t Cry Over Spilled Milk Day on the calendar isn’t so silly after all. We can all use a reminder to pause and reflect on how well we are adjusting and adapting to life’s little interruptions and make sure we are not carrying any regrets as baggage along our way.

National Inventors' Day – February 11, 2022~U.S.
It’s February 11, and you know what that means! No? Well, it’s National Inventors’ Day, and we should all be celebrating! Without our inventors, where might we be? Humanity’s inventiveness is what sets us apart from every other species on this planet, and it’s through our inventions that we can see our own progress as a species. We’ve come a long way since the invention of the wheel, and that’s worth celebrating. Here’s to National Inventors’ Day.

National Foundation Day – February 11, 2022~Japan
National Foundation Day is celebrated on February 11 annually. This holiday acts as a reminder for the Japanese to commemorate the establishment of Japan by Emperor Jimmu in 660 B.C. National Foundation Day, also known as Kenkoku Kinen No Hi, is the perfect opportunity to look back on the difficulties bore by the forefathers for the foundation of the country. This holiday allows us to nourish our love for the country and bring out our patriotic spirit.
HISTORY OF NATIONAL FOUNDATION DAY National Foundation Day celebrates the ascension of Emperor Jimmu to the throne in 660 B.C., thus laying the foundations of Japan. Jimmu, born in Miyazaki Prefecture on the island of Kyushu, was a descendent of the sun goddess, the Amaterasu. He was known as one of the bravest emperors of that time. Jimmu initiated war with almost every tribe of that time and won each war. After the continuous defeat of various clans, Jimmu united the nation of Japan. The “Kojiki” contains the tale of the legacy of Emperor Jimmu.
Initially, National Foundation Day was celebrated along with New Year but the dates moved around a little when Japan shifted from a lunar calendar to a Gregorian calendar in 1873 under Meiji rule. Thus, the day moved forward to February 11th.
Before the Second World War, the day was celebrated with a lot of vigor and patriotism. Various official ceremonies, parades, and fireworks were held throughout Japan. However, the holiday was eradicated for various reasons. After a lot of surveys, public demands, amendments, and bills the holiday was once again established but never had the significance it had in the past. Only a few ceremonies are held in the country but there is no sign of the enthusiasm they once had.

Safety Pup Day – February 12, 2022~U.S.
Your kids can learn all about safety precautions on Safety Pup Day on February 12. Our furry puppet friends have been a guiding force to our kids since 1985. Introduced by the National Child Safety Council (N.C.S.C.), it provides a fun, entertaining way to teach kids about necessary precautions to keep them safe.
HISTORY OF SAFETY PUP DAY If you don’t already know, Safetypup® is the character channeled in puppets, on milk cartons, and mascots used to impart safety knowledge into the hearts of our little ones. Children are prone to have very short attention spans and always require the quickest, most interesting way to absorb necessary information — Safetypup® provides that.
Created by N.C.S.C.’s Research & Development Department in 1985 and presented to the world on February 12 of the same year. Safetypup® makes learning about safety issues fun, entertaining, and non-threatening. Safetypup® has become familiar to hundreds of thousands of children from all over the country who view it as a trusted friend.
Safetypup® appears on milk cartons, joins the ranks of many law enforcement agencies throughout the nation, and even walks among us in the form of costumes and mascots. The campaign was created by N.C.S.C. and has been used by law enforcement agencies especially to impart safety knowledge and tips to our children.
It was first introduced at a news conference in Washington, D.C., by award-winning actress Rita Moreno who served as a spokeswoman. Since then, Safetypup® has been distributed in billions to school lunchrooms and homes across the country on milk cartons with educational safety tips. Their puppet versions have been used for presentations by law enforcement officers to children in hundreds of schools and used by teachers for safety awareness and prevention education programs and materials. The Safetypup® mascot costume includes a cape, pants, shirt, paw spats, and dog paw gloves.

Union Day – February 12, 2022~Myanmar
Union Day in Myanmar on 12 February is a national holiday. The holiday commemorates the signing and passage of the Panglong Agreement, which united Burma in 1947. In theory, the agreement recognized total freedom in governance for the Frontier Areas and envisaged the Constituent Assembly creating a Kachin State.
HISTORY OF UNION DAY Union Day commemorates the 1947 Panglong Conference, which took place in the months preceding the country’s independence from the British. According to accounts, the conference in the hill town of Panglong was crucial in bringing the country’s varied multi-ethnic people together to form a cohesive and eventually sovereign nation.
Myanmar (formerly known as Burma) came under British administration in 1886, but the British drew a distinction between how central Burma was governed and how various ethnic groups in the surrounding areas were governed.
Following the end of WWII, General Aung San, the interim Burmese government’s leader, convened at Panglong with leaders from the Shan states, the Kachin hills, and the Chin hills to discuss Burma’s future. They came to an agreement on February 12, 1947, which was signed and passed. The agreement reunited Burma and required that the British administration grant all of Burma its freedom.
The Panglong Agreement was signed by Aung San, Myanmar’s national hero and interim president, as well as a few ethnic minority leaders who agreed to join the Union of Burma in return for federal authority.
The agreement was a watershed moment in Myanmar’s history since it paved the way for Burma’s independence in January 1948. The agreement also gave ethnic leaders the option of seceding from the union if they were unhappy with the new nation.
Aung San, on the other hand, did not live to see Burma attain independence. He was killed on July 19, 1947, just months before the country gained independence. Then, in 1962, a military coup ushered in nearly half a century of army dictatorship. Burma was renamed Myanmar by the military government in 1989.

National Freedom to Marry Day – February 12, 2022~U.S.
The liberty to marry someone of the same sex is celebrated on National Freedom to Marry Day on February 12. Since 1999, this unofficial holiday has been fighting for love and promoting equal rights to marriage for the LGBTQ community. The cause has come a long way, but the issue of normalizing same-sex marriage is still not over. Even though more and more countries are now allowing a modified form of marriage between couples of the same sex, an absolute marital union between all LGBTQ couples should be completely acceptable.
HISTORY OF NATIONAL FREEDOM TO MARRY DAY Since 1999, National Freedom to Marry Day is celebrated annually on February 12 to promote marriage between people of the same sex. The initiative for this holiday was taken by a Washington, D.C.-based gay rights advocacy law firm, Lambda Legal.
But the fight for allowing marriage between two people of the same sex has continued for decades before this holiday’s inception. Evan Wolfson, the founder of a group named Freedom to Marry, has been advocating the legal case for same-sex marriage for over 20 years now. During his years as a student at Harvard Law School, he wrote a paper in 1983 that is now considered to be the blueprint for the Freedom to Marry movement.
The most successful National Freedom to Marry Day was in 2004 when marriage licenses were issued to same-sex couples by the City and County of San Francisco on the orders of the mayor of San Francisco, Gavin Newsom. On February 10, a directive to the clerk’s office started to make the necessary changes on the “forms and documents used to apply for and issue marriage licenses […] in order to provide [them] on a nondiscriminatory basis.”
The holiday also falls two days before Valentine’s Day, so many LGBTQ people get married on National Freedom to Marry Day to celebrate their love. Knots are tied around trees, signs, or just about anywhere else, to signify ‘tying the knot.’

National Plum Pudding Day – February 12, 2022~U.S.
Did you know plum pudding contains no plums? That’s because raisins were often called “plums” in 17th century Great Britain. So what does this a traditional plum or Christmas pudding actually contain? This steamed or boiled concoction features nutmeg, raisins, nuts, apples, cinnamon, and dates. Traditionally served during the holidays, this often overlooked dish gets a second chance to impress on February 12, which is known as National Plum Pudding Day.

Darwin Day – February 12, 2022~World
Whether you’re a seasoned scientist who doesn’t mind getting your hands dirty or the thought of math and dissection makes you blanch, on Darwin Day on February 12 we celebrate Charles Darwin’s work and science in general. Take the extra time to learn about his experiments, findings, and accomplishments, and reflect on how they still affect us today. The discovery of evolutionary creation has led scientists across multiple fields to make life-altering and life-saving discoveries about our species and how we originated. There’s a lot to be grateful about for Darwin and his research!
HISTORY OF DARWIN DAY Charles Darwin, the man who would come to be known as the father of natural selection, was born on February 12, 1809, the fifth of six children in a wealthy English . His father was a doctor, and his grandfathers were naturalists who laid the groundwork for the discoveries that Charles would go on to make. In 1825, Charles, who had been helping his father to care for the poor and sick in Shropshire, left for medical school. He found it dull and his studies lacked effort. It wasn’t long until his father sent him to Christ’s College in Cambridge to become an Anglican parson.
Though he was on a religious course of study, Darwin found himself drawn to natural sciences. A friend at the time got him interested in beetle collecting and he became acquainted with other parson naturalists who spurred his interest even more. He positioned himself to join his professor on a trip to the tropics to study natural history.
After his return, Darwin received an offer to serve as a naturalist on an expedition that headed down the coast of South America. The ship was the HMS Beagle, of which the captain was Robert FitzRoy. Darwin set out on his voyage in 1931 and spent five years aboard this ship. Across South America, Darwin was exposed to a wealth of new geology, anthropology, zoology, and botany. He carefully collected samples of fossils, rocks, plants, and bugs to bring back to England. Darwin and FitzRoy both kept journals of the trip, which are impactful documents, today.
Darwin’s theories of evolution were already percolating as the HMS Beagle returned to England. It was especially the finches in the Galapagos Islands that illustrated his theories. He madly rewrote his journals from the trip to gain a better understanding, read the work of Malthus, and conducted experiments with plants to test his theories. During this time of overworking, he got married but also developed a chronic illness.
Finally, Darwin published “On the Origin of Species,” a book that described the case for natural selection, in 1859. While the book was unexpectedly popular, there was pushback from the church, which taught divine creation as the source of life. He continued to work and publish on evolution and selection for the next 22 years of his life. He would eventually die of heart disease in 1882, which likely originated from the chronic Chagas’ disease he suffered from.

Employee Legal Awareness Day – February 13, 2022~International
Employee Legal Awareness Day is on February 13, and it is all about your rights as an employee. An Australian lawyer named Paul Brennan established this day to create awareness of the legal problems to the employees and small businesses and reduce the risk of them through legal education. The day encourages all employees to be aware of their employment rights, as well as company policies provided in your employer’s handbook.
HISTORY OF EMPLOYEE LEGAL AWARENESS DAY Employment or labor laws mediate the relationship between the employer, employee, and the union. Both employees and employers are encouraged to know and understand these laws to avoid breaching legal rights.
Labor laws began with the need to want to abolish child labor in the late 1700s. In 1784, an outbreak of fever in Cotton Mills near Manchester raised concerns against child labor dangerous work conditions. A local inquiry was instituted by the justices of the peace for Lancashire, and the result recommended the limitation of children’s working hours.
In 1802, the first major step towards the protection of labor was taken with the Health and Morals of Apprentices Act. It limited working hours to twelve a day and abolished night work, requiring the provision of a basic level of education for all apprentices, as well as adequate sleeping accommodation and clothing. The Cotton Mills and Factories Act 1819 was the outcome of the efforts of the industrialist Robert Owen and prohibited child labor under nine years of age and limited the working hours to twelve.
In 1833, the Factories Act was put in place, which limited the employment of children under eighteen years of age, prohibiting all night work and provided for inspectors to enforce the law. The campaign finally led to the passage of the Factory Act in 1847, which restricted the working hours of women and children in British factories to effectively 10 hours per day.
From the 19th century, attention was paid to the workforce in general, and not just limited to child labor. A series of further Acts, in 1860 and 1872, extended the legal provisions and strengthened safety provisions, and led to the Coal Mines Act of 1872, which extended the legislation to similar industries.

World Radio Day – February 13, 2022~World
Join in the worldwide events for World Radio Day on February 13 and find out how radio is still changing lives across the globe. World Radio Day was first proposed by Spain in September 2010. With backing from broadcasting associations around the world, it was unanimously accepted by the UNESCO Member States in November 2011. The cool thing about radio is it’s still relevant and important in our daily lives. During those long drives for vacation or maybe to work, the radio is still with us, keeping us singing and keeping us informed. It’s like a great friend and neighbor, one who’s always there and never lets you down —except radio will never borrow your weed whacker and forget to return it.
HISTORY OF WORLD RADIO DAY The radio is a medium that has sustained its usage over time. It is a platform for providing information, educating people, allowing expression across cultures, and of course, playing all our favorite music. No matter how advanced technology becomes, radio is an irreplaceable medium, especially during the occurrence of natural or man-made disasters.
Many people in history have contributed to perfecting radio waves and frequencies, but it was Italian inventor Guglielmo Marconi who proved the feasibility of communication over the radio. He sent and received a telegram over the first radio signal in history from Italy in 1895. The first radio station in America was established in Pittsburgh in 1919, and the FM radio debuted in 1939. Broadcasting over radio went digital in 1994, when radio streaming started via the internet. This was accompanied by the first internet-only 24-hour radio station.
In 2011, at the 36th session of UNESCO’s General Conference, February 13 was proclaimed as World Radio Day. This date was chosen by UNESCO’s director general as it was the anniversary date of the United Nations international broadcasting service, which was created on February 13, 1946.
Without using any expensive content or videography, radio is the only broadcast medium today that delivers entertainment, local news, sports updates, discussions, great music, and is an effective way for marketing. Tune in to your favorite radio station today and enjoy!

World Marriage Day – February 13, 2022~International
World Marriage Day is celebrated every year on the second Sunday in February, sometimes coinciding with St. Valentine’s Day. This year, it takes place on February 13. World Marriage Day officially began in 1983 in the United States of America. Popularized by the Catholic Church, the purpose of World Marriage Day is to emphasize the beauty of marriage and to honor husbands and wives for their faithfulness and sacrifices.
HISTORY OF WORLD MARRIAGE DAY World Marriage Day is an offshoot of Worldwide Marriage Encounter, an apostolate with the mission to help couples enjoy blissful and happy marriages. At its core, the day celebrates the husband and wife as the foundation of the and sees the as the basic unit of society. Further, World Marriage Day honors the beauty of nuptial faithfulness, devotion, sacrifice, commitment, and joy.
World Marriage Day traces its origin to 1981 when married couples in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, asked the mayor of the city, the governor of the State, and the Bishop of the church to proclaim February 14 (St. Valentine’s Day) as We Believe in Marriage Day. Following the success of the event, the idea of celebrating the day was subsequently presented to and adopted by the National Leadership of Worldwide Marriage Encounter.
The following year — in 1982 — 43 governors in the U.S. approved and officially announced the day as We Believe in Marriage Day. Eventually, some U.S. military bases in many foreign countries joined in the celebrations. In 1983, the day witnessed two major changes: its name was changed to World Marriage Day and it was designated to be celebrated on the second Sunday in February annually. A decade later — in 1993 — Saint Pope John Paul II approved and imparted his Apostolic Blessings on World Marriage Day. In the Catholic church, World Marriage Week still takes place each year from February 7 — February 14.
To date, World Marriage Day is celebrated every second Sunday of February in many countries around the world, especially in the Catholic church. Sometimes, like its maiden edition, the day still falls on February 14, coinciding with Valentine’s Day.

National Internet Friends Day – February 13, 2022~U.S.
National Internet Friends Day is celebrated on February 13 every year and celebrates internet friendships. Internet friendships have become an important source of interaction for children and adults around the world as life gets busier.
Internet friendships have become a natural extension of people’s need for connections. While a lot of people have managed to make friends with their mutuals on social media sites, it is frequently in smaller groups like group chats, discord servers, and dashboards that people make friends.
HISTORY OF NATIONAL INTERNET FRIENDS DAY National Internet Friends Day celebrates the importance and value of online friendships. These friendships are frequently dismissed as being less valuable than in-person friendships.
Online relationships are similar to and just as important as in-person relationships. These relationships last just as long as friendships made offline.
Much like in-person relationships, online friendships are built by spending time together and doing things that everyone can bond over. People mostly start talking to each other online based on common interests. These conversations may wane over time if the people find that they have nothing else in common. Sometimes the conversations continue, and people build relationships that can last for years.
Internet friendships can also refer to friendships that started in person but have to be maintained online because someone had to relocate. In this fast-changing world, where people relocate or travel, online friendships are the norm. Staying connected online allows people to maintain a connection with friends that they cannot see often.
The suspicions around internet friendships are due to internet predators that have bad intentions. These predators attempt to groom young women and men. This is why extra care needs to be taken with online friendships.
Having supervised video calls ensures online safety. Other precautionary measures involve not sharing personal information like full names and addresses with a stranger online.

Galentine's Day – February 13, 2022~U.S.
February truly is the month of love and Galentine’s Day on February 13 fits right in. We’re quick to shower our significant others with gifts and treats on February 14, but the day prior was designed to celebrate other equally important relationships in our lives: our girlfriends! Galentine’s Day is a time to bring together the ladies in your life you love most.
WHEN IS GALENTINE'S DAY 2022? The female friendships we so heavily rely on are celebrated each year on Galentine’s Day on February 13. Originating from the popular TV show ‘Parks and Recreation,’ the holiday is all about declaring love and affection to the girls who make up our support system. Go Girl Power!
HISTORY OF GALENTINE'S DAY Galentine’s Day was the creation of the beloved fictional deputy director of Parks and Recreation in Pawnee, Indiana, Leslie Knope. The show’s writers centered the 16th episode of the second season of Parks and Recreation around Leslie’s favorite February tradition, Galentine’s Day. Over a brunch of waffles and excessive gift-giving, Leslie celebrates the joy of female friendship with close friends and co-workers.
What was previously an unknown and unofficial holiday immediately skyrocketed in popularity, so much so that businesses have created Galentine’s Day promotions in honor of the celebration. Special happy hours, group spa discounts, and brunch deals are popular ways to honor the occasion, as the once fictional holiday filled a void in the Valentine’s Day market that left single women feeling alienated by the pomp and circumstance of the lover’s holiday.
The holiday that Knope invented bares striking similarities to her character — over-the-top generosity and impassioned sincerity. Galentine’s Day is to Valentine’s Day what Friendsgiving is to Thanksgiving: a chance to recognize the impact that our friends have on our lives and thank them for their steadfast loyalty, love, and laughter.
We could go on, but we think Leslie explains Galentine’s Day best: “Every February 13, my ladyfriends and I leave our husbands and our boyfriends at home, and we just come and kick it, breakfast-style. Ladies celebrating ladies. It’s like Lilith Fair, minus the angst. Plus frittatas.”

Mother's Day Norway – February 13, 2022~Norway
In Norway, Mother’s Day, or Morsdag, is celebrated on the second Sunday in February and takes place on February 13 this year. It’s a special national day to honor mothers and mother figures. Did you know the holiday, called ‘Morsdag’ by locals, has been observed for over 100 years in the country? And most businesses are closed on that day because it always falls on a Sunday!
HISTORY OF MOTHER'S DAY NORWAY Known as one of the most popular holidays around the world, Mother’s Day is celebrated in more than 50 countries across the globe. Although Mother’s Day is not recognized as a public holiday in the United States, it’s a legal national holiday observed on the second Sunday in May. Not all countries celebrate Mother’s Day on the same day of the year, however. Australia, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Italy, Switzerland, and Turkey celebrate Mother’s Day on the second Sunday of May. Mexico and some other countries in Latin America celebrate Mother’s Day annually on May 10. In Thailand, Mother’s Day falls on August 12, which is the birthday of the current Queen.
The earliest Mother’s Day could be traced to ancient Greece, where Greeks held festivities to honor Rhea, who was renowned as the mother of the gods. In Norway, Mother’s Day, or Morsdag, is celebrated on the second Sunday in February, as a day to appreciate and honor mothers and mother figures. The first Mother’s Day in Norway was on February 9, 1919, celebrated in a Methodist Church in Bergen. The celebration was initially organized by religious institutions, until two women — Karen Platou, a businesswoman and politician, and Dorothea Schjodager, a social worker, teacher, and women’s rights activist — established the day as an annual holiday in Norway. Thanks to non-government organizations, entrepreneurs, and mass media who supported the national holiday, these women’s idea of Mother’s Day subsequently became a national observance.
On this day in Norway, mothers often receive presents, and some also get breakfast in bed with handcrafted items and greeting cards, courtesy of their children. Sometimes when the day coincides with Fastelavn, Carnival day, locals celebrate with ‘Fastelavenboller,’ a special type of bun.

International Natural Day – February 13, 2022~International
International Natural Day is celebrated every year on February 13, a day before Valentine’s Day to remind you to love yourself without seeking affirmation from anybody else. Also called International Day of Self-love, it is celebrated to dilute the emphasis on conformance to society’s expectations. It is a day to remind everyone that you ought to love yourself because you are beautiful in your very own unique way. So, on this Day, clap your hands and raise a toast for the most important and beautiful person in your life — you.
HISTORY OF INTERNATIONAL NATURAL DAY Often, we feel the pressure of conforming to the popular or common notion of beauty to earn the appreciation, love, and approval of people around us. Culturally, we attach much importance to getting love from others, forgetting that our most important relationship is with ourselves. If we don’t love ourselves, nobody will find us worthy of being loved. If we keep denigrating ourselves, we may end up sabotaging our lives and relationships. Apart from toxic relationships, it could result in substance abuse, self-deprecatory behavior, workaholism, extreme guilt, and low self-esteem.
Also called International Day of Self-love, International Natural Day is celebrated on February 13 every year to encourage individuals with insecurities and uncertainties to shed their self-doubts and celebrate themselves unconditionally. Sanah Jivani, founder and C.E.O. of Love Your Natural Self Foundation, spurred on by a personal event, created the day and her foundation.
In grade seven, Jivani was horrified when one morning, she found almost all her hair on her pillow. A condition called Alopecia Universalis resulted in her losing all her hair. She lost all her hair and, with it, her self-esteem. Her appearance provoked ridicule and bullying from people around her. It fed her insecurities and sent her on a spiraling cycle of self-hatred. Jivani realized that demonizing herself was not helping and started to repair her self-image by redefining her parameters of beauty. She kept reminding herself that she was beautiful in her own way, for which she did not need any confirmation from society.
International Natural Day is the next stride in Jivani’s journey to help others acknowledge their natural beauty. The day urges you to strengthen your self-esteem and acknowledge the innate beauty within and around you.

International Condom Day – February 13, 2022~International
International Condom Day is celebrated on February 13 every year, one day before Valentine’s Day. The day is a fun, tongue-in-cheek way of reminding people to practice safety when being intimate with their partners. The day was set up as a way to remind people that condoms are one of the best ways to protect themselves not only from unwanted pregnancies but Sexually Transmitted Diseases (S.T.D.s) as well. There are variations of the condom so that they can be used by everyone regardless of their gender. Proper usage reduces the risk of diseases like gonorrhea, chlamydia, and HIV/AIDS, among others.
HISTORY OF INTERNATIONAL CONDOM DAY International Condom Day is celebrated on February 13 every year. The holiday is celebrated before Valentine’s Day in an effort to remind people that the condom is one of the best and most convenient ways of preventing pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases.
Condoms function by forming a physical barrier that prevents ejaculated semen from the penetrating partner from entering the body of the penetrated partner.
Modern condoms are primarily made of latex, especially the ones for men. However, non-latex condoms made of polyurethane also exist. These can be used by men suffering from latex allergies. Condoms designed to be used by women also exist, and these are primarily made of polyurethane.
Male condoms are easily available, affordable, and easy to use. This makes them the most commonly used method of contraception after female sterilization.
Used correctly, condoms prevent about 98% of pregnancies. However, since the majority of people do not use condoms properly, this drops the pregnancy prevention rate to about 82 — 90% of pregnancies.
Condoms are also highly recommended to reduce the transmission of S.T.D.s. It has contributed significantly to the reduction of the infection rate for S.T.D.s like AIDS, genital herpes, chlamydia, and gonorrhea, which are the most common of the S.T.D.s.
Condoms are not perfect but the greatest risk that results in infections is inconsistent usage of condoms.

Get a Different Name Day – February 13, 2022~U.S.
Get a Different Name Day is on February 13 and this is a day when the famous adage “What’s in a name?” matters. When we are born, our parents enthusiastically give us names that they most connect with. However many times we get an urge to change our name, this day is the perfect opportunity to do just that. You can actually change your legal name if it’s been on the cards or, if you don’t want to, you can just do it for fun on all your social media accounts for the day or tell your friends and that you won’t respond to any other name than your new chosen one for the day.
HISTORY OF GET A DIFFERENT NAME DAY Get a Different Name Day was created by Ruth and Tom Roy as a fun holiday. They once said that “On this day, we may change our names to whatever we wish and have the right to expect colleagues, , and friends to so address us.”
Getting a different name has had its own history and culture throughout the years. It dates back thousands of years ago to when Abraham, a prominent figure in three different major world religions changed his name from ‘Abram,’ which means “exalted father”, to ‘Abraham,’ which means ‘multitude.’ His wife also followed suit by changing her name from Sarai to Sarah. Many name changes are believed to have happened after a life-altering moment.
In many parts of the world, it is customary to change your name on momentous occasions in life. For instance, women typically changed their last names after marriage, however, in current times, many either retain their maiden name or adopt a double-barrel surname with their maiden name and their husband’s surname. A name change can also help people adopt a new identity, especially for some who might have a negative association with their existing name or who are seeking emancipation.
Name-changing not only applies to people but also countries throughout history. Some notable changes include Holland becoming the Netherlands, ancient Ceylon became modern-day Sri Lanka, the Republic of Macedonia became the Republic of North Macedonia, and Czechoslovakia, which became the Czech Republic after splitting up with Slovakia, to name a few.

National Apology Day – February 13, 2022~Australia
National Apology Day in Australia is observed on February 13 every year in Australia. It is a national day commemorating the first-ever national apology made by Prime Minister Kevin Rudd in 2008 to initialize the Australian federal government’s rehabilitation, justice, and reconciliation agenda for the Indigenous Aborigines and Torres Strait Islanders, and the tens of thousands of Aboriginal children who were forcibly removed from their families during Australia’s assimilation era.
HISTORY OF NATIONAL APOLOGY DAY National Apology Day remembers the official apology to the children and families traumatized by past forced child removal and assimilation government policies in 20th century Australia. Although somewhat related, this annual commemoration is quite different from the National Sorry Day, or the National Day of Healing, which is a national event that has been held every year in Australia on May 26 since 1998. National Sorry Day marks the initial tabling of the Bringing Them Home report in the Australian Parliament. The report was the result of a 1995 inquiry by the Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission into government policies and practices between 1910 and the 1970s, which forcefully separated many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children from their families, to assimilate them into white Australian culture.
The affected children, known as the ‘Stolen Generations’ — estimated to be 10% to 33% of all Indigenous children between 1910 and the 1970s — suffered significant abuse and trauma, as they had to live under harsh conditions and abusive treatment, and were compelled to reject their Indigenous heritage. Until today, many victims are still coming to terms with the trauma they experienced. The ‘Bringing Them Home’ report also made actionable recommendations for addressing past wrongs, including the issuance of formal apologies by state and federal governments, and the provision of funding to rehabilitate the victims.
While John Howard, the Prime Minister at the time, declined to apologize, his successor Prime Minister, Kevin Rudd, subsequently issued a formal public apology on February 13, 2008, on behalf of the federal government for the policies which inflicted grief, suffering, and loss on the Stolen Generations. Both houses of parliament unanimously adopted the apology as a motion, and thousands of Australians who gathered in public spaces to hear the apology across the country reacted with cheers and tears.

Super Bowl Sunday – February 13, 2022~U.S.
On the first Sunday in February (February 13), America’s love affair with football springs into full bloom. After 17 hard-fought matches spanning 18 weeks, the two best football teams in the NFL battle their way to a world championship in the grandest TV spectacle in America.
But over the past 51 years, the Super Bowl has evolved into much more than a championship football game. It is a cultural phenomenon that nearly a third of Americans anticipate the whole year round, each for his or her own reasons: the spicy chicken wings, the hearty chili, the ice cold beer, the rowdy friends, the big-budget commercials, the spectacular halftime show, and last but not least, the football. So crack open a cold one, settle down on the couch, and flip on the TV—it’s Super Bowl Sunday!
HISTORY OF SUPER BOWL SUNDAY The NFL was officially created in 1920, but it wasn’t until more than 45 years later that the first Super Bowl happened. In 1960, the request of several businessmen who wished to own their own football franchises was denied by the NFL. They decided to create their own alternative league called the American Football League (AFL). For many years, there was competition and rivalry between the NFL and AFL – for players, fans, and funding. Finally, the owners reached an agreement in 1966 to merge the two leagues by 1970.
The Super Bowl grew out of this merger but didn’t have this name, to begin with. The game was originally known as the ‘AFL-NFL World Championship Game,’ which sounded quite dull. So even though the merger was not to be in place until 1970, an end of season championship game – the first Super Bowl, was played on January 15, 1967, at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. You’d think that the first Super Bowl would have been an instant sell-out, but it was not. The game was broadcast on a couple of television networks and ended with the NFL’s Green Bay Packers defeating the AFL’s Kansas City Chiefs by 35-10.
The term ‘Super Bowl’ was coined by Lamar Hunt – the owner of the AFL Kansas City Chiefs, to refer to the championship game and from there it caught on. After the two leagues merged into one big NFL, it was split into two conferences: The National Football Conference (NFC) and the American Football Conference (AFC). Winners of each play against each other in the Super Bowl.
Super Bowl Sunday – the day of the big Super Bowl game, has become a part of American tradition with huge watch parties hosted in taverns, restaurants, and homes throughout the nation. There is extensive media hype, wagers and bets, and exciting build up a week prior to the game. The host city where the game is played has festival vibes and anticipation for the actual game is increased with the elaborate halftime entertainment performances and ceremonies.
Even though the first Super Bowl wasn’t a huge success, every game has been sold out since then and there has hardly ever been a significant decrease in TV ratings. In fact, the 2015 Super Bowl became one of history’s highest-rated sporting events. Commercial slots during the game are the most expensive, with 30-second advertisements costing millions of dollars. With celebrity endorsements and the use of advanced technology, commercials aim to leave a lasting impression on the massive Super Bowl audience. This is probably one of the few times when interest in the commercials is parallel to that of the actual show itself.
