World Whale Day – February 20, 2022~International
World Whale Day is celebrated every year on the third Sunday in February and this year, it takes place on February 20. This day seeks to appreciate these aquatic creatures that are an important part of the ecosystem. It also goes beyond that and draws attention to the man-made challenges that have erupted making marine life difficult. This is due to dumping waste in our oceans, and climate change, etc..
HISTORY OF WORLD WHALE DAY Our big blue oceans are home to some of the most fascinating creatures, and for centuries they have been hunted for varying reasons. Now they face another challenge, which is the loss of habitat.
To this effect, in the year 1980, World Whale Day began in Maui, Hawaii, to honor the humpback whales, which used to swim off the coast of the tropical island. This day was born out of an idea by Greg Kauffman, the founder of the Pacific Whale Foundation. He wanted to raise awareness about the threat of extinction faced by humpback whales.
Since then, whales have been the main highlight of the Maui Whale Festival. This free event sees crowds flocking there to enjoy a parade that includes floats and costumed characters. The festival even sees children’s events and music from Hawaiian and international stars.
What started with raising awareness for humpback whales in Hawaii has gone beyond that now. It also seeks to promote awareness of the oceans that are not as healthy as they once used to be. There needs to be a serious call to action to make the homes of whales a safe place for them to live.
Whales are truly beautiful. The blue whale grows to 98 feet in length and is the largest whale on Earth. The smallest whale, the toothed dwarf sperm whale, grows between six feet, seven inches and eight feet, 10 inches.
Thus on this day, we must all take cognizance of this rising concern and take collection action to preserve their natural habitat.

World Day of Social Justice – February 20, 2022~International
World Day of Social Justice is observed annually on February 20. Internationally, the world is plagued with unfortunate issues that prohibit millions of individuals from living a fair life. Many of the world’s population, through no fault of their own, are deprived of basic facilities, such as homes, jobs, healthcare, education, nutrition, and more.
It must be the responsibility of the privileged to ensure that we can create a just world where social justice is a norm.
HISTORY OF WORLD DAY OF SOCIAL JUSTICE The world is facing significant issues including serious financial crises, poverty, exclusion among societies, discrimination, lack of access to facilities, and unemployment, that prohibit full participation in the global economy for developing countries. Back in 1995, Copenhagen, Denmark, hosted the World Summit for Social Development. This resulted in the Copenhagen Declaration and Programme of Action. Over 100 political leaders took a pledge to alleviate poverty, work towards full employment and create stable, safe, and just societies. They also decided that they needed to put people at the center of the development plans.
In 2005 in New York, the U.N.’s member states reviewed the Copenhagen Declaration and Programme of Action at a session of the Commission for Social Development. They agreed to commit to advancing social development. Two years later on November 26, 2007, the United Nations General Assembly declared that starting from the sixty-third session of the General Assembly, February 20 will be celebrated annually as the World Day of Social Justice. On June 10, 2008, The International Labour Organization adopted the I.L.O. Declaration on Social Justice for a Fair Globalization.
Organizations across the world including the United Nations and the International Labour Office, make statements on the importance of social justice for people. Organizations also prepare and present plans for tackling issues and promoting social justice. Trade unions also participate and do their bit in marking this day. The Russian General Confederation of Trade Unions has in fact declared the common slogan as ‘Social Justice and Decent Life for All!’

No Politics Day – February 20, 2022~U.S.
For all those who want a break from the talk about elections and even speeches from the newly elected, No Politics Day on February 20 is just your kind of celebration. This event used to be observed on February 1 until 2020. The celebrations are meant to help people move away from the constant political talk, even if only for a day. This event makes a refreshing statement and aims to bring people of opposing views together in peace, laughter, and fun.
HISTORY OF NO POLITICS DAY The profession itself is eons old and is a vital and noble activity. Even Aristotle agreed — he viewed ethics and politics as being intrinsically linked, and thought that moral education was the main purpose of the political community. The Founding Fathers themselves were many amazing things, including politicians, and this profession integrated thousands of immigrants and dreamer-seekers into the very fabric of American society.
Even so, politics and politicians are rarely regarded in a positive light by people across the country. This is not limited to the U.S.; the sheen of this career is waning.
People believe that governments are unresponsive to their problems, and many more think politicians only cater to giant corporations and the like. Youth across America state they think they have no political power whatsoever and cannot influence politicians’ decisions.
It was perhaps for this reason that this day was founded and established by Bob Matthews from Rochester, New York. Although this day remains unofficial, the celebration and sentiment behind this event remain.

National Muffin Day – February 20, 2022~U.S.
Can you think of something more universally loved than muffins? The beloved muffin deserves a day of its own, and for that, we have February 20. It’s National Muffin Day! English muffins have been whipped up in kitchens as far back as a thousand years ago in Wales, and American style muffins have been around since the 18th century. Muffins are a great breakfast on the run, a perfect substitute for toast during brunch, and an easy treat to make and give as a gift. How are you going to celebrate National Muffin Day? Hopefully by eating a lot of muffins, but we have a few other ideas for toasting this spectacular baked good.

National Comfy Day – February 20, 2022~U.S.
This National Comfy Day on February 20, you have been granted permission to get as comfortable as you please! This means you get to wear comfy clothes, be a complete mess, eat comfort food, and embark on any activity that allows you to be cozy and lazy. All you have to do is find your favorite spot in your abode and relax for the next 24-hours. And yes, this is a must for everyone who usually has a super busy work schedule. Celebrate the day by giving yourself a time out and getting comfortable in your skin! Happy National Comfy Day!
HISTORY OF NATIONAL COMFY DAY While National Comfy Day may seem like an occasion where you are simply supposed to get comfortable, the history behind it is more intriguing than it may appear. The day was founded by The Comfy Bros, the team behind ‘The Comfy’. For those who may not know, this is one of the world’s first wearable blankets that have become a hit. ‘The Comfy’ was invented in 2017 by Michael and Brian Speciale. “How?” you ask.
The story is simple yet super sweet at the same time. One chilly day, Michael woke up to see his nephew on the couch with a sherpa blanket behind him. His arms and knees on the other hand were pulled into an old sweatshirt. This is when the duo began brainstorming on ways they could make an outfit that was a comfortable mixture of a blanket and a shirt. and voila, ‘The Comfy’ was created.
Of course, it took a lot of experimentation and prototypes to finally formulate a design and texture that was wearable. However, once the idea became a reality, the partners set out to make their dream a hit for the masses. The first step they took was to audition to be on “Shark Tank” in Denver. It wasn’t long before their comfy outfit became a hit and they were spotted advertising their wearable blanket to clients. They finally closed a deal with Barbara Corcoran, and ‘The Comfy’ went on to become a super famous product. Today, the product is available in over 100 countries.

National Handcuff Day – February 20, 2022~U.S.
National Handcuff Day is celebrated on February 20 every year because it was on this very day that George A. Carney was given a patent number in the U.S. for his “lightweight and adjustable swinging bow ratchet-type handcuff”, according to Carney. The handcuffs in question were developed in the year 1912 and had a design that was comparatively more comfortable than the previous handcuffs that were developed. These handcuffs are now used when arresting criminals, or when the need to detain someone arises. On this day, start celebrating in order to pay a tribute to the great American innovators that have changed life as we know it.
HISTORY OF NATIONAL HANDCUFF DAY While the handcuffs we see today are different, the idea to use an object to restrain someone has existed since ancient Greek times. The creation of restraints has in fact been spotted in Greek mythology. Other mentions of restraining devices date back to the fourth century B.C. where Carthaginian armies used them to hold prisoners of war. However, like other inventions, handcuffs also evolved over time and were created out of several materials before they reached the most efficient design.
In 1780, Hiatt Handcuff became the first company to manufacture the cuffs, but it wasn’t until 1850 that different styles of handcuffs were formulated. This is because incidents of crime had increased and the need for restraints escalated. At that point in time, there were two handcuffs – the ‘Bango handcuffs’ and the ‘flexible handcuffs.’ The Bango handcuffs didn’t allow prisoners any movement, whereas the flexible ones allowed prisoners to slightly move and perform necessary movements such as eating and drinking water.
In the late 19th century, the ‘Snap’ became the most popular handcuff since it could actually ‘snap’ onto the wrists of the criminals or suspects. Then came the ‘Twister’, which was compact and could easily be carried. The first popular adjustable handcuffs were produced by Tower, and were able to provide sustainability and security. These cuffs were created by John J. Tower in 1865 and included a series of handcuffs built under license. Tower applied for his first patent in 1871 to cover the round or oval bow he invented.

National Cherry Pie Day – February 20, 2022~U.S.
National Cherry Pie Day is on February 20. With all its fruity, buttery goodness, we have our forks ready to devour this delicious dessert in all its forms — homemade or store-bought everything is better with pie! With this holiday being celebrated only a few days after Presidents’ Day, it is believed that this pie flavor was chosen for its significance to George Washington and the myth created by his biographer about Washington’s honesty when he cut down his father’s cherry tree.
HISTORY OF NATIONAL CHERRY PIE DAY The first pie dates back as far as 9500 B.C. in ancient Egypt. Known for their love of sweets and meats, Egyptians usually made pies with honey and dates, which were encased in reeds, as the filling of a pie was only meant to be eaten. It is believed that the Romans learned about pies from the Greeks who then introduced this delectable dish to the rest of Europe.
Devoured only by royalty and the wealthy, the pie continued its culinary impact in medieval Europe as early Tupperware for baking, carrying, and storing food. Even though the reeds had now changed to a pastry made of flour and water, it was still inedible due to its thickness, hardness, and lack of flavor. The filling was still the main part of the dish, predominantly made of meat and seafood. As the shape of pie evolved into a narrow dish, the pie bases were called ‘coffyns’.
In the 1500s, fruit pies were introduced and became popular. The cherry pie is believed to have made its first appearance during this time and was presented to Queen Elizabeth I. Pies first came to America with the early English settlers, along with cherry trees, which were different from those that became native. The tradition of not eating the pie casing was still maintained. But it was during the American Revolution between 1775 and 1783 that the term ‘coffyn’ changed to ‘crust’ and, not long after, became something to eat as part of your pie and not just to protect or store its content.
The cherry pie is one of America’s favorite pie fillings, traditionally made with tart cherries instead of sweet ones, morello cherries, or native black cherries. This tasty dessert is great with large amounts of ice cream or cream, whipped or poured.

Mizoram State Day – February 20, 2022~India
Mizoram State Day is on February 20. The day marks the formation of Mizoram as a state. The region is a state in north-eastern India and shares a border with countries like Bangladesh and Myanmar. Are you wondering why this particular name was chosen for the state? Well, it’s because the inhabitants of the region are called Mizo. Based on the history, the British were particularly interested in the region’s resources such as tea and milk when they took over India. Hence, the state was officially formulated once India gained independence. To honor the day and the struggle of the residents, start celebrating now!
HISTORY OF MIZORAM STATE DAY Before Mizoram was declared a state, tribes from north Eastern India resided in this region. The origins of the tribes are still however a bit mysterious. According to historical records, the tribes migrated to India from China during the Mongoloid wave. Some also believe that the tribes emerged from the Shinlung or Chhinlung San, two areas located on the banks of the Yalung River in China. But the story gets even more complicated!
Although the people are called Mizos today, the first group of immigrants was formerly known as ‘Kukis.’ The second batch of people moving to India then came to be known as ‘New Kukis,’ while the last were referred to as ‘Lushais.’ During the 18th and 19th centuries, several tribe raids took place as the Mizo Hills were also declared under the ruling of the British in 1895. In 1935, a proclamation had left the districts of Lushai Hills and Assam to be regarded as an Excluded Area.
The Mizos despised the British ruling and therefore a political awakening had been evoked. As a result of the awakening, the first Mizo political party came into existence. On April 9, 1946, The Mizo Common People’s Union was born — later on, renamed as Mizo Union (MU). Although the party did bring about some change, the Mizos were never fully satisfied with the outcome as the British were still in major control. It was only when the British left India in 1947 that the Mizos were free.

Hoodie Hoo Day – February 20, 2022~U.S.
Hoodie Hoo Day is on February 20. If you are sick of the heaters, coats-on-sweaters, red noses, and boots, mark the end of winter with fun as you join your community to say goodbye to winter. Spring is a beautiful season of the year that we always look forward to. We cannot wait for winter to end, so we shout Hoodie Hoo on Hoodie Hoo Day.
HISTORY OF HOODIE HOO DAY Hoodie Hoo Day was established by the owners of Wellcat, and is set on a day exactly a month before spring.
On Hoodie Hoo Day, people in the community gather in a place at noon, wave their hands and shout, “Hoodie Hoo!” to say goodbye to winter and welcome to spring.
Spring is a beautiful season where flowers bloom, the sun is warm and pleasant, children grow faster, and animals give birth.
However, it has its downside. More tornadoes occur during spring than in any other season of the year. It is also a season where diseases spread faster, and is considered a bad time to have children.
Nevertheless, we cannot help but look forward to feeling the warm sun on our faces and the cool breeze blowing through hair.
Spring is a special season in many places, as Hoodie Hoo Day is celebrated in other ways in different places. For example, people gather to burn an effigy and throw it in a river to welcome spring and bid winter farewell in Poland. But this is done on the first day of spring.
This shows how excited we are to move on from dull ol’ winter and embrace the pleasant warmth of spring.
We are not sure whether Hoodie Hoo really works, but it is a great way to bid the winter goodbye and get ready to have the best spring yet.
After shouting Hoodie Hoo, we go home to hot cups of tea, cuddle, eat, and do something fun like getting our closets ready for spring outfits, getting flower seeds to plant, and making plans for spring.
And if you ever wonder what Hoodie Hoo means, we are not sure either. But, it was first used in the Andy Griffith show, meaning “How are you?” in country slang.

Clean Out Your Bookcase Day – February 20, 2022~U.S.
On Clean Out Your Bookcase Day every February 20, take out your cleaning supplies and organizing tools, and get ready to revamp the bookcase. Yes, your old dusty bookcase needs your attention and today is the day you give it a new outlook. All you have to do is decide how you will reorganize all the books, and what you plan on doing with the books that you don’t want anymore. Here’s a tip, Google ideas on the different attractive ways you can decorate your bookshelf and add some spice to the otherwise dull piece of furniture. It’s time to get cleaning!
HISTORY OF CLEAN OUT YOUR BOOKCASE DAY Bookcases are an essential piece of furniture for whoever has an interest in reading. Admit it, a home with books lying on the floor isn’t a pretty sight, hence, a bookcase is required for anyone who wants to stay organized. However, over a period of time, the bookcase tends to get messy and is often covered with books that you have either outgrown, or don’t have any interest in reading. The purpose of the day is to help one decide which books they want to re-read and which ones they want to give away. Reorganizing the bookcase is also important since any visitor you have is bound to question you about the books they see. Hence, not having read more than a few books on the shelf is just going to build a bad impression.
Coming to the history of bookcases, the piece of furniture has existed in one way or another since the invention of books took place. The initial design also evolved based on the materials that were available during each century. In Italy during the 17th century, there was once a time when there were built-in bookcases with pilasters, or recessed columns. At times, even the statues or carved urns on the cornice had spaces for books. However, the French were the first to use bookcases in which the upper part was paneled in glass instead of wood. It wasn’t until the reign of Queen Anne in England that the designs became simpler.

Valkara are you near Nova Scotia? Nova Scotia Heritage Day – February 21, 2022~Canada
Introduced by the provincial government in 2013, Nova Scotia Heritage Day celebrates the unique people, heritage, and history of Nova Scotia on the third Monday in February. As part of the festivities, the provincial government honors an important Nova Scotian every year, with the first batch of honorees selected from a pool submitted by the province’s schoolchildren. One of Canada’s Easternmost provinces, Nova Scotia is the most populous of the Maritime Provinces and an important area of settlement for the indigenous Mi’kmaq people and, later, French and British colonists. The province claims the title of the world’s largest exporter of lobster and other fish, exporting seafood to over 90 countries.
HISTORY OF NOVA SCOTIA HERITAGE DAY A small and densely populated region in the far eastern reaches of Canada, Nova Scotia or New Scotland, has a long and diverse history. First inhabited by the Mi’kmaq people, the area was invaded by Europeans starting in the 1600s. France established its first North American settlement at Port Royal, which served as an important port and Acadian capital for over a century until the French gave up their claim in 1763. During the American War of Independence against Britain, thousands of British loyalists fled to Nova Scotia. In 1867, the province joined with New Brunswick and present-day Ontario and Quebec to form the beginnings of the modern Canadian nation.
Almost completely surrounded by water, Nova Scotia benefits from a relatively mild climate compared to its other northern counterparts. In the second half of the 19th century, the region became a world leader in the construction of wooden sailing ships. The seafood industry continued to be a backbone of the province’s economy well into the 20th century, but overfishing and the depletion of fish stocks caused sharp declines in productivity. Today, Nova Scotia is the world’s top exporter of Christmas trees, lobster, and gypsum. The province also hosts film production and a rapidly growing IT sector.
Started in 2015, Nova Scotia Heritage Day seeks to honor Nova Scotian history and culture as well as individuals who have made an impact. The first honoree, Viola Desmond, was a pioneering businesswoman who challenged racial and gender norms. In 2017, the holiday focused on the Mi’kmaq people and their contributions to the region’s culture and history.

Daisy Gatson Bates Day – February 21, 2022~U.S.
Daisy Gatson Bates Day is observed every year on the third Monday in February, and takes place on February 21 this year. Many educational institutions in the United States, especially Arkansas, take time to incorporate activities to highlight this history and work of this activist who went above and beyond to make the world a better place. Additionally, many events may also be held in honor of Daisy Bates.
HISTORY OF DAISY GATSON BATES DAY Daisy Gatson Bates Day is celebrated every year on the third Monday of February. Many educational institutions in the United States, especially Arkansas, take time to incorporate activities to highlight Daisy Lee Gatson Bates’ history and work. Additionally, many events may also be held in honor of Bates.
Celebrated in Arkansas, Daisy Gatson Bates Day is a public holiday that honors the life of the civil rights activist who played a key role in an integration crisis at Little Rock Central High School in 1957. Marking her contribution to society, the Arkansans take the day off, with schools and most businesses being closed for the day.
Bates was born in Huttig, Arkansas in 1913. When she was just three years old, her mother was killed by three Caucasian men leaving a lasting impact on her impressionable mind. This unfortunate and life-altering instance led her to confront the rampant issue of racism and discrimination based on the color of people’s skin, pushing her to dedicate her life to ending racial injustice.
After her marriage at the age of 15, the couple settled in the city of Little Rock in Arkansas and started their newspaper called “The Arkansas Weekly.” The publication was launched with a clear vision to speak up about social and civil rights and become the voice of African Americans in the country. Bates not only worked as an editor but also regularly contributed articles committed to the cause.
To make a difference on a larger scale, Bates also worked closely with many local Civil Rights organizations, including serving as the President of the Arkansas chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (N.A.A.C.P.). Given her consistent efforts to eradicate racism and her work with the government, Bates has become a household name.

Islander Day – February 21, 2022~Canada
Islander Day is an annual state holiday celebrated on the third Monday of February and takes place on February 21 this year. This occasion is for people in the province of Prince Edward Island (PEI), Canada. On this day, provincial offices and educational institutions usually remain closed, allowing their employees to take a day off. The idea behind the holiday is to give people some much-needed time to relax and pursue their personal interests and hobbies, as well as enjoy some time with their and the community. It’s a great excuse to spend a day reading your favorite book or catching up with a friend. It’s your day to do whatever you feel like.
HISTORY OF ISLANDER DAY Wondering how this chilled holiday came into being? Let’s give you a sneak peek into the background. Islander Day was commemorated for the first time in 2008. When Robert Ghiz was elected premier of PEI in 2007, he made a promise to declare a new holiday for the island. He made good on his promise the next year, saying that the holiday would give everyone in his province an opportunity to celebrate /personal time and community life. It was officially declared as a statutory holiday on November 28, 2008, after getting approval from the province’s legislature.
Initially, it was the second Monday of February that was decided to be the holiday and its first observance was to be February 9, 2009. However, this became an issue for federal government employees. Officials of the Public Service Alliance of Canada decided that these employees would have to choose between Islander Day and a federal government holiday in August. Later, Carolyn Bertram, the then Community and Cultural Affairs Minister of the island, raised the matter with Rona Ambrose, Federal Minister of Labour. Bertram stated that Islander Day was supposed to be a paid holiday for workers across the province. Ambrose agreed to look into the matter as a federal collective agreement fell outside provincial jurisdiction. Having further considered the issue, the federal committee changed the date to be the third Monday of February, which took effect from 2010.
Thanks to Ghiz’s promise and Bertram’s efforts, we now have a long weekend to take a much-needed break from work to chill and have fun.

Day – February 21, 2022~Canada
Day in Canada, the third Monday in February, is technically not a national, federally-mandated holiday. But most Canadians live in areas that celebrate it as a province-level statutory holiday — in British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario, New Brunswick, and Saskatchewan as ‘ Day;’ in Manitoba as ‘Louis Riel Day;’ in Nova Scotia as ‘Nova Scotia Heritage Day,’ and on Prince Edward Island as ‘Islander Day.’ For our purposes, we will refer to the holiday as Day from here forward. HISTORY OF DAY Alberta was the first province to observe Day, back in 1990. As the next few years ensued, Saskatchewan and Ontario followed suit. In 2012, British Columbia followed as well, changing the date of its celebration from the second to the third Monday in February a few years later to match the date of neighboring provinces’ observances. New Brunswick announced its holiday in 2018. Manitoba, PEI, and Nova Scotia joined the party in 2007, 2009, 2013, respectively. In Yukon, the already-existing Yukon Heritage Day was considered close enough on the calendar to the new Day holiday that no changes were made. As you may imagine, there are no established traditions surrounding Day as there are for Christmas and New Year’s Day, for example. But, as the name implies, many Canadians take advantage of the three-day weekend in February to spend extra time with loved ones. Road trips, winter sports outings, and extended gatherings are all popular ways to observe the holiday. Celebrants find ways to overcome the cold and have a warm and cozy Day!

Presidents' Day – February 21, 2022~U.S.
Every third Monday of February (February 21) we celebrate Presidents’ Day in all its patriotic glory. Many people relish their day off of work, but they might be surprised to know that that was the point! In 1971, Presidents’ Day moved in an effort to create more three-day weekends for the public in the hope that this would inspire greater productivity nationwide. It was believed that at this point in the year, the restorative effects of the winter holidays have begun to fade and people need another break to regain some of that lost stamina.
WHEN IS PRESIDENTS' DAY 2022? Presidents' Day is celebrated every year on the third Monday of February — February 21 this year. All the presidents in American history are remembered and honored for their exemplary work in making America the great country it is today.
HISTORY OF PRESIDENTS' DAY After the death of George Washington in 1799, his birthday was unofficially celebrated as a day of remembrance called Washington Day. Throughout the 1800s, people used this day to honor the man that shaped America and the legacy he left. In 1832, a resolution permitted the removal and internment of George Washington’s body in the Capitol Building in Washington D.C. and the erection of the Washington Monument in 1848 caused more celebrations nationwide.
It wasn’t until the late 1870s that Steven Wallace Dorsey proposed that Washington’s birthday should become a national federal holiday. President Rutherford B. Hayes signed it into law in 1879 and joined the four existing bank holidays that were previously approved in 1870. Because of Abraham Lincoln’s legacy and the proximity of his birthday on February 12, it was proposed that Washington Day should become Presidents’ Day to celebrate both men, but that idea was rejected by Congress.
Washington’s Birthday didn’t officially become Presidents’ Day until the late 1960s. Senator Robert McClory of Illinois concocted a plan that moved key bank holidays to Mondays to increase the number of three-day weekends for workers in what’s known as the Uniform Monday’s Act. The hope was that it would increase productivity and decrease employee absenteeism. Unsurprisingly, the labor union agreed with this idea and so did the private sector.
In 1971, Richard M. Nixon made the executive order to pass the Uniform Monday Holiday Act, which shifted Washington’s Birthday, Columbus Day, Memorial Day, and Veterans’ Day to Monday. With the date landing in the middle of Lincoln’s and Washington’s Birthday, it became known as Presidents’ Day, while having a simultaneous benefit for retail stores as they advertised their special sales events during this time. By the mid-1980s, Presidents’ Day became the common term and continues to be called as such to this day.

Be Humble Day – February 22, 2022~World
On Be Humble Day that is celebrated on February 22, people across the world, irrespective of their religion, culture, and philosophy come together and stress the importance of being humble. Many great personalities say that humility is the most difficult of all virtues to attain. Either way, Be Humble Day focuses on the importance of being humble.
HISTORY OF BE HUMBLE DAY Apt to this day we celebrate, the person who is responsible for the founding and celebration of Be Humble Day is unknown. Yes, the exact origin and the founder of Be Humble Day still remains a mystery. Maybe he didn’t like to boast — a true sign of being humble!
Speaking of boasting, on Be Humble Day, no boasting is allowed, because bragging about one’s achievements, success and abilities can lead to pride, a.k.a one of the seven deadly sins. In this self-obsessed world where people are increasingly becoming narcissistic, obsessed with their appearance, and attention-seeking, not choosing to brag is much more difficult than one might think. So, being humble in this world is itself a great achievement.
Being humble is more than not boasting about one’s own life and achievements, it is all about listening to others, accepting our errors and weaknesses, and working on them to get better. This is exactly what Be Humble Day advocates.
But unfortunately, in most cases, humble people receive a bad rap. This is due to a misconception that humility is associated with being too passive, submissive, or insecure — this is far from true. Humble people are quite the opposite with full of confidence and belief in themselves. So, they are eager to help others and hear others out.
By being humble, one can achieve many things including higher self-control and joy. So, this Be Humble Day, practice humility by just being humble and silent!

Cook a Sweet Potato Day – February 22, 2022~U.S.
Cook a Sweet Potato Day is celebrated every year on February 22. This vegetable is loved and eaten by millions every day in the United States alone. Many times people confuse sweet potatoes with yams; however, that’s not the case. Cultivars of the sweet potato bear tubers with flesh and skin of many colors.
HISTORY OF COOK A SWEET POTATO DAY Sweet Potatoes are widely consumed by billions across the globe and mainly in America. This sweet root vegetable is very versatile and is used in salads and soups and can be eaten for breakfast, lunch, snack, or dinner. The most important part of the vegetable is the starchy tuberous roots. Nevertheless, the leaves and shoots are also edible. Eating cooked tubers can increase their nutritional value and digestibility; however, many American colonists in the Southeast consumed raw sweet potatoes.
Sweet potatoes are a distant relative of the common potato as they both belong in the order Solanales. It is believed that before Western exploration, sweet potatoes were grown in Polynesia. Later, it is said they have spread to Central or South America typically through the spread of vine cuttings rather than seeds. In fact, it is believed that Central America domesticated sweet potatoes around 5,000 years ago. According to the Peruvian sweet potato remnants found in South America, it has been observed that they date back to 8000 B.C.
In 1594, sweet potatoes were introduced in the Fujian province of China from Luzon. Governor Chin Hsüeh-Tseng (Jin Xuezeng) further encouraged growing sweet potatoes. In the year 2019, the global production of sweet potatoes was measured at 92 million tonnes. China led this production with 56% of the world’s total.
Sweet potatoes also arrived in Europe and it is recorded in “Elinor Fettiplace’s Receipt Book,” compiled in England in 1604.

National Margarita Day – February 22, 2022~U.S.
Every February 22, we come together for National Margarita Day to pay homage to our favorite celebratory cocktail. The margarita — triple sec, tequila, and lime juice — was created in 1938 in Mexico and is widely considered the official drink of having fun. It’s always 5 o’clock somewhere, and that’s never truer than on National Margarita Day. So get out a shaker, pull out your frozen margarita machine, or head to your local watering hole and order a margarita. Up, on ice, or on the rocks, you can’t go wrong. Salud!
WHEN IS NATIONAL MARGARITA DAY 2022? National Margarita Day takes place on February 22 and it gives us every good reason to indulge in this highly quaffable alcoholic beverage. When life hands you limes, make margaritas!
HISTORY OF NATIONAL MARGARITA DAY The earliest occurrence of the famed cocktail was in 1938 by the father of the drink Carlos “Danny” Herrera. He made it in his restaurant located in Baja California, for a famous customer named Marjorie King, a dancer on the hit American theatrical broadway “Ziegfeld follies” because she was allergic to spirits but not tequila — and just like that our beloved drink was born.
The problem is, Herrera isn’t the only person to claim to be the OG margarita maker. One of them was Francisco “Pancho” Morales who was a bartender in Mexico, who first mixed the cocktail in 1942 in Juárez, Mexico and then left to become a US citizen and work as a milkman for 25 years. He has the backing of the official Mexican newspaper — Notimex.
The wildest story is this last one. Margarita Sames, a Dallas “higher class” citizen, believed she created the drink in her vacation home for her guests in Acapulco, Mexico in 1948. Tommy Hilton (yes… that Hilton) who was friends with Margarita attended the party, and then brought it back to his hotel chains and put it on the menu. But before he could even breath, Jose Cuervo, of the famous tequila brand, claimed he was already running ad campaigns for the drink in 1945, with the catchphrase, “Margarita: It’s more than a girl’s name.” Regardless of where the drink was first made, one thing is for certain — everyone was having fun.
Thankfully, margaritas come in a ton of different varieties, it’s not a surprise why 76% of Americans enjoy a nice margarita. From strawberry and peach to mango and berry, to slightly stronger drinks with beer, to even having healthier versions like skinny margaritas and sportier cocktails (just swap out the triple sec for a Gatorade). It doesn’t matter if you’re at a bar, at home on the sofa or just finished an important meeting; grab the nearest fruit, tequila, triple sec and mix that baby up to the rhythm of “one tequila, two tequila, three tequila, floor”. But do drink responsibly, too much tequila has been known T’kill’ya!
