National Panda Day – March 16, 2022~World
Every year on March 16, we celebrate the fluffiest, bamboo-munching bears that are a source of national pride for China. There are two subspecies of panda: The Giant, black and white panda, and the ‘Qinling panda’ – A much smaller, brown subspecies of panda, discovered in 1985 in the mountain ranges of the southern Shaanxi Province in China. In the wilderness, giant pandas live only in the remote, mountainous regions of China. As of 2019, due to rapidly growing population numbers, the status of pandas was upgraded from “endangered” species to “vulnerable” species.
Still, it is reported that there are less than 2,000 pandas left in the wild, due to habitat loss, farming, fur hunting, and other factors. Pandas only live about 15 to 20 years in the wild, but those in captivity can live even longer. Panda bears play an important part in the ecosystem of China’s bamboo forests, by spreading seeds, and therefore, growing new vegetation, which serves both humans and animals. That’s why it is important to protect the panda and its environment.
One factor contributing to their endangered status is the low birth rate for pandas. Considering that female pandas are only fertile two or three days of the year, it makes sense that reproduction in the wild is more difficult for this species. There are about 27 zoos worldwide that protect Giant Pandas, and foster environments to encourage reproduction. The most important factor for preserving wild pandas is to protect their environment, especially bamboo forests, their main source of nutrition.
HISTORY OF NATIONAL PANDA DAY Though the origin of this holiday is unknown, we can assume that the day was created to bring awareness to the beauty of pandas, in order to keep them from going extinct. In 1961, the World Wide Fund for Nature was formed, and created their logo around the Panda, because it is “an animal that is beautiful, endangered, and loved by many people in the world,” as said by Sir Peter Scott, one of the first WWF founders. The panda became a symbol of the conservation movement around the world — a call to action to preserve endangered species, and our natural wildlife environments for our wild animals.
In 2020, due to the reproduction efforts in zoos, reforestation and conservation campaigns, pandas are considered “vulnerable” to extinction. Though they are no longer on the brink of extinction, it’s important to keep the environment for pandas intact, as the giant panda plays an important part in our natural ecosystem. There have been some political debates in China and worldwide recently on how important it is to keep spending money to breed pandas in captivity, and protect the forests of China, where the wild panda bears live. According to a scientific paper published in 2015 by The Society for Conservation Biology, preserving the natural habitat of the giant panda also helps 70% of the country’s forest birds, 70% of mammals and 31% of amphibians. Pandas play a crucial role in forests, and it’s our job to protect them.

National Vaccination Day – March 16, 2022~India
National Vaccination Day is observed every year on March 16. The day conveys the importance of vaccination and its role in public health. On this day in 1995, the first dose of the oral polio vaccine was given in India. Vaccination or immunization is the most effective prevention method of highly infectious diseases. According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), “immunization is a proven tool for controlling and eliminating life-threatening infectious diseases.” Vaccination is crucial to improving public health and life expectancy standards and elevating social and economic impact at the community and national levels.
HISTORY OF NATIONAL VACCINATION DAY The practice of vaccination dates back hundreds of years. Evidence points to the Chinese employing smallpox inoculation from 1000 A.D. Even the African and Turkish people practiced it before it spread to Europe and the Americas. ‘
Edward Jenner is considered the founder of vaccinology after he inoculated a 13 year-old-boy with vaccinia virus (cowpox) in 1976 and demonstrated immunity to smallpox. In 1798, the first smallpox vaccine was developed, and during the 18th and 19th centuries, mass smallpox immunization led to the disease’s eradication in 1979. Experiments by Louis Pasteur led to the development of cholera and inactivated anthrax vaccines, and the plague vaccine was also invented in the late 19th century. Between 1890 and 1950, bacterial vaccine development increased, including the BCG vaccination, which we still use today. In 1923, Alexander Glenny researched the perfect method to inactivate tetanus toxin with formaldehyde, and then the same method led to the development of the diphtheria vaccine in 1926. Viral tissue culture methods developed from 1950 to 1985 led to the advent of the Salk and Sabin polio vaccines. Thanks to mass immunization, polio is nearly eradicated in many countries globally.
We have made massive strides in vaccinology in the past two decades and have seen the successful development and manufacturing of recombinant hepatitis B and seasonal influenza vaccines. We will see even more effective vaccines with advancing technology, including therapeutic vaccines for allergies, autoimmune diseases, and addictions.

Purim – March 16, 2022~World
Every year starting on the Hebrew date of Adar 14 ( March 16, 2020), Jewish people all over the world celebrate the victorious festival of Purim. This religious celebration commemorates the salvation of the Jewish people in ancient Persia from the cruel Haman’s plot to rid them from the world. So raise a glass, rejoice, and feast — Chag Purim Sameach!
HISTORY OF PURIM Purim’s (which roughly translates into “lots” in ancient Persian) story begins in 4th century BCE, when Jewish people lived under the law of the Persian Empire. King Ahasuerus had just had his wife, Queen Vashti, executed for refusing to follow his orders and decided to arrange a beauty pageant in order to find a new wife. Esther, a Jewish girl, had caught his attention, quickly becoming the new queen, however she refused to reveal her nationality.
During all of this, Haman — who was actively against all things having to do with Judaism — was newly appointed prime minister of the empire. Leader of the Jews and cousin of the new queen, Mordechai, refused the king’s orders to bow. Fueled by his active hatred, Haman talked the king into setting forward a decree that dictated the mass genocide of all Jews during Adar 13.
While Mordechai convinced all of his fellow Jews to quickly repent, Queen Esther asked the king and Haman to join her for a large feast. During the meal, Esther revealed to both her husband and the prime minister that she, herself, was Jewish, and to kill all Jews would be to plot against killing the king’s wife. Haman was instantly hanged and Esther’s cousin Mordechai was appointed the new prime minister. His first decree granted all Jews the right to defend themselves against anyone trying to harm them due to their religion.
On Adar 13, the Jews of the Persian Empire rose up and attacked a large amount of the people plotting to kill them by the masses and on the following day, Adar 14, they rested and celebrated. Though Jewish people all over the world take part in celebrating Purim, the holiday is celebrated at large in Israel with a huge festival lasting from Adar 14 to Adar 15 (March 9 and 10, 2020).

No Selfies Day – March 16, 2022~U.S.
We celebrate No Selfies Day every year on March 16. While the act of taking a selfie may predate social media, smartphones, and the word itself, selfies have always been popular. Over the years, selfies have become easier to take, and today, you can click a selfie on almost every device. Selfie sticks and multi-functional camera phones make it all too convenient to take selfies and group selfies or ‘groupies.’ However, on No Selfies Day, we are not allowed to take any selfies or groupies. We know… torture. But we’re all in this together!
HISTORY OF NO SELFIES DAY The history, origin, and founder of No Selfies Day are unknown. There is no mention of its first observance, but we celebrate it on the birthday of Philippe Kahn, who invented the cell phone camera. Coincidence? We think not! The day targets those obsessed with taking selfies (us all) and the harmful effects. It’s a gentle reminder not to take a picture of yourself today.
Selfie addiction has been linked with psychologically damaging behavior. Research has revealed that a woman, on average, spends about 104 minutes each week trying to capture perfect selfies! Selfies have become a cultural phenomenon because they reveal the basic human desire to feel noticed, appreciated, and recognized. Due to fast-paced social media development, people take selfies and upload them for likes and comments to keep up with the trends. Selfies are even enhanced with lights, filters, effects, and more. As a result, people tend to become confused between someone’s online presence and their real life, leading to a rise in body dysmorphia cases.
Studies also show that we can be negatively affected when someone comments something hurtful, dislikes our image, or even when the image doesn’t get as many likes or comments as one would expect. No Selfies Day gives both the chance and acts as a reminder to forget selfies for at least a day and photograph others instead. Or perhaps just take mind pictures to store for years to come.

Everything You Do is Right Day – March 16, 2022~U.S.
Everything You Do is Right Day is celebrated on March 16 every year. The day comes a day after Everything You Think is Wrong Day and cheers us up after feeling bad about the decisions we might have made the day before. Everything You Do is Right Day reminds us that everything will be alright. No matter what happened yesterday, today can be its own bright day. Nothing can go wrong today because everything you do is right, and it’s going to be a perfect day. Everything you do is going to turn out right, no matter your age or status!
HISTORY OF EVERYTHING YOU DO IS RIGHT DAY We don’t know how Everything You Do Is Right Day came about, but according to our research, it looks like the day doesn’t have an origin. It’s basically the Friday of days compared to the Monday (Everything You Think is Wrong Day), and there isn’t any explanation why and how either of these celebrations came to be. However, those who celebrate the days do it in style, and that’s a good enough reason to observe this fun holiday!
There is no particular way to celebrate the day other than assuming that whatever you do today is right and you should feel happy with this knowledge! No matter what your boss, parents, or significant other may tell you — you are doing everything right today! But of course, Everything You Do is Right Day doesn’t give you the freedom to indulge in something illegal, immoral, or mean-spirited. Instead, the day is celebrated by doing something that you wouldn’t on any other day and taking risks that seem daunting to you.
To sum it up, Everything You Do is Right Day rights your wrongs. Just relax and feel good about yourself, but please don’t use Everything You Do is Right Day as an excuse to hurt anyone and get away with it! This unofficial holiday aims to make you feel good about your deeds and decisions and take the good with the bad.

Fast of Esther – March 16, 2022~World
The Fast of Esther is observed on the preceding day of the festival of Purim, and it will be observed on March 16 this year. We are here to tell you how you can recognize the day in the best possible way. Do you know that it has been more than 2000 years since “The Book of Esther” was written? The fast is observed to commemorate the events in “The Book of Esther.” The Fast of Esther is a minor fast day, and it begins at the break of dawn and ends by sunset. Food and water are forbidden during these hours, but no other physical conveniences.
HISTORY OF FAST OF ESTHER The Fast of Esther is observed to memorialize the events in “The Book of Esther.” Some say that a fast is observed on this day as it was on this day that Esther fasted for three days and three nights. It is believed that Mordecai proclaimed a three-day fast when he informed Esther about Haman’s plans, and Esther suggested that she and the Jewish community of Shushan fasted for three days. The story goes that Haman, the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, was displeased upon hearing that Mordechai would not bow down to him. When he found out that Mordechai was a Jew, he convinced Ahasuerus to allow him to kill all the members of the Jew community.
Esther stepped in and decided to foil Haman’s plan. She invited Haman to a banquet. Haman honored the invite and fell on Esther’s couch, pleading for mercy. But Queen Esther had informed the King that Haman had come to kill her. Enraged, the king entered the banquet, and when he saw Haman on the couch, he interpreted it as sexual advancement and was further infuriated. Haman was hanged.
Some scholars believe that the fast is observed as the Jews who went to battle with the enemies had fasted to get divine favor. King Ahasuerus had initially given orders to kill the Jews, orders he couldn’t annul. Ahasuerus then asked the Jews to fight back and kill anyone who sought to kill them. The Jews are said to have fasted before going into battle and slaying over 75,000 men.
The Fast of Esther has been observed by Jews for centuries on the day preceding the festival of Purim. Some also believe that the fast is observed to nullify the feasting and merrymaking during Purim.

National Artichoke Day – March 16, 2022~U.S.
March 16 is National Artichoke Hearts Day, a day to celebrate and chow down on these nutritious, delicious plants. Artichokes are from the Mediterranean and are one of the oldest foods in the world — the Greeks and Romans ate them in the 8th century! Today, we love eating them boiled, baked, steamed, grilled, fried, and every other which way. In America, 99.9% of the artichokes we buy are grown in California, and in fact, the artichoke is the official state vegetable! To get to heart of that matter, we love everything about this yummy vegetable.

Freedom of Information Day – March 16, 2022~U.S.
Freedom of Information Day is observed every year on March 16 on the birthday of former President James Madison. The day ensures the public is aware of all the government’s information and provided with the necessary information. The information the government can hold on to may include the decisions it makes, the facts it discovers, and sometimes private information on people for surveillance purposes. Under the Freedom of Information Act, an individual can demand the information they want by requesting it, and this information is provided free of cost or with a minimal fee.
HISTORY OF FREEDOM OF INFORMATION DAY We don’t really know when Freedom of Information Day was first celebrated. However, the day is observed on James Madison’s birthday, the fourth President of the U.S., born on March 16, 1751. He is remembered as the “Father of the Constitution” who drafted and promoted the American Constitution and the Bill of Rights.
The Freedom of Information Act (F.O.I.A.) was passed on July 4, 1966, and came into effect a year later. The date was chosen since Madison was an advocate for the freedom of data and individual rights to obtain the correct information. This day serves as a yearly reminder of the significance of transparency within the American government and the public’s right to information.
The right to information was the fruit of the labor of several people who dedicated their entire lives fighting for it. Freedom of Information Day celebrates the idea of free information, giving more power and transparency to people, and making democracies stronger. Every person has an equal role in the nation’s governance, which means that everyone’s vote is important. The same fact applies to freedom of information. Every citizen deserves to know the facts related to the government. This helps people make important decisions and ensure that their government and elected representatives serve them well.

Evacuation Day in Massachusetts – March 17, 2022~U.S.
Evacuation Day is observed every year on March 17. It is a public holiday in Suffolk County, including Boston, Massachusetts, in the U.S. It celebrates the day when the British troops evacuated Boston during the American Revolutionary War. Boston is the seat of Suffolk County, where various activities are held each year to commemorate the event. Evacuation Day is a day off for most people, with schools and most businesses closing for the day. The Dorchester Heights Monument built from white marble commemorates the events related to Evacuation Day.
HISTORY OF EVACUATION DAY IN MASSACHUSETTS Evacuation Day commemorates the first major American military victory in the American Revolutionary War. On this day in 1776, the British troops were forced to leave Boston after General George Washington (the first U.S. president) successfully fortified Dorchester Heights.
General William Howe of the British Army found heavy guns aimed at his soldiers and the British fleet. And rather than repeating the casualties of the Battle of Bunker Hill, the British troops left in haste on March 17, never to return. The American Continental Army’s sacrifices and efforts played a big role in establishing the U.S. Evacuation Day was proclaimed as a holiday in 1901, and Dorchester Heights in South Boston is remembered as the place where the rebel troops placed heavy artillery to attack the British warships. The area was strategically important because of its elevation and view of Boston and its harbor. This is why Evacuation Day is celebrated in Boston too.
Evacuation Day and St Patrick’s Day are both celebrated on March 17, which is perfect as many residents in Suffolk County are Irish descendants! Today, we also acknowledge the Irish Catholics for helping General George Washington defeat the British soldiers on March 17, 1776. Evacuation Day is celebrated in Massachusetts with re-enactments, essay contests, and visits to historically significant sites.

National Close the Gap Day – March 17, 2022~Australia
National Close the Gap Day is observed on the third Thursday of March, falling on March 17 this year, and advocates for health equity of Australia’s indigenous people and educating the public about the health issues and barriers to well-being faced by them. Since 2007, National Close the Gap Day brings together Australians from all over the country to advocate for health equity and take meaningful action to create better and more equitable conditions for the indigenous people. The campaign encourages people and organizations to plan events that draw attention to the health issues of Australia’s indigenous people and to support legislation and programs for the improvement of their conditions.
HISTORY OF NATIONAL CLOSE THE GAP DAY Launched as a collaboration between Australia’s top public-health organizations and agencies, Close the Gap Day launched in 2007 with an event headlined by Olympians Cathy Freeman and Ian Thorpe. The campaign raises awareness for the poor health suffered by many indigenous Australian groups and the lack of resources available to these populations. The Close the Gap campaign is aimed at improving the health outcomes of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, whose life expectancy is 10–17 years lower than that of non-indigenous Australians. In addition to access to healthcare, other factors including poverty, education, and employment have an impact on the well-being of indigenous groups. Actions must be taken in all of these areas to raise the standard of living for indigenous people and close the gap in healthcare and access to health resources.
Although most Australians enjoy one of the highest life expectancies and qualities of life in the world, the same isn’t true across all ethnic and cultural groups. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people face barriers in accessing quality healthcare and resources to help them stay healthy and thrive. Babies born to indigenous mothers die at a rate twice as high as that of other Australians. This campaign seeks to close this gap and achieve more equitable health outcomes for all Australians.
Close the Gap advocates for health care choice and access, a responsive healthcare system that is sensitive to cultural and linguistic differences, and safe housing that promotes good health.

National Corned Beef and Cabbage Day – March 17, 2022~U.S.
National Corned Beef and Cabbage Day celebrated on March 17 is dedicated to the simplicity of cured meat on a budget. The corned beef and cabbage combination was created decades ago by Irish immigrants. The meal has since become a flavorful favorite in the United States and other parts of the world as well.
The dish was created to fit the budget of Irish Americans who could not afford their homeland’s favorite pork and potatoes. The beef component was used to substitute for pork while the cabbage served as the vegetable replacement. The corned beef and cabbage combination is easy to make and is enjoyed with sour bread, wine or beer.
HISTORY OF NATIONAL CORNED BEEF AND CABBAGE DAY Ever imagined how Corned Beef and Cabbage came to exist?
Once upon a time, long ago, Irishmen immigrated to the U.S. They found simple jobs and earned little, which changed their lifestyle. When it came to food, naturally, they preferred to eat their native dishes like pork and potatoes before adapting to other food in the states.
Unfortunately, the price of food differed drastically. In their homeland, beef was always more expensive than pork, but it was quite the opposite in the U.S. After seeing Jewish immigrants replace bacon and pork with corned beef, the Irish did the same, commenting that the two were very similar.
Corned beef is made using the same salt curing method the Irish used to prepare pork. This is the main reason for their similar texture and taste. By now, you must be wondering, how did cabbage come into the pot? After moving to the U.S, the Irishmen had to be economical, so they removed some food staples from their platter, potato being one of them. Cabbage became the more affordable option. Thus, it took center stage next to corned beef.
The corned beef and cabbage dish is made by boiling corned beef, spices, cabbage, and other affordable vegetables together. The meal has become popular worldwide, with some restaurants even serving it as a starter or main.
National Corned Beef and Cabbage Day was adopted by Irish Americans on the same day as St. Patrick’s Day, making the day all about Ireland. The day is celebrated with Irish parades and eating frenzies where corned beef and cabbage are among the main dishes.

Absolutely Incredible Kid Day® – March 17, 2022~U.S.
A thought for Absolutely Incredible Kid Day®:
“There can be no keener revelation of a society’s soul than the way in which it treats its children.” — Nelson Mandela
Kids are the future. Camp Fire stands ready to help. This organization, born as Camp Fire Girls in 1910, has embarked on a mission to “guide young people on their journey to self-discovery.” What can we do to help? It’s simple, really. Absolutely Incredible Kid Day®, celebrated on March 17 this year, encourages adults to write a young person a note — letting them know just why they’re so amazing! (Verbal messages are fine too.) Our thoughtful words can spark a life-changing journey for a child. Let’s get started.

– March 17, 2022~World
Happy St. Patrick’s Day! Unless you’ve been living under the Blarney Stone you already know that March 17 is St. Patrick’s Day. Also affectionately known as St. Paddy’s Day or St. Patty’s Day, it’s the one day each year that everyone and anyone can call themselves Irish – if not by birthright, then in spirit. If you have been living under the Blarney Stone, lucky you! We bet you can share a thing or two about how a religious feast day commemorating the famed Irish patron saint who brought Christianity to Ireland ended up being a day celebrated almost globally, usually involving copious amounts of green beer and whisky shooters.
St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated in more countries around the world than any other single-day national festival, largely due to America’s enthusiasm for what many consider a holiday, although it is not an official holiday in America.
Parades are the heartbeat of St. Patrick Day festivities in America. This is not surprising, since the first parade held in St. Patrick’s honor took place in America, not Ireland, in 1601 in what is now St. Augustine, Florida. And the first actual St. Patrick’s Day parade also took place in America, in 1737, although it was pretty much just a stroll down the middle of a street in Boston by a few Irish Protestants to honor the patron saint of their motherland. The first St. Patrick’s Day parade in New York City was held in 1762, 14 years before the signing of the Declaration of Independence, and was organized by Irish troops serving in British colonies. Today the world’s biggest St. Patrick’s Day celebration is the annual parade in New York City, where more than two million spectators line the parade route, all claiming to be Irish, at least for the day.
WHEN IS 2022? The luck of the Irish and all things green are celebrated on St. Patrick’s Day, which is on March 17 every year. Initially, a day to honor St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland, over time the holiday has evolved into a fun and festive celebration of Irish culture.
HISTORY OF The Catholic Church first recognized March 17 as a feast day commemorating Ireland’s best-known and most beloved patron saint, Saint Patrick, in 1631. With rare exceptions, March 17 always fell during the Christian holy season of Lent, when alcohol consumption was prohibited by the Church. But on Saint Patrick’s feast day, the ban on alcohol was lifted, presumably because it was a feast day, and feasting usually included alcohol.
Saint Patrick’s feast day in Ireland remained a traditionally pious religious day. Irish laws eventually curtailed the use of alcohol during the feast on March 17 by mandating that all pubs remain closed on that day. This was Irish law until it was repealed in the 1970s. The day continued to be and still is observed as a feast day by the Church of Ireland, the Catholic Church, the Anglican Communion, the Eastern Orthodox Church, and the Lutheran Church. However, when the Irish government became aware of a growing interest in St. Patrick’s Day by American tourists in the mid-1990s, they launched a national campaign to convert America’s fascination with St. Patrick’s Day and Irish culture into tourist dollars.
Meanwhile, in America, more than one million Irish men, women, and children were immigrating through Ellis Island in the 1800s. They faced oppressive discrimination in America, leaving most unemployed and living in severe poverty in New York City tenements. As their numbers grew, the Irish discovered strength in unity and rallied together to celebrate their beloved patron saint with a parade every March 17. The practice of St. Patrick’s Day parades and festivals followed Irish immigrants as they made their way across America’s heartland and into the deep south, seeking cheap farmland and job opportunities.
As for our obsession with heavy drinking on St. Patrick’s Day? This appears to be a modern American phenomenon not firmly rooted in Irish tradition. But the Irish are not complaining. When they first came to America, the Irish were rejected and despised. Now everyone wants to be Irish on St. Patrick’s Day. How great is that? The more Irish on St. Patrick’s Day, the merrier.

National Lacy Oatmeal Cookie Day – March 18, 2022~U.S.
National Lacy Oatmeal Cookie Day is celebrated every year on March 18. Unlike classic chunky oatmeal cookies, Lacy Oatmeal cookies are much thinner, tastier, and crisp. They are best enjoyed with ice cream or a dessert of your choice. The cookie comes in many different flavors and serves as a sweet, healthy option. They do not contain whole oat grains, so if you’re not a fan of oat textures but love the flavor, the Lacy Oatmeal cookie is the best way to enjoy them.
HISTORY OF NATIONAL LACY OATMEAL COOKIE DAY Oats are rich in vitamin B, zinc, manganese, folate, iron, carbs, and fiber. Their beneficial properties help reduce cholesterol and blood sugar levels, and improve metabolism, assisting with weight loss. Despite their natural, non-meat origin, oats are considered protein-rich and also contain loads of antioxidants. With that being said, it’s clear that almost all oat products are healthy, including the fan-favorite cookie.
While the origin of the cookies themselves can be dated centuries back, the exact origin of this holiday is not exactly clear. Oatmeal, popularly known as horse food in England, was actually part of the staple human diet in Europe and Scotland. Oats were initially consumed as porridge in Europe before oatcakes were created in the 18th century and became common among soldiers as they gave them strength.
These are a sour version of the cookies, though they contain the same ingredients. Oatmeal was introduced to North America by Scottish immigrants and has become an integral part of the American diet, enjoyed as porridge, cookies, and even used for skin conditions. According to the history books, the first oatmeal cookie recipe was made by Fannie Merrit Farmer in 1896, with lacy oatmeal cookies following decades after.
The cookie can be made using several different recipes, each producing a biscuit with a distinct flavor. Some of the fan favorites include those made with chocolate chips, various nuts, and raisins. The Lacy Oatmeal cookie can be enjoyed with ice cream, sorbet, or a hot beverage like tea.

National Sloppy Joe Day – March 18, 2022~U.S.
National Sloppy Joe Day, celebrated every year on March 18, is a holiday that is dedicated to the greatest sandwich of all time, the sloppy Joe. The sandwich has been around for approximately 95 years now, playing a key role in fast-food restaurants and kitchen tables.
The day aims to explore the wholesomeness of an extraordinary sandwich that has transformed the way people look at sandwiches. The sloppy Joe has garnered global appeal with its base recipe featuring onions, ground beef, and tomato sauce, and depending on what part of the world you are in, delicious varieties are made available from infusing other local ingredients.
HISTORY OF NATIONAL SLOPPY JOE DAY There have been several claims to the origin of the sloppy Joe. One claim states that the sandwich made its debut in 1920, Havana, Cuba. A bartender called José Abel Otero. José created and successfully sold a simple sandwich based on a Cuban dish of shredded beef, tomato sauce, and spices called Ropa Vieja.
He also sold iced seafood, which would often melt and get the bar floor wet and sloppy. Since José was known for the sandwich and wet bar floors, customers linked the two and called him ‘sloppy Joe.’ Ironically, the name stuck to both him and the sandwich.
Some years later, Nobel prize winner and popular writer, Ernest Hemingway, who was a patron of the Havana bar, suggested a friend, Joe Russel, who had just set up a the restaurant in Key West, Florida, serves the sandwich but rebrands it as the ‘Havana sandwich.’
Another origin story dictates that the Joe may have been a variation of the very common ‘loose meat’ sandwiches of the 1930s. At a Cafe in Sioux City, a cook named Joe added some tomato sauce to the loose meat, giving birth to the goodness known as the sloppy Joe.
In 1969, Hunt’s, a ketchup maker, introduced the ‘Manwich,’ which made a more convenient way to prepare the sloppy Joe. The Manwich was a can containing the sloppy Joe sauce and was promoted as more than just a sandwich.

Forgive Mom and Dad Day – March 18, 2022~United States
Forgive Mom and Dad Day is observed on March 18 in many parts of the U.S. Every parent has made a mistake or has argued with their child. Our parents are only human and are prone to making mistakes. But let us not forget that as children, we made a lot of mistakes too. Our parents forgave us plenty of times too. Now, it is time we forgive them. Letting our parents know that we do not hold them accountable for past mistakes will surely make their day!
HISTORY OF FORGIVE MOM AND DAD DAY There is no historical proof as to when this day was first observed. What we know is that Forgive Mom and Dad Day was created by Ruth and Thomas Roy, the founders of Wellcat.com. They came up with a list of random holidays with the motto of celebrating life and its quirky moments. The official website states, “It’s time to let Mom and Dad down off the wedding cake and into the world of mere humans.”
This day is a reminder that although our parents failed at times, they did their best to support us. We all have had rough days with our mom or dad where we might have said mean things to each other. Most times, we do not mean those hurtful words. There is no point holding a prolonged grudge against them. Unless your parents were intentionally cruel or abusive, it is better to forgive them for their faults.
Parenting is a difficult job that requires immense patience and effort. Parenting does not come with a guidebook. There are times when our parents mean well but are not able to channel their love in the right manner. In such a scenario, the best we can do is to accept them for who they are and let go of any resentment that we might have felt towards them.
Instead of suppressing your anger or sadness, you can start a healthy conversation with your parents and let your feelings out. Discussing problems can help you and the other person identify and understand them. Accepting your emotions is good for your mental health. So, maybe give your parents another chance! What do you say?

Awkward Moments Day – March 18, 2022~U.S.
Some things are just better out in the open and Awkward Moments Day on March 18 is your chance to embrace those embarrassing or awkward moments from your past and laugh about them. Remember that time you enthusiastically waved at your friend but soon realized that they were a complete stranger? What about the time when that incy-wincy pebble tripped you in front of all of your classmates? For some of us, it feels like these awkward moments come looking for us. If you’re one of those people, then today is your day.
HISTORY OF AWKWARD MOMENTS DAY The variety of awkward moments is endless, but some of humanity’s most cringe-worthy moments have been better documented than others. Just in case you’re working through your own social faux pas, check out this history to make yourself think: “hey, at least I didn’t do that.”
Turns out, humans have been awkward since the dawn of time. Some of the earliest awkward moments we could find include Isaac Newton incorrectly predicting the end of the world several times, a football team in the 1929 Rose Bowl almost running a touchdown to the wrong side of the field, and President Roosevelt accidentally running into Churchill coming out of the bath, naked!
With the advent of radio, TV, movies, and more technology that connects us, the number of awkward moments publicized and made infamous expanded exponentially. Who hasn’t heard of Janet Jackson’s famous “Nipplegate” situation at the Superbowl? Who doesn’t remember when Ashlee Simpson got caught lip-synching at a concert?
Awkward moments in the YouTube age have a whole new character, as they can be watched over and over again. More famous awkward moments from the 21st century include Mike Tyson falling off a hoverboard and when Ariana Grande got caught on camera licking a doughnut at a bakery before putting it back (ew!).
We have to say, the awkward moments that take the cake are those brought on by the digital age of communication – we mean texting, dating apps, and social media. You know what we’re talking about. Raise your hand if you’ve ever swiped right on a coworker by mistake and had to avoid their desk on your way to the kitchen. Who else has liked a crush’s Instagram post from three years ago? We can’t be the only ones who have ever sent a screenshot of a message… right back to the person we were texting.
Our media age offers a plethora of opportunities for personal embarrassment, but hey – at least we can watch everyone else’s awkward moments on YouTube. Take heart knowing that awkward moments have existed since the dawn of time, and occasionally running into a tree or putting our feet in our mouth only connects us and makes us human. Plus, they’re fun to laugh about!

National Supreme Sacrifice Day – March 18, 2022~U.S.
National Supreme Sacrifice Day, observed every year on March 18, is a day of commemoration. On this day, we honor those who sacrificed their lives for a good cause, no matter how small the cause might have been.
While not all of them have monuments built in their names, this day serves as a continuous reminder or metaphorical monument erected in their name. Any group or person can be celebrated on this day whether they are living or dead.
Their positive contributions to society or good deeds do not need to be recognized by a formal organization to be celebrated on this holiday.
HISTORY OF NATIONAL SUPREME SACRIFICE DAY There is no greater acclamation of love better than that of sacrifice. Men who served in wars are often widely respected and thanked by their countrymen, peers, friends, and . The celebration of such people in the community started in the early 1900s with Alfred Vanderbilt. Vanderbilt, a rich successor, known for his extravagant lifestyle and womanizing, boarded a ship with several other passengers.
The ship was wrecked at sea, leaving thousands in the ocean waiting for an untimely death. Vanderbilt decided to change the fate of the women and children of the wreck by leading them to lifeboats. In the end, he died saving these lives, becoming a hero in folk tales, being celebrated for his bravery.
This was the start of hero celebrations, however, the day was only officially named and dated in 2004. This holiday celebrates not only life-saving deeds but also plant and animal rescues. Nikolay Vavilov, a scientist from the Institute of Plant Industry, hungered during a 900-day raid siege of Leningrad in Russia. He and his counterparts refused to consume or harm endangered plants they were in charge of.
This eventually caused their death. This sacrifice did not go in vain as farmers worldwide reaped the benefits as species were allowed to multiply. This sacrifice also contributed greatly to developing more plants that withstand temperature and pests. The celebration of these individuals set in motion the day we now call National Supreme Sacrifice Day. This day also celebrates large groups of people throughout history.
One of them was the Eyam village in England that was the first to experience the effects of a plague. The people in the village voluntarily quarantined themselves to protect others in the country. Although the dated version of this holiday officially started on American soil, it is now celebrated by certain people and organizations in other parts of the world as well.

Holi – March 18, 2022~India~World
Holi, the festival of colors, is celebrated on March 18 and acquires a renowned spot in ancient Hindu festivals. The excitement of having vibrant colors scattered in the air is delightful. The two-day festival is a pleasant way of welcoming spring. All people, regardless of their age, take part in this event with enthusiasm and vigor. So let’s just grab our ‘gulal’ (colored powder thrown at each other as a symbol of joy and love) and celebrate the victory of good over evil.
HISTORY OF HOLI The name of this event comes from an intriguing tale of a vicious king and his determined son. Back in ancient times, it all started with the invincible evil king, Hiranyakashipu, who became arrogant and wanted to be worshiped by every person in the kingdom. However, his son Prahlad denied him and continued worshipping Lord Vishnu. This caused an immense wave of rage in the evil king, the consequences of which were suffered by Prahlad in the form of brutal punishments.
Despite all this, the strong belief of Prahlad enabled him to get through this cruelty and he kept praising Vishnu. Seeing his own defeat, Hiranyakashipu couldn’t control his anger and asked his sister Holika to sit on a pyre with Prahlad in her lap. Holika was known to be immune to fire but she didn’t know that it only worked if she entered the fire alone. Consequently, Holika was burnt to death, and Lord Vishnu saved Prahlad. The burning of Holika is celebrated as Holi. Because of the defeat of the evil king, Holi is also called ‘Victory of Good Over Evil.’
Another story linked with throwing colored powders on each other is the love story of Krishna and Radha. Krishna was poisoned as a baby by some demoness and turned a blue color. He fell in love with Radha and was worried that Radha would reject him because of his skin color. Krishna’s mother suggested that he playfully color Radha’s face with some colors. He did so, and Radha fell in love with him.
