National Peking Duck Day – January 18, 2022~U.S.
National Peking Duck Day is celebrated every year on January 18 to recognize the national dish of China. The process of preparing Peking duck is rooted in tradition that has been perfected over thousands of years since the Yuan Dynasty was established by Kublai Khan. Today, you don’t have to travel all the way to China to taste Peking duck – it’s readily available in Chinese restaurants across the world. The trademark of a well-done Peking duck is its crispy, flavorful skin.
HISTORY OF NATIONAL PEKING DUCK DAY No one knows when the first National Peking Duck Day was celebrated or who started it, but given the popularity of this dish amongst foodies, it’s no surprise that people have unanimously continued to celebrate it. Despite its simple appearance, the preparation of the Peking duck is quite elaborate. The recipe is ancient and dates back to the Yuan Dynasty since it was established by Kublai Khan. As is true with all recipes, the preparation for Peking duck has evolved throughout the years.
The White Beijing duck, or Peking duck, is the bird that is traditionally roasted for this meal. The duck is butchered once it is 65 days old, plucked, pumped full of air between the skin and the meat, soaked in boiling water, and skewered. It is then hung to dry, glazed with sugar coating, and left for 24 hours, to achieve that perfectly crispy skin. The bird is roasted, hanging from the center of the oven to allow the fat to drip, basting the skin as it does. After which the Peking duck is often sliced artfully by the chef before being served. The traditional Peking duck meal begins with a serving of the crispy skin and a sugar dip. Next, thin pancakes are filled with tender duck meat, hoisin and bean sauces, cucumbers, onions, and garlic. Finally, the duck soup is usually made with the leftover bones — the neck, wing joints, and feet.

National Gourmet Coffee Day – January 18, 2022~U.S.
National Gourmet Coffee Day is celebrated on January 18 every year. While all kinds of coffee are what dreams are made of, gourmet coffee is something exceptional. The quality and consistency of gourmet coffee are distinct from your regular cup of Joe and the secret lies in its beans and creation.
HISTORY OF NATIONAL GOURMET COFFEE DAY There is no specific origin of coffee that can be pinpointed. Coffee’s past is shrouded in legend and theory, but one thing is certain — it has been around for centuries. It is believed that the ancestors of today’s Oromo people in Ethiopia’s Jimma region were the first to notice the coffee plant’s energizing power. However, there is no definitive evidence that coffee was initially grown before the 15th century, or even where it was first cultivated.
There is evidence of either coffee consumption or knowledge of the coffee tree in Yemeni Sufi monasteries dating back to the early 16th century, which swiftly spread to Mecca and Medina. By the 16th century, it had spread across the Middle East, South India (Karnataka), Persia, Turkey, and northern Africa. Coffee then expanded throughout the Balkans, Italy, Europe, and Southeast Asia. With its ability to provide instant energy, coffee has quickly conquered areas of the world and hearts since then. A simple cup of coffee evolved over time to suit various palates and purposes. From frappuccinos and cold brews to espresso shots and even espresso martinis, you can now find coffee anywhere and everywhere and however, you like.
This is how gourmet coffee came into being. Gourmet coffee is made using 100% Arabica beans. These require a cool subtropical climate at a higher altitude to thrive and provide smooth, powerful, and aromatic brews that normal beans simply cannot match. It is a must-try for coffee enthusiasts since it is more luxurious than the typical coffee in terms of taste, production, and intensity. National Gourmet Coffee Day is a celebration of this caffeine celebrity, and we applaud it!

Mahayana New Year – January 18, 2022~International
Mahayana New Year is celebrated this year on January 18 by Buddhists around the world. The term Mahayana encompasses Buddhist ideologies and philosophies. Mahayana is one of the two main branches of Buddhism and is mostly practiced in Northeast Asia — China, Japan, Tibet, Taiwan, Mongolia, and Korea. Each region has its own customs and traditions for practicing Mahayana Buddhism.
HISTORY OF MAHAYANA NEW YEAR In English, Mahayana means ‘Great Vehicle.’ This can be interpreted in different ways by devout followers of Buddhism. The Mahayana branch of the religion is practiced around the world.
The belief of Mahayana Buddhists is that enlightenment or eternal Nirvana can be achieved during the course of an individual’s life. This state of enlightenment is not only attainable by monks, but by regular Buddhist practitioners too. The ultimate goal is for everyone to make use of the opportunity of enlightenment.
The Mahayana New Year dates differ for each country based on their customs and traditions. While some Mahayana Buddhists observe the celebration on January 1 alongside the Gregorian New Year, others wait for the full moon of January. The celebration is marked with extensive prayer and honoring the Buddhism gods. Statues of the gods are also shown respect by bathing them. Temples are visited on the Buddhist New Year, and songs of spirituality are sung to the deities. Candles are also lit as a symbol of happiness and luck for the new year.
The Buddhist New Year is also a time for internalizing and self-reflection. Lessons from past mistakes are learned, and the goal is to become a better version of yourself. Good luck is also enhanced by cleaning and decorating homes and by buying gifts for others. The celebration is not a dull one, with grand feasts hosted and fireworks at midnight.

Week of Prayer for Christian Unity – January 18-25, 2022~World
Devout Christians in the Northern Hemisphere celebrate Week of Prayer for Christian Unity every year from January 18 to January 25. During this week, Christians are reminded of Jesus’s prayer for his disciples and everyone’s well-being. Christians remember Jesus’s devotion and come together to pray for their unity. Churches exchange or invite non-denominational preachers to share general sermons at special services. Roman Catholic representatives refine the liturgical text to ensure that it can be prayed around the world, to encourage unity among churches and their followers.
HISTORY OF WEEK OF PRAYER FOR CHRISTIAN UNITY In 1908, there was the Octave of Christian Unity which focused on praying for church unity, and whose dates were put forward by Father Paul Wattson. He chose the week beginning on the Feast of the Confession of Saint Peter on January 18, concluding with the Feast of the Conversion of Saint Paul on 25 January. Pope Pius X approved the concept and Benedict XV encouraged its observance throughout the Roman Catholic Church. In the 1920s, the Protestants proposed their own octave of prayer for unity to occur during the week of Pentecost every year.
In 1941, the Faith and Order Conference changed the date to the one observed by Catholics, from January 18 to 25. The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity gained worldwide recognition among churches when the World Council of Churches was established in 1948. By 1958, the French Catholic group Unité Chrétienne, and the Faith and Order Commission of the World Council of Churches, began co-operative preparation of materials for the Week of Prayer.
In 1968, churches used notes and texts created through the joint effort of the Faith and Order Commission and the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity officially for the first time. The cooperation between these two organizations has grown since, resulting in joint publications in the same format, said to represent the entire Catholic Church.

World Quark Day – January 19, 2022~World
World Quark Day is on January 19, a special day set aside to celebrate the delicious cheese known as quark – sometimes spelled ‘quarg.’ It’s mild, creamy, and much better for your health than regular cheese, so what’s not to like? Quark is an incredibly versatile food and ingredient that you can throw into sweet and savory recipes in place of cheese. It goes well with just about everything and is perfectly delicious eaten on its own too.
HISTORY OF WORLD QUARK DAY Quark, or quarg, translates to ‘curd cheese.’ Depending on what part of Europe you’re in, it may not even be considered cheese at all. No matter what it’s called, quark is a mild, creamy, and delicious cheese-like food. The flavor and texture are very similar to the Fromage blanc from France, or the paneer from India. But unlike similar South Asian cheeses that use yogurt, quark is made out of soured milk and fermented.
While some preparations of quark can have fat content up to 40%, for the most part, quark has a very low-fat percentage of around 10%. This low-fat content makes it an incredibly healthy replacement for regular American cheese spread. Protein makes up the rest of the quark, a fantastic source of protein for vegetarians. It has about 3.5% protein per mass, which is double the amount of protein in Greek yogurt.
The Queen of Quark is a German woman whose name is unknown. She lives in Bavaria and is a quark enthusiast. A huge fan of healthy eating and good diets, the Queen of Quark decided to celebrate World Quark Day so more people could get to know about this European superfood. She has written a cookbook with many recipes and teamed up with a New York farm to celebrate and share her love of quark with America.
Quark can be made at home by heating some buttermilk, or a mixture of buttermilk and milk, to 200 degrees in a slow cooker and leaving it for a couple of hours. Then you switch off the gas and leave the milk to ferment overnight. Next, sieve the curds through cheesecloth and let it hang for a couple of hours, and you’ll have your fresh quark!

Tenderness Toward Existence Day – January 19, 2022~U.S.
Tenderness Toward Existence Day is celebrated on January 19 every year. It is a special day to celebrate the quiet feeling of warmth, joy, and connection with all creatures on this beautiful planet we call home. There are 7.9 billion people who live on Earth, and we all share our home with over 8.7 million other species. Every single one of these species is unique and plays an important role in their environment. All creatures are dependent on each other, and we are dependent on them. Every life has value, and that value is what we celebrate on this day.
HISTORY OF TENDERNESS TOWARD EXISTENCE DAY Tenderness Toward Existence Day is not a very old holiday. It was instituted in the 2000s and has been celebrated on January 19 ever since. It is not the kind of holiday that’s talked about in the news. It is a quieter, more personal celebration of humanity’s connection with all living beings. We must recognize we are not alone on this planet, and we cannot survive alone. It is a great day to acknowledge that every life has value. ‘Existence’ simply means ‘life,’ ‘the state of living,’ from the Latin words ‘ex’ and ‘sistere,’ which mean ‘out’ and ‘to take a stand’ respectively. Tenderness means ‘sensitivity to pain,’ so we can say in essence that this holiday is about a sensitivity to the pain of every living thing.
With the rapid acceleration in human development, thousands and thousands of species of animals are going extinct every year. Human activity is solely responsible for this. Apart from poaching and the destruction of habitats, human beings are also responsible for killing their own kind. Millions of people are casualties of war, they suffer from hunger and poverty. Additionally, people suffer depression and other mental illnesses. This day is an important opportunity to acknowledge the suffering of all such people and extend a hand to help.
Humanity is capable of great compassion. As individuals, we all have the capacity for sympathy and empathy, to feel deeply for the creatures around us, for other people, and ourselves. This sense of deep affection, connection, and a desire to care for all living beings is what is expressed as tenderness. This is our greatest strength as a species and will be the key to our survival. Only if we let ourselves feel this tenderness, feel the need to look after the creatures of this planet, and care for them as we care for our own families, will we stop climate change and mass extinction.

National Tin Can Day – January 19, 2022~U.S.
National Tin Can Day is every January 19 and is a day dedicated to the humble tin can that preserves some of our favorite food items. Without tin cans, the process of storage and preservation would have been entirely different and less convenient. The best thing about canned food is that it is accessible to people from all walks of life. Over the years, various countries around the globe have made their contributions to the evolution of tin cans. The fact that this storage item has been used for over a century is proof of its worth. It sure deserves to be celebrated!
HISTORY OF NATIONAL TIN CAN DAY The history of the establishment of the holiday is unknown, but the story behind the invention of tin cans is quite interesting. The credit for this revolutionary idea of storing food goes to a number of people. While it was the Northumbrian developer Bryan Donkin who first built a commercial canning factory, Peter Durand eventually succeeded in receiving the first patent for tin cans. Before them, it was Nicolas Appert who had earned the moniker ‘father of canning’ after he came up with the method of sterilization to store food for Napoleon’s army at war.
In 1818, Durand introduced tin-plated steel cans in the U.S., and it has been in vogue ever since. A year later, Ezra Daggett and Thomas Kensett Sr. of England started canning food items such as fruits, vegetables, meats, and oysters, in New York. As tin cans were initially thick with no provision for opening them, a rock, bayonet, or hammer and chisel, did the job for decades. It wasn’t until 1858 that Ezra Warner invented the first can opener. It was used by the U.S. military during the Civil War.
They started as a tool to preserve food supplies for soldiers at war, but now, tin cans have become a staple container in kitchen cupboards, refrigerators, and pantries. Who could say no to this portable and affordable product filled with easy-to-cook delicacies?

National Popcorn Day – January 19, 2022~U.S.
Join us on January 19 as we celebrate National Popcorn Day! Buttered, salted, kettled, drizzled with caramel, popcorn is one of those snacks perfect anytime, anywhere. It’s great on the go, in the theater, or in your living room! Just be prepared to dig some of it out of your teeth.
HISTORY OF NATIONAL POPCORN DAY Did you know that the corn we eat and the corn we pop are two different varieties of maize? In fact, the corn you’d find on your dinner table is most likely unable to pop at all! Only one variety of corn is able to become popcorn: Zea mays everta. This particular corn variety has small ears, and the kernels burst when exposed to dry heat.
In 1948, small heads of Zea mays everta were discovered by Herbert Dick and Earle Smith in the Bat Cave of west central New Mexico. Ranging from smaller than a penny to about two inches, the oldest Bat Cave ears were about 4,000 years old. Several individually popped kernels were also discovered, which have since been carbon dated and shown to be approximately 5,600 years old. There’s also evidence of early use of popcorn in Peru, Mexico, and Guatemala, as well as other places in Central and South America.
Aztecs used popcorn to decorate their clothes, create ceremonial embellishments, and also for nourishment. Native Americans have also been found to consume and utilize popcorn in their day to day lives. In a cave in Utah, thought to be inhabited by Pueblo Native Americans, popcorn has been found that dates back to over 1,000 years ago. French explorers who traveled to the new world discovered popcorn being made by the Iroquois Natives in the Great Lakes region. As colonists moved around North America, and as the USA came to be, many people adopted popcorn as a popular and healthy snack.

Museum Selfie Day – January 19, 2022~U.S.
Started by London blogger Mar Dixon, the Museum Selfie Day trend has gone worldwide and spawned a plethora of creative posts on social media ever since. Museums, archaic by nature, have always moved slowly to adopt new rules. Their “no photography” signs were implemented to discourage flash pictures, which degrade the quality of conserved works. But in today’s world of high-sensitivity smartphone cameras, many more museums are relaxing their rules on photography in an effort to encourage more engagement with the public. Museum Selfie Day on January 19 is the perfect opportunity for people to get creative.

Gun Appreciation Day – January 19, 2022~U.S.
Gun Appreciation Day is observed on January 19 every year across the U.S. The holiday originally started as a protest against potential gun control measures, but like all special days, how this day is observed is up to the people. Guns are powerful machines that need to be treated with respect and handled with care. Gun Appreciation Day is a great way to discuss how to look after guns. Many accidental gun deaths can be prevented by knowing how to handle and store guns safely, away from the reach of children.
HISTORY OF GUN APPRECIATION DAY Guns have a long history around the world. A weapon close to a gun was first produced in the 1800s and was further developed over the two World Wars into the guns we recognize today. There are a lot of different types: military guns, handguns, hunting guns, machine guns, autocannons, artillery guns, tank guns, rescue equipment like flare guns, entertainment guns like nerf guns, and energy guns. Each of these guns is a weapon that must be treated respectfully.
Guns have played an important role in the development of America. The Revolutionary War was the crux that defined the country’s attitudes towards guns, where they were seen to be necessary for the country’s freedom and future. Until the 1800s, there was a standing militia instead of an army. This militia was once drafted, but it later became voluntary to join. Guns became important symbols of the country’s growth, especially the development of the Wild West.
In the 2000s, there was a growing movement for gun control measures because of the multiple shootouts in the country. Gun owners were worried about the lack of measures in place to ensure that these weapons were handled with the respect they deserved. Other people began to worry that the rules would take things too far and organized Gun Appreciation Day as a protest against the gun control movement. Since then, this day has been observed in different ways by the American public, the most important being to respect gun owners and guns, ensuring that they are kept and used safely.

Good Memory Day – January 19, 2022~U.S.
Good Memory Day is observed on January 19 every year, to cherish good moments from our past and present while making new ones for the future. On this holiday, we love to scroll through old photo albums and share a good laugh over a funny memory. As the name suggests, this day is also the perfect occasion to test how good your memory is. Come up with a memory game based on major childhood events and have a memorable day. Plan a fun day out with your , or make that pending call to your best friend today.
HISTORY OF GOOD MEMORY DAY Human memory has been a topic of study since the time of Aristotle. The earliest attempts to understand memory are found in Aristotle’s treatise, “On the Soul.” He was the first individual to compare the human mind to a blank slate and advocated that human beings are a total of their experiences. Later, English empiricist John Locke popularized this idea and coined the term ‘tabula rasa.’ In the mid-1880s, German philosopher Herman Ebbinghaus studied memory from a scientific point of view. He conducted several experiments, using lists of nonsense syllables to form meaningful words. Based on his work, he classified memory into three types: sensory, short-term, and long-term. Ebbinghaus is also behind the concepts of the learning curve and forgetting curve.
In 1904, Richard Semon proposed the idea that human experience leaves a physical trace on our brain’s neurons. This is called an engram or memory trace. American psychologist Karl Lashley experimented on rats in mazes to find out that memories are scattered all across the brain. According to a recent study, the brain goes through three processes: encoding, storage, and retrieval. For our brain to recall memories, these processes must work in sync. Although the human brain is capable of developing memories right in the womb, most people can’t trace childhood memories before the age of three or four. But that’s okay! After all, don’t we all get a little forgetful now and then?
Good Memory Day is here to remind you of all the beautiful moments from your past and gives you the opportunity to create more for the coming times. In the meantime, do not forget to acknowledge and show compassion to those who struggle with their memory.

Brew a Potion Day – January 19, 2022~U.S.
Brew a Potion Day is celebrated on January 19 every year. It’s a fun day to put on your witchiest best and get to brewing. Potions have become a part of popular culture through games like “Minecraft” and fantasy series like “Harry Potter;” with a full inventory of potions and witches and wizards brewing them. Potions are liquid concoctions popularly expected to be magical in some way. For the most part, they were and are still brewed to cure different diseases, but some make people immortal or fall in love!
HISTORY OF BREW A POTION DAY Potions, taken from the Latin ‘potare,’ meaning ‘to drink,’ have long been associated with women. In the 1100s to 1400s Europe, women were the most respected source of medication for all the illnesses people experienced. Women would brew potions made primarily of herbs, oils, and other natural ingredients with specific healing properties. These homemade potions would be accompanied by soup or restorative teas and were an important part of early medicine on the continent. Apothecaries were the early pharmacies, and just about anyone could set one up. Owners of the apothecaries would make potions from scratch that they would sell as medicine, and female-owned apothecaries were highly respected – a lot of the famous ‘potioneers’ in the world were women. These potions were for humans and animals.
Of course, there would always be people selling concoctions for money without really thinking about what went into it. Love potions were very popular, as were potions for luck, general good health, and immortality. People would get duped into buying these potions that made false promises and sometimes had dangerous ingredients. There wasn’t a lot of information about the properties of some plants and herbs at the time so it was very common for poisonous ingredients to be used in potions, causing harm to those who drank them.
The different types of potions include restorative potions to cure sicknesses, immortality potions for people who wanted to live forever, and hallucinogenic potions for spiritual practices. Brew a Potion Day encourages making potions to support health and well-being so choose your ingredients wisely!

Artist as Outlaw Day – January 19, 2022~U.S.
Artist as Outlaw Day is annually celebrated on January 19. It’s a day to celebrate the subversive artists, the people who challenge the status quo and speak truth to power even when the going is tough. Artists have always been considered as being on the fringes of society. Of course, there are pop artists who are well known, who say things that are inoffensive to the people in power. There are also the artists whose works are known to challenge the way society functions and demand something different. It’s these artists and their works that we celebrate on Artist as Outlaw Day.
HISTORY OF ARTIST AS OUTLAW DAY Artists and outlaws have been compared to each other for a long time, and they have a lot of overlaps. Outlaws and artists have been seen as solitary people who live outside the bounds of normal society. They can never fit into the cookie-cutter middle-class localities, and they live their lives questioning the law.
America has always been fascinated with its outlaws, an important part of the mythology of the Wild West. We’ve all loved stories about the law-breakers with hearts of gold, people who didn’t fit into society’s boxes and had to break the law to survive. A lot of artists are similar. They challenge the way people live and refuse to live that way. They live life by their own rules, and by refusing to follow society’s rules, they represent a kind of freedom most people can only dream about. Outlaws and artists would usually mend their ways as they get older. While the idea of being an outlaw artist is very romantic, the reality is difficult. Artists and outlaws live fast and die young, or learn to slow down.
Artists who live like outlaws are always under scrutiny, always on the watchlists of their governments. They can’t play it safe like the popular artists do, or go mainstream, because they can’t or don’t know how. These are the artists who introduce radical changes to philosophies of life and the way people think. Artists like Banksy need to be anonymous to preserve their livelihoods even as they make paintings that transform the way people see the world.

Women’s Healthy Weight Day – January 20, 2022~U.S.
Women’s Healthy Weight Day falls on every Thursday of the third full week in January, and we have something very important to tell you… you look ravishing today! Each of us is unique in our own way. A healthy weight is the natural body weight in relation to height. Being healthy is defined by physical, mental, and social well-being, which means getting the right amount of nutrition, exercise, mental stability, and sleep.
HISTORY OF WOMEN’S HEALTHY WEIGHT DAY The first thing that people notice about us is our physical appearance, so it’s no surprise that we get so conscious when someone mentions our weight. Sadly, many people believe that being thin is equal to being healthy, which is not the case. Being skinny isn’t always healthy. We could be healthier than a person who weighs less than us.
For years, people have associated weight with a healthy body, which is not true. Being healthy is not defined by just weight, but is a combination of the physical, mental, and social well-being of an individual. An ideal number on your bathroom scale is not an accurate representation of a healthy individual.
Body Mass Index (B.M.I.) is the standard used to determine a healthy weight. Recently, new standards of measurement of a healthy weight are being developed, which promise to be more accurate than the standard B.M.I.
Many women go to extreme lengths to achieve their ideal weight. They starve and put themselves at risk just to lose that excess weight. On the other hand, some women show no concern for their weight or health and increase their chances of contracting life-threatening diseases.
Women’s Healthy Weight Day celebrates a healthy weight for all women by accepting every woman’s natural body appearance and weight. This day discourages the obsession with weight loss in an unhealthy manner. Women are encouraged to celebrate their natural weight by focusing on their overall health and at the same time, avoiding unhealthy diet practices.

Take A Walk Outdoors Day – January 20, 2022~International
Take A Walk Outdoors Day falls on January 20 every year, and as the name suggests, it’s a day to step outside for a walk alone or with someone. Walking comes with a bag full of health benefits, and taking a walk outdoors is always more fun than doing it on a treadmill. Walking outdoors lets your body absorb Vitamin D which is good for your bones and muscle growth. For best results, try an early morning walk because only the early morning sun generates Vitamin D, and 75% of adults don’t get enough of it.
HISTORY OF TAKE A WALK OUTDOORS DAY There is no evidence of how this holiday started, but we assume it was established as a way of reminding people to stay active. This is especially applicable in the modern world driven by technology as it is. We tend to spend a major part of our day sitting in front of a monitor. The idea of walking is a significant part of human evolution as we separated ourselves from other animals by walking without our hands.
The Romans came up with the concept of a mile by walking. In their estimation, a thousand military steps were equivalent to a mile. Through the ages, long-distance walking developed into a competitive sport as humans liked to exhibit their outstanding feats of achievement. In the latter half of the 19th century, this became a popular sport in America as well as Europe. Germany boasts of the oldest surviving walking club, Black Forest Wanderverein, which was set up in 1864. The first race walk in the U.S. took place in New York in 1911. Even before that, there is a record of race walks being an official sport in the London Olympics of 1908.
Today, we are familiar with various forms of walking such as race walking, speed walking, brisk walking, power walking, marathons, and so on. Walking has even become a mode of worship. For example, thousands of people marched to Camino de Santiago in 2015, inspired by the movie “The Way,” which portrays an American father walking along the same route in France in search of his estranged son’s body. Who knew walking could have such a glorious history?
If you have a daily ritual, like getting your morning coffee, reading a book, listening to music, or sipping wine, club it with a bit of walking. This way, you don’t have to find an extra slot in your busy schedule for a walk. Think about it.

National Penguin Day – January 20, 2022~U.S.
We love penguins for lots of reasons: They walk around in tuxedos, they have a cute waddle, and they’re unique! And to show that we care, we observe National Penguin Day on January 20. While this day celebrates the penguins, it’s also a time to think about saving them. Many penguin colonies have been lost to climate change and it’s estimated that half the population of emperor penguins will vanish by the end of this century. We can start to help these endangered creatures by focusing on environmental issues.

National Coffee Break Day – January 20, 2022~U.S.
National Coffee Break Day on January 20 every year is all about highlighting the importance of a coffee break during work hours. Yes, no matter how intelligent or hard-working you are, getting drained after a few hours of work is all but natural. So, how can you re-energize yourself? Of course, you reach for your favorite cup of coffee. Every workaholic’s best friend is a coffee break, which they can’t live without. It’s also the most effective strategy to increase your energy. As a result, it is critical to commemorate National Coffee Day and the benefits it brings to employees across the United States.
HISTORY OF NATIONAL COFFEE BREAK DAY A coffee break, according to the official definition, is an activity in which a person takes a short break for rest and refreshments. However, the significance of a coffee break has developed over time and has become an important aspect of the workplace.
This is due to the fact that working hours and rules were fairly strict in the 1980s. In the 1880s, Americans would frequently take a break from work and relax with a cup of coffee. They would talk with coworkers throughout this time. Personal difficulties, work-related problems, and basically anything that was on the employee’s mind at the time were discussed. In the 1900s, when the eight-hour-long workday system was adopted by factories, a coffee break became a must. Workers were also seen refueling their coffee mugs during shifts to give themselves a wake-up call.
By the 20th century, coffee breaks had become such a norm that streets of cities were flooded with coffee stands ready to serve tired workers with a freshly brewed cup of coffee.
Are you wondering why a coffee break is so important? According to the National Coffee Association, coffee is rich in antioxidants that have various health benefits. A ‘coffee break,’ on the other hand, helps workers relax, become more productive, and stay motivated. Experts have even gone so far as to say that taking a coffee break is essential for maintaining business ties. It also enhances performance and increases cognitive efficiency.

National DJ Day – January 20, 2022~U.S.
National DJ Day might celebrate the work of our favorite disc jockeys, but it stems from the work of ONE famous jock: Alan Freed, whom you might know as ‘Moondog.’ This 1950s DJ, who coined the term ‘rock and roll,’ is the reason we honor DJs on January 20. On this day, we celebrate the talents of all the disc jockeys, from those playing the ‘Chicken Dance’ for the millionth time at a wedding to the radio personalities who help you get through the morning commute.
HISTORY OF NATIONAL DJ DAY National DJ Day takes place on January 20 every year. On this day, we celebrate amateur and professional DJs who spin the records and play the grooviest music at the right time. The music is usually played in front of a live audience, but televised or recorded music sessions are also available. The most common types of DJs are club DJs, radio DJs, party DJs, and turntablists — who scratch and manipulate sounds by playing records on turntables.
The first-ever disc jockey was actually the result of an experiment on live radio. A 16-year-old boy named Ray Newby played some records on air, catalyzing a movement that started in California and spread to the entire world. At this time, the term ‘disc jockey’ did not exist. It only appeared about 25 years later when the term was used by radio commentator Walter Winchell to describe music broadcasters on-air. This was also when the primary source of music were records, and not CDs or digital playlists.
On January 20, DJing and influential DJs are celebrated, but the day also marks the death anniversary of one of the world’s most iconic disc jockeys — Alan Freed, aka ‘Moondog.’ He was famous for pushing rock ‘n’ roll music and popularizing DJing.

National Cheese Lover's Day – January 20, 2022~U.S.
On January 20, get ready to ‘havarti’ a ‘gouda’ time, because it’s National Cheese Lover’s Day! Have you ever wondered how the first human discovered cheese? We’ve wondered that too, and we’ll probably never find out. All we know is that it was love at first bite; when the first human tasted the salty, tangy, delicious goodness of cheese, they were hooked. And we can definitively say that human history was forever changed. Cheese might have had mysterious beginnings over 7,000 years ago, but it’s insanely popular today. In the U.S, one-third of all milk produced in this country goes into cheese production. It’s a multi-billion dollar industry! We’re ready to celebrate it.

Guru Gobind Singh Jayanti – January 20, 2022~World
Guru Gobind Singh Jayanti is celebrated on January 20 by Sikhs across the world. The festival honors and remembers the Sikh leader Guru Gobind Singh — an inspirational man who was also a warrior, poet, philosopher, and a spiritual master. The Sikh community chose this day, in particular, to remember Guru Gobind Singh because January 20 is the birth anniversary of the great guru. So no matter how much work you have, or how much stress you are under, use this day to break the rut and get in touch with your spiritual side. It’s time to start healing.
HISTORY OF GURU GOBIND SINGH JAYANTI Guru Gobind Singh is an inspirational figure in the history of Sikhism because of his ancestors, as well as the steps he took for Sikhs in his lifetime. Singh was the son of the ninth Sikh guru, Guru Tegh Bahadur. After his father was killed by Mughal emperor Aurangzeb, Singh became a Sikh leader when he was merely nine years of age. Throughout his life, he fought against Muslim rulers and the injustices that were committed by them. Singh became such a popular name not only because of his skills as a warrior, but because he lived his life to set an example for others. He not only mastered the art of fighting, but also focused on spreading his philosophical teachings in the Sikh community.
Singh also started the tradition of ‘Khalsa’, which includes ‘Kesh’ (uncut hair), ‘Kangha’ (a wooden comb), Kara (an iron or steel bracelet worn on the wrist), Kripan (a sword or dagger), and ’Kacchera’ (short breeches). This tradition birthed a new ceremony for Sikh warriors whose duty was to protect people from religious persecution. This meant that a Khalsa Sikh was given the title of a Singh, whereas a female was called Kaur. The tradition of Khalsa in Guru Gobind’s life became a way of life and the warriors had to follow a very strict code of conduct. Singh also finalized the “Kartarpur Pothi” — a manuscript of the great Guru Granth Sahib that serves as the primary scripture of Sikhism. In total, Singh fought 13 wars against the Mughal Empire.
