Nasra's participation in the 100m race at the FISU World University Games in Chengdu, China, ended with her finishing last and failing to complete the race. Her performance set a new record for the slowest finish in the competition's history.
Watch the video in the link above. In my twenties, my 100m time was 12.3 seconds (as an ordinary person, not a trained athlete). This lady must be a really special "piece of wood" (this is a Czech simile... I have no idea what the English name for a "very clumsy" person) ;-)

I get that this is easy to laugh at, but can we please not mock a woman who was just trying her best?! Clearly she shouldn't have been chosen and God only knows why she was (not her fault, I'm sure), but tearing down a woman who's only "sin" was being comparatively slow in a race just seems cruel. And for goodness sake, how fast could any of us run in the heat (apparently about 89*F that day) while having to wear that much clothing? Question and blame those who put her there, definitely, but don't take it out on her please. :'( She isn't clumsy, she's just not a runner.

Not even Eddie "the Eagle" Edwards garnered this much undeserved mockery. This isn't funny. It's cruel.

The point is that this is not a race in a schoolyard somewhere, but it is a global Universiade, of the best against the best. This lady only got there by cheating (see those links), through personal connections.
I find it absolutely disgraceful when "athletes" like this get into a top event. This isn't some charity competition between the streets of a small town - where it would be no problem.

So go after the person who gave her the placement - unless the woman we saw is complicit and actually wanted to embarrass herself in front of the entire world (though I've never heard of this competition). I think she must have known going into it that she had no chance at all, and even a trained runner wouldn't have been as fast, wrapped in multiple layers like that. Athletes seek to be as aerodynamic as possible, and wear whatever it takes to get that (within the rules). Did you find Eddie "The Eagle" Edwards disgraceful? There were many who thought that if he was the best that the UK could muster, then they shouldn't have bothered.

I too read the link and yes, it is nepotism, but it might not be this lady's fault - we don't know that part of the story. I did not see accusations that SHE cheated, merely that she's related to an official (who might have put her there for her own reasons). I can't imagine this lady wanted to be lambasted globally! We simply don't know her story so let's not run someone down without all the facts.
Personally, I found Eddie "The Eagle" very inspirational! Cheering Same with the Jamaican Bobsled team! Someone's going to come in last, at least they worked hard and tried their best.

I watched as much of the 1988 Winter Olympics as I could, since Calgary is only 90 minutes south of here, and I actually knew someone who performed in the Opening Ceremonies. I watched sports I'd never even heard of, like biathlon (weird combination of cross-country skiing and target shooting with a rifle). Anyway, one night my dad was watching the coverage on NBC (reruns of stuff we'd already seen earlier on CBC), and the ski jumping events were being shown. My boyfriend and I were about to head out for a bit of stargazing (the astronomy kind), and I remember saying, "I bet Eddie the Eagle will end up on Carson at some point (this was when Johnny Carson was still hosting The Tonight Show). Less than a minute later, there was an announcement that "...and on the Tonight Show, all the way from Calgary, Canada, Olympic ski jumper Eddie "The Eagle" Edwards will be joining us..." (paraphrased) My dad's jaw dropped. He stared at me, and exclaimed, "How did YOU know?" I hadn't. This was just one of life's funny coincidences. There were so many athletes there who were so laser-focused on their event and winning a medal that they forgot to just be in the moment and enjoy themselves. This was Kurt Browning's first Olympics, and he was able to cut loose and have fun, as all the figure skating focus was on the Battle of the Brians:

I didn't see any of the videos and it looks like they've been removed, but based upon the other posts, is it possible that the woman's family was goading her to be in this competition of which she had absolutely zero interest? If she showed up in tons of clothing and didn't finish the race, I'd have to wonder if she was even trying and only entered the race just because she was pushed into it, but since it wasn't her thing she made no effort at all. It reminds me of the cheerleading competition my junior high school did. This was in the late 70s and I was maybe 11 or 12 at the time, but never forgot how there was one girl in the contest who did absolutely NOTHING the entire time except stand there and halfheartedly wave at the crowd and stick her foot out every so often, while the other contestants displayed their gymnastic tumbling skills and their ability to do the school cheers and obvious enthusiasm for being there. It didn't make sense to me at the time why she would make a fool of herself, but in retrospect I could tell she really didn't want to be there and made sure she had no chance of being chosen as a cheerleader.
Kurt Browning: I'd forgotten his first Olympics was in 1988. Always loved his style; so sad that he did not succeed on Olympic ice as the short program was constantly his downfall in later Olympics.

Just a note... I'm seeing references to this lady's clothing - my fault, I brought it up as a point about how difficult it would be for any of us to run in the heat while wearing so much. I just assumed everyone knew why she was wearing it. It's not a fashion or laziness choice. It's a requirement for her due to her being Muslim. Somalia is an approx. 99% Muslim country and their laws can be very strict. Many female athletes from strict Muslim countries wear such clothing or they are not allowed to participate. Some devout Muslims wear the coverings regardless of their country's rules. And some female athletes are defying this (and more power to them, IMHO), but it can be dangerous for them to do so in some places.

Yep, for some reason he always choked at some point in the Olympics. "Tequila" was his short program in the '88 Olympics, but of course he knew he had no chance at a medal. All the attention that year was on the two Brians (Orser and Boitano). Kurt Browning shot up to the #1 position in the World Championships very quickly, though. Almost too quickly. Becoming the first man to land a quad in competition was amazing, but it put a lot of expectations on him. He had no problem winning Canadian and World championships, but the Olympics was a problem. My first thought on rewatching this program was, "Sigh. It's nice to see him when he still had hair" (he doesn't anymore). Just a note... I'm flabbergasted how anyone could look at this woman and not know that she's wearing what passes for athletic clothing for Muslim females. Any woman from a Muslim country who tries to shed the hijab and layers while competing had better have an escape plan, and hopefully one for the family as well, in case of retribution.
