World Puppetry Day – March 21, 2022~International
We celebrate World Puppetry Day on March 21 every year. This day aims to recognize puppetry as a global art form. It is also an attempt to pay tribute to and honor puppeteers from around the world. The World Puppetry Day was established in 2003 by UNIMA — Union Internationale de la Marionnette. UNIMA is a non-governmental organization affiliated with UNESCO and it was their initiative to use this day not only to promote puppetry arts but also to create a space for the puppet actors to come together. This day seeks to maintain and safeguard the traditions of the art of puppetry.
HISTORY OF WORLD PUPPETRY DAY Historians claim that puppets were born before theatre actors. Even before putting actual people on stage, these inanimate actors were doing a great job of entertaining a wide range of audiences from different parts of the world.
In India, the origin of puppetry was traced back to the Indus Valley Civilization in 2500 B.C. Archaeologists had found a terracotta doll with a detachable head capable of being manipulated by a string. Many Indian Classical texts like the “Ramayana” and “Mahabharata” also mention puppets. China, Japan, and Taiwan also had their versions of puppetry.
In ancient Greece, old written records found in the works of Herodotus and Xenophon state that puppetry was in practice since the 5th century B.C. These Greek plays had puppetry shows performed in front of the common people and European puppetry was inspired by this. There is also archaeological evidence of puppets in Egypt in 2000 B.C. During this period, figures of wood operated by string by humans to demonstrate the actions such as kneading bread.
In the 16th century, the traditional British “Punch and Judy” puppetry originated from the Italian commedia dell’arte (an earlier theatre form). This show became very popular among the masses and was performed with various alterations till the 19th century.
In 1929, the Union Internationale de la Marionnette (UNIMA), or International Puppetry Association, was established in Prague. This organization was made to spark a resurgence of puppetry and help puppeteers show off their art form and connect with other like-minded artists. UNIMA centers have since been created in several parts of the world.

World Poetry Day – March 21, 2022~World
“How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.” — Writer Elizabeth Barrett Browning dedicated this iconic poem to her husband Robert Browning but her famous sonnet could just as easily declare love for poetry itself. We can all do that on World Poetry Day, on March 21. The United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) founded this day in 1999. Poetry uses rhythms and imagery to elicit emotion and the imagination of the reader. Poetry can rhyme, using what are called meters of long and short syllables. Some poetry, written in what’s called ‘free verse,’ doesn’t employ rhyme or meters. Poems are broken into stanzas, which are like paragraphs, and can be up to 12 lines long. We believe the first known poem appeared 4,000 years ago in Babylon. Today, countless types of poems are available to enjoy, including haikus, limericks, sonnets, and ballads.
HISTORY OF WORLD POETRY DAY Poetry is a beautiful form of expression. No other type of literature creates such a plethora of feelings and emotions as the abstraction of poetry. The earliest poetry is believed to have surfaced with the “Epic of Gilgamesh” some time during 2000 B.C., but it is likely that poetry existed even before the spread of literacy. Different types of poetry have trended during different eras, and undergone transformations. From sonnets to rap lyrics, the core purpose of poetry remains the same — to explore the human condition and invoke emotion through words. Poetry resonates with the existential dilemmas of mankind, exhuming ideas from deep within.
World Poetry Day is celebrated every year on March 21, celebrating a linguistic expression that people from all cultures can identify with. Poetry can be found in the history of every nation, and brings us together under shared values and common humanity. The most basic of poems have the power to stir dialogue.
The day was proposed and adopted by UNESCO in 1999, on the occasion of its 30th General Conference held in Paris to “give fresh recognition and impetus to national, regional and international poetry movements.” The organization hoped to inspire the celebration of poetry all over the world, preserve endangered languages, and stimulate poetic expression through this day. Poets, both past and present, are honored, and oral traditions of reciting poetry are revived. Reading, writing, and teaching poetry are encouraged, and converged with other mediums of expression such as music, dance, painting, and more.

National Single Parent Day – March 21, 2022~U.S.
On National Single Parent Day this March 21, single parents get to take a break from constantly holding down the fort! Kick your feet up, get a babysitter, and think about all you do for your children. If you have support that’s not a partner, take some extra time to appreciate them and their help. If you’re not a single parent, show some love for your friends or that are taking on the mammoth task of raising children by themselves.
HISTORY OF NATIONAL SINGLE PARENT DAY The number of single parents and causes for single parenting have changed greatly over the years. In ancient times, when medical science was not advanced, dangerous accidents frequently occurred, and epidemics spread through under-developed villages. As such, it was very common for children to have lost one or both parents by the time they reached adulthood. From an assumed statistic in the 17th and 18th centuries, it was estimated that ⅓ of all children growing up in villages in France or Spain had lost a parent.
While much of the causes for being a single parent was related to disease, war, or maternal death in childbirth in earlier times, this has shifted over the years. As divorce increasingly became an option for unhappy couples, single parents are now less often widowers and more often divorcees. However, with divorce, single parenting becomes complicated, as achieving full custody and becoming a single parent often involves lengthy and difficult court proceedings. Although many split custody, they are still considered single parents.
There are other ways of becoming a single parent, which have varied in prevalence over the years. For example, single-parent adoptions became available in the 19th century, and this has remained a reliable way, for women particularly, to be a single parent. In some countries, only women are allowed to adopt children as a single parent.
Today, there is a great range in the causes and prevalence of single parenting. In 2008, one study found that 30% of households with children were headed by a single parent, which is an increase from 1980 when this statistic was only at 10%. There has also been a significant disparity based on race noted among single-parent households — white and Hispanic single parent percentages are currently on the rise. According to a survey in 2011, an average of 7.5% of households are headed by a single parent.

National French Bread Day – March 21, 2022~U.S.
French bread can trace its start to a rather unlikely set of circumstances. Thanks to a law passed in 1920 that prohibited bakers from working before 4 a.m., morning commuters needed a new type of bread. Voila! The French bread was born. Lucky for you, National French Bread Day, held annually on March 21, is the perfect opportunity to indulge in this unique bread that is characteristically crunchy on the outside and delectably doughy on the inside.

National Crunchy Taco Day – March 21, 2022~U.S.
This is not for the soft hearted by any means. Today is for the rough, rugged and crunchy. That’s right folks — March 21 is National Crunchy Taco Day — the most talked about event since the reveal of Michelangelo's “David” sculpture. Celebrate with us.
NATIONAL CRUNCHY TACO DAY ACTIVITIES
Taco party We know, you saw that one coming. What better way to celebrate? Invite your friends over for a night of cooking tacos from scratch. Ask your best pals to break out their recipes and join you for a night of fun. Dice up those tomatoes, open your cans of cerveza, and have an amazing dinner with your closest compadres.
White (taco) elephant As you've suspected, this day is the equivalent of Christmas Eve. Celebrate by gifting a pair of perfectly crunchy tacos to your , friends or coworkers. You won't need a gift receipt, we swear.
Try a new restaurant Take this opportunity to explore new restaurants for the first time. Maybe that place you pass by on your way home from the gym, or that taco spot you read about on Thrillist.com. have fun with it! Invite your crush to dinner and order a variety of tacos. Have fun!
WHY WE LOVE NATIONAL CRUNCHY TACO DAY
1-Tacos are healthier than most protein bars According to recent studies, tacos contain 21% protein, 24% carbs and 12% fat, versus a Fiber bar's 15% of protein, 7% of carbs and 18% of fat. Orale!
2-Sometimes you need a crunchy challenge We live in a world full of tortilla-based foods like quesadillas, burritos, tortilla soup, and enchiladas. What about the deliciously-crafted-crunchy-shell tacos? It is time to give credit, where credit is due. After all, if St. Valentine got his own day, there should definitely be at least 24 hours for the legends known as crunchy tacos.
3-Do we really need a third reason? Let me paint a picture for you. Imagine a fresh batch of hot, spicy, cheesy, meaty, seasoned to perfection, sour creamy, guacamole-y, crunchy tacos with a variety of salsas on the side. Check your pulse if that doesn't sound like paradise to you. Need I say more?

joybelle Harmony Day – March 21, 2022~Australia
We come together to celebrate Harmony Day on 21 March. Created in 1999 to celebrate unity and diversity, Harmony Day was originally an Australian celebration but is now marked worldwide by conscientious citizens. Whether you want to be better friends with your neighbors or stand in the shoes of another, we’ve got some harmonious habits and unifying ideas to make your Harmony Day a picture of peace.
HISTORY OF HARMONY DAY Harmony Day was first celebrated in Australia in 1999, but its roots go back hundreds of years. In 2017, researchers published evidence in the journal “Nature” that the ancestors of Aboriginal Australians landed there from Southeast Asia about 65,000 years ago. No one knows exactly how they got there, and although the distance was shorter than it is today due to large expanses of frozen water, some speculate that they still had to undertake a sea voyage of at least 45 miles, perhaps, according to the Australian Museum, in rafts made of bamboo! These first settlers were the original indigenous Australians and lived in harmony with the land for centuries.
Then, in 1788, the British Empire reached Australia, landing at Botany Bay to establish a penal colony of exiled prisoners. The British used the Australian land to replicate their own Western civilization, a culture that did not work in harmony with that of the indigenous peoples of Australia and resulted in a mass slaughter of the people who had occupied the land for hundreds of years.
As a result, as the nation grew, Australia (like many countries) was a divided society. In the late 20th century, despite the legislation enshrining equal rights for all, many people still suffered from racist attacks. In 1998, after activists condemned the country for persistently turning a blind eye to its racism, the Australian government commissioned a study into the nature of racism over the last decade. The study highlighted a greater need for people to ‘live in harmony’ and, as a result, Harmony Day was created to encourage everyone to respect each other and appreciate the country’s multicultural background.
Whilst Harmony Day is still predominantly an Australian holiday, people celebrate it worldwide by reflecting on the ways they can live in harmony with their neighbors, regardless of their background or circumstances. The communities themselves choose how they wish to celebrate, with over 55,000 Harmony Day events held since the celebration’s birth.

National Fragrance Day – March 21, 2022~U.S.
Fragrance has always played an important role throughout history—royalty flaunted it, business empires were changed by it (hello, Chanel), and with just one whiff, a certain fragrance can transport you back in time to a childhood memory, remind you of a person in your life that you love, or, well, someone you loathe. So on March 21, celebrate your love of all things fragrant with National Fragrance Day.

National Introverts Week – March 21-27, 2022~U.S.
National Introverts Week is celebrated during the third full week of March each year and takes place from March 21 to 27 this year. The week was founded by Matthew Pollard — author of the book “The Introvert’s Edge” and host of a podcast by the same name. It was founded to appreciate introverts all over the world for their qualities and to encourage them to stand proud in their identities, rather than comparing themselves to extroverts. It is not only extroverts who get ahead in life and reap all the benefits, so it’s high time that the many stereotypes around introverts be smashed and the record set straight. And what better way to do this than by celebrating introverts for an entire week!
HISTORY OF NATIONAL INTROVERTS WEEK Though it is not known when exactly National Introverts Week was officiated (some sources say as recently as 2018), we do know who founded it and why. Author and podcast host, Matthew Pollard, is the person to thank for the idea of having a week to celebrate introverts. Pollard’s motive was to encourage introverts from all around the world to be proud of who they are. There is still a lot of stigma surrounding introversion and how introverted people are perceived in society, so it is important to engage and dialogue with these issues as well.
People tend to make blanket generalizations about the kind of people introverts and extroverts are, which in turn dictate societal expectations of them. This kind of categorizing is unfair and exclusionary since every individual is unique — personality traits and all. When talking about the history of introversion, we cannot avoid going back to the history of psychoanalysis itself, as personality tests have stemmed from this field. It was back in 1921 that the terms ‘introversion’ and ‘extraversion’ were popularized as personality traits, by Swiss psychologist, Carl Jung.
According to Jung, introverts direct their energy inwards, while extroverts direct theirs outwards. This binary has now been dismissed as being over-simplistic since introversion and extraversion are now more of a spectrum upon which people find themselves (hence the term ‘ambivert’ now exists). One of the first psychologists to develop an assessment of personality traits was Hans Eysenck, who, together with his wife, developed the Eysenck Personality Questionnaire. Thanks to these contributions, we now have a world of research that exists on personality types.

National Ag Day – March 22, 2022~U.S.
We believe that food is for everyone! National Agriculture Day is celebrated on March 22 this year, during Agriculture Week. Everything we eat, use, or wear every day is provided by agriculture. Most people don’t understand the contribution of agriculture to our lives. To know more about how we are agriculture is directed towards our health and lifestyle read the top agriculture journalist story. So today we are celebrating agriculture and thanking all the people who work hard to feed the world, look after crops and livestock, and contribute to agricultural production.
HISTORY OF NATIONAL AG DAY Almost all of us take agriculture for granted. National Ag Day is arranged by the Agriculture Council of America. This is a non-profit organization that comprises all the leaders in the agriculture and food community. This day is observed to honor the efforts of people related to agriculture and promote awareness about these efforts amongst people.
It is that day of the year when all the producers, agriculture organizations, universities, corporations, and government departments take out some time to recognize the greatness of agriculture.
National Ag Day was founded by the Agriculture Council of America in 1973. The first National Ag Day was celebrated by the ACA in 1979. Since then the ACA has put efforts into creating awareness about the role of agriculture in modern society. So even if we are not involved in agriculture, we should learn about how our food and fiber are produced, as well as how agriculture provides us with safe, abundant, and useful products. Another important thing that agriculture provides us with is employment opportunities. Therefore, we should also acknowledge the career opportunities in the field of agriculture.

Bavarian Crepes Day – March 22, 2022~U.S.
National Bavarian Crepes Day is celebrated every year on March 22. Did you know that a Bavarian crepe from Bavaria is called a ‘palatschinke’? This food holiday is celebrated each year to enjoy and honor Bavarian crepes. It’s time for you to start baking some mouthwatering Bavarian crepes on this festive day!
HISTORY OF BAVARIAN CREPES DAY A Bavarian crepe is a tempting, pancake-like dessert, which is made from buckwheat flour or wheat flour. It is usually filled with Bavarian cream and is then topped with fruits, glaze, chocolate, and whipped cream. Doesn’t it sound delicious?
Bavarian Crepes are popular in Central and Eastern Europe, these crepes are almost similar to French crepes (thin pancakes). The history of crepes dates back to the 13th century.
The name ‘palatschinke’ comes from the Latin word ‘placenta,’ which is derived from the Greek word ‘plakous,’ meaning ‘flatbread.’ Bavarian crepes got their name during the ancient Roman era in Central Europe.
Crepes originated from France but, back then, crepes were mostly consumed as bread. The reason behind the popularity of Bavarian crepes is because they are generously filled with rich Bavarian cream. A few food historians state that Bavarian cream was introduced in Bavaria by a French chef living there.
Although there is no proof of where the Bavarian crepe filling was first created, what we know for sure is that Bavarian cream recipes that were found in the 1800s, around the time of French chef Marie-Antoine Carême, were written in the French Language.
Bavarian crepes are a fantastic snack or breakfast meal for all sweet lovers! There are several recipes for making the perfect crispy crepes and there are also so many other ingredients that you can have them with.
People around the U.S. celebrate National Bavarian Crepes Day to enjoy crepes with the people they love while indulging their sweet tooths.

Daffodil Day – March 22, 2022~U.S.
Daffodil Days, usually held in March, raise funds and awareness for cancer using this cheerful symbol. Cancer kills more than 600,000 Americans each year and affects countless lives. Since the 1950s, the daffodil has served as a symbol of hope and resilience in the face of cancer. The bright flower represents the hard work done by researchers and doctors working to find a cure and improve treatment for cancer of all types. Beginning with the Canadian Cancer Society, cancer research organizations around the world have used the daffodil as an emblem of hope and resilience in the face of disease.
HISTORY OF DAFFODIL DAY Cancer refers to a group of related diseases in which the body’s cells start to divide uncontrollably, spreading into surrounding tissue and causing damage. Cancer can occur in almost any part of the body. When cells multiply without stopping, they can form growths, or what we know as tumors. Malignant tumors, those that spread into the rest of the body, pose a danger as they overtake the normal functions of organs. Nearly four in 10 people will receive a cancer diagnosis at some point in their lives, so it’s important for everyone to be aware of the potential risks and preventive measures.
The Canadian Cancer Society first started using daffodils, the first flower of spring, as a symbol at their events in 1956, when volunteers handed out the brightly colored flowers to raise awareness. “Daffodil Days” became a popular fundraiser, with volunteers selling daffodils to raise funds for cancer research. Since then, other organizations including the American Cancer Society have also adopted the daffodil as a totem. Advocates use Daffodil Days as a chance to spread awareness about cancer and help people live longer and healthier lives.
In 2021, the American Cancer Society held their Daffodil Days in February, when people could purchase bunches of daffodils for themselves or as gifts for cancer patients in hospitals and treatment centers. The flowers were delivered at the end of March. The American Cancer Society works to provide information to cancer patients, fund research for the development of life-saving medicines and procedures, pass legislation that improves access to care, and advocate for cancer patients and their families in many more ways.

As Young As You Feel Day – March 22, 2022~U.S.
We celebrate As Young As You Feel Day on March 22 every year. When they said “Age is just a number,” it wasn’t a lie after all. It doesn’t matter how old you are. Feeling young is a state of mind. No matter your age, no one can stop you from feeling young and alive. You can be a senior citizen, someone who has recently turned 40, or even a kid. Every single person gets to celebrate this day and their youthfulness. It is all about believing that you are as young as you feel. Your actual age does not matter.
HISTORY OF AS YOUNG AS YOU FEEL DAY Since time immemorial, there have been efforts recorded of people trying to beat aging and feel young again. Before anti-aging creams, pills, and surgeries, many other forms of remedies were invented to stop the age clock. Many scientists also believe that age has nothing to do with how young we look or feel. People age differently and their bodies go through various changes that are unique to them. Even before As Young As You Feel Day came into being, people have been trying to rewind time and feel youthful again.
Around 69 B.C., Cleopatra used to take daily baths in donkey milk to make sure her skin remained soft and young. This skincare routine required a stable consisting of at least 700 donkeys.
In 1513, the Spanish explorer Juan Ponce de Leon went on a voyage in search of the fountain of youth. This was a legendary fountain that apparently could bring an individual back from old age. The fountain promised eternal life and everlasting youth. The explorer was unsuccessful in his attempt to locate the fountain because instead of finding the fountain of youth, he discovered Florida instead.
The women in the Elizabethan era also did not grow old without a fight — they placed thin slices of raw meat on their faces to reduce wrinkles. It was believed that the meat would help tighten the skin and thus keep it from sagging.
On noticing frown lines on her daughter Alice’s face, Margaret Kroesen developed Frownies in 1889. These were adhesive patches that held the skin taut to smooth wrinkles.

American Diabetes Association Alert Day – March 22, 2022~U.S.
American Diabetes Association Alert Day, observed every fourth Tuesday of March and taking place on March 22 this year, is a part of a movement to create awareness about the ‘silent killer’ that more than 34.2 million Americans are at risk of. Did you know that diabetes mellitus is the primary causative agent of more than nine other serious health complications? Come, join us as we wave a red flag on this day to alert Americans about the potential lethality of this disease.
HISTORY OF AMERICAN DIABETES ASSOCIATION ALERT DAY Unawareness about diabetes is an epidemic in the United States. A survey conducted by the American Diabetes Association (ADA) revealed that around 68% of people did not know that diabetes is closely related to heart diseases, and that stroke is a serious threat to human life. If that isn’t bad enough, it went on to reveal that about 25% of the diabetic population do not even know they have the disease.
The American Diabetes Association, a non-profit organization, was founded in 1940 by six physicians. Together, they strived for one mission alone: educating the masses in the United States about all types of diabetes and helping those affected by it. The organization works to prevent, manage, and cure diabetes with awareness programs, delivering services to communities, and funding research. It receives donations from foundations, companies, and individuals and operates as three different types of categorized organizations — American Diabetes Association (ADA), American Diabetes Association Research Foundation, Inc. (ADARF), and American Diabetes Association Property Title Holding Corp. (ADARTHC).
The ADA created Alert Day as a part of its preventive measures in 1986. Introduced with the vision of dedicating one full day to spread awareness and encourage contribution, the American Diabetes Association Alert Day, observed annually in March, tells the public every year that diabetes ranks as the seventh leading cause of death in the U.S.

National Tamale Day – March 23, 2022~U.S.
We celebrate National Tamale Day on March 23 every year. It is a day where all kinds of tamales are appreciated — from the meat-filled ones to the cheesy ones. Tamales are a traditional Latin American dish that is made using corn dough, called masa, and a variety of fillings. The corn dough forms the outer pocket and the fillings make up the soft bit inside the pocket. Each tamale is wrapped in a corn husk or a banana leaf and is usually steamed or boiled before eating. One bite into it, and you can taste the pillowy taste of corn mingling with the delicious fillings.
HISTORY OF NATIONAL TAMALE DAY Tamales originated in 7000 B.C. They were first introduced in the Aztec empire. All those years ago, corn had not been discovered yet. The outer layer was called ‘teocintle,’ the precursor to modern maize. The ‘teocintle’ was popular for its sweet-tasting stalks. Once it was pollinated by the natives, the sweet and juicy corn was discovered inside. This was not the same as the modern corn we consume today.
In 1612, Captain John Smith claimed that tamales were made by Native Americans belonging to Virginia. He went on to talk about the process he had seen of making tamales, “Their corne they rost in the eare greene, and bruising it in a mortar of wood with a Polt; lappe it in rowles in the leaves of their corne, and so boyle it for a daintie.”
In the 1800s, the Mexican bourgeoisie began to associate the word “tamal” with poverty. This food dish was looked down upon by the upper classes due to its wide availability and for being a reason for ill health in peasants. The Mexican revolution caused an overturn of judgment when the bourgeoisie class sentiments were wiped out and the tamal was reborn as the symbol of Mexican cuisine.
In the 19th century, tamales traveled across the border into the U.S. and became very popular in America. The big Spanish-speaking communities in places like California, Texas, and Arizona had put up tamale stands everywhere. Tamales were all over the streets of Los Angeles to the point that the government had to fight to remove their spread. The locals had already fallen in love with this delightful dish however and such attacks on Mexican culture and cuisine were not tolerated.
