That's par for the course. NC has DEER DEER DEER (well coyotes and raccoons and foxes etc. but the deer population is way out of control. Had one born in our backyard which was sweet until it grows up and eats all the plants. We had about 25 wandering thru the yard one Easter and then there was the fun morning when a hawk breakfasted on our deck railing (ugh)

joybelle , for the very intriguing National Geographic lesson on your country’s distinct animal species. The Quokka reminds me of a beaver, for some reason; maybe it’s the teeth. The frill-necked lizard is a wonder to behold; it looks like it’s about to blow out fire, like Godzilla, . I love the adorable group picture of the Emu, Tasmanian, , and koala. The little possum wrapped around the person’s finger is so cute. The only species I don’t want to see is that deadly, terrifying Hunter Spider. Now, pennmom , don’t you dare! That raccoon on the far right looks like it’s saying, “Take me!” smitty189, I had a deer family living in a natural area behind my house; they would hop the fence and eat our freshly planted bushes. Unfortunately, they stopped coming around two years ago; I wonder what happened to them.

I have but one objection here...to 'get nicked' means to be arrested. Hence you are 'going away' (to a cell). Asking a person to go away..is said as 'Nick off' (or its what you do when you leave a place..you have 'nicked off', 'buggered off' or 'racked off') In a sentence: I got a squiz of a copper (policeman) walking my way and I thought 'I may get nicked here' so I racked off as quick as I could. I mean I am no drongo..I still had to go to the servo and the bottle O, and go home and cook some tucker. So put my snags on the barbie (bbq) and shoved them in my cakehole. But I wont waffle on any longer now, because I am knackered and going to veg out all arvo. HooRoo! Rolling Smilie

mooky ...A bloke..we have blokes, sheila's and nippers for kids . A sentence: A bloke came up to me and gave me a ham to take home for my sheila and the nippers. Its slang language..but I must admit we all talk some of it in any one day no matter how educated you are. When we use it. it denotes lay back, friendly or not snobby talk. At work you may say.. 'Just nicking out for a sanga' (I am leaving now to go and purchase a sandwich). So I guess its also lazy talk as well **We dont use 'sheila' much anymore if we know the person (like a wife or a partner etc)...that's now the 'missus/mrs" mainly. But if we are telling a story or a joke ..we say..and "this sheila or this bloke". Chic is the acceptable term these days for ' young woman' and 'Guy' for a man...and also just 'lady' for older women.

yeah pennmom , good call. It's just 'Swearing'. But we are doing it ' like a trooper' if there is a lot of it spewing forth. "A bloke came in swearing like a trooper". (army or police in the olden days)... that's the lingo ..but otherwise its just called 'sprouting profanity' (snobby upper class) We dont use 'cussing'..but we know what it is..we got TV Rolling Smilie

Australia Day is the official national day of Australia. Observed annually on 26 January, it marks the anniversary of the 1788 arrival of the First Fleet at Port Jackson in New South Wales, and the raising of the British flag at Sydney Cove by Arthur Phillip. In present-day Australia, celebrations aim to reflect the diverse society and landscape of the nation and are marked by community and family events, reflections on Australian history, official community awards and citizenship ceremonies welcoming new members of the Australian community

No pennmom , still have lots of weird and wonderfuls to come..I will get on to that this week. (regarding Australia Day..yep that's all accurate kasie , but on March 3 1986 we finally stopped being ruled by the British and govern ourselves. There is lots of controversy about this day being celebrated amongst the community, aboriginal people especially who call it 'invasion day' and it is a day of mourning for them..as there was bloodshed with that landing. And now we are our own Sovereign Nation we are looking at lots of options for what it will now mean to modern Australia? Will we have a 'new' day? But heck..we are not there yet by a LONG way...quite split)
