Wow. They need to measure the distance of the sound of voices from the cash register to figure out if they should open another till???

Seriously, WTF?

And bagging efficiency can't be measured by the number of items, since items come in different shapes, sizes, and weights. The reusable bags they have now are useless for carrying anything that weighs more than a few bags of chips, which is why I bring my old soft-sided cat carrier as a supplemental shopping bag. You can stuff a lot of heavier things in there (you wouldn't believe how many chicken pot pies, containers of minute rice, and cans of cat food I got in there!).

Most of them at my local store are self-checkout. There are only a few full-service ones now, and if you only have a few things that don't need to be weighed, you can go to customer service or the till in electronics.

Thing is, the local Walmart is in a mall where there's a dollar store, so that's where I shop now. There aren't a lot of affordable choices here, but holy , the staff are sometimes dumber than a pile of cement. Ever since the federal environment minister put in a law banning single-use plastic that includes shopping bags, it's been a nightmare to get bags that hold enough and are strong enough and the right dimensions to hook on the side of my walker. I need ones that don't have gigantic handles, and Walmart bags' handles are insanely large. The bags drag on the floor if you put more than a feather's weight in them.
