Welcome nyx! I think one of the reasons HOPAs are disappearing is that they are very expensive and time-consuming to produce. Match 3's, shoot 'em up's, etc are lots cheaper and more straight-forward to come up with, so give a financial payback much faster. HOPAs are not quite as accommodating for limited screen sizes on phones, etc, so that limits their audience more too. Of course it does not help that BFG, one of the biggest publishers of HOPAs, kept leaning on their developers to make games more cookie-cutter and dumbed down either. I dont know the solution. Theoretically a higher price-point for HOPAs, but to be honest, the HOPA gaming audience is now used to cheaper prices and unlikely to be willing to start paying more. BFG could theoretically offer a different revenue-sharing plan with their HOPA developers (they take an enormous 60% of the price of games I hear), but that is not likely either.

nyx, There's been a lot of chatter about the state of HOPAs lately but we have the bad habit of talking about games here and there so stuff is scattered.
One thing that might interest you is that Domini has independently released a new game at Steam which is not at BF. A second Domini game is up but hasn't been released yet. Some discussion about them here: thewoodsforum.boards.net/post/23077/thread
We've also starting having group plays which just means that we all play a game at the same time, offer help and cheer each other on. This has helped to introduce members to adventure games. We have played some HOPAs and puzzle games from BF, too. This board has the schedule and the threads for each game. The next game is Loom starting June 3rd. thewoodsforum.boards.net/board/67/group-game-play
I know there's more info. I just don't remember where it is. A lot of us (@pennmom and I are pretty bad) are not good at staying on topic or not going off on a tangent. We just start talking like we're sitting around the kitchen table having a great old time. It's fun but confusing for newcomers. Just pull up a chair and join us!

nyx, The reason there have been no HOPAs the last couple of months is because all of the developers are either from Ukraine which is being invaded by Russia and cities are completely destroyed If they aren't from Ukraine, they are from Russia and because of US sanctions they can't get paid (& many are unwilling to pay for a Russian game because they support Ukraine) Elephant Games was from Russia but they just moved headquarters to Armenia (probably just a legal loophole, I believe more will follow suit) Domini Games (now called Do Games) is from Russia GrandMa Studios is from Ukraine Five-BN Games is from Ukraine Friendly Fox Studios is from Ukraine

Today's game is Brave Deeds of Rescue Team Collector's Edition and is an Alawar game. Alawar used to be a Russian developer/publisher but their headquarters are now listed as being located in Lewes, Delaware. When did that happen? It used to be Novosibirsk, Russia. There was a time when BF would not even say the name Alawar because they were a competitor and still are. For example, on the Beholder game page, Alawar is nowhere to be found. I don't actually care one way or the other but I do find it to be curious after the Elephant Games thing.

I don't actually care one way or the other but I do find it to be curious after the Elephant Games thing. This is why businesses set up their headquarters in Delaware, my youngest son is a Corporate Attorney (hence the name Penn-mom, because he was accepted into Penn Law School) so surprisingly, I knew this answer Rolling Along There are two major reasons for Delaware’s dominance of the corporate incorporation business. One reason is the bi-partisan political consensus in Delaware to keep the Delaware corporation statute modern and up-to-date, and to rely on Delaware’s corporate law specialists for advice in how to do this. As a result, law students at every law school in the United States study the Delaware corporation statute and the decisions of Delaware courts interpreting that law.
The other major reason corporations choose to incorporate in Delaware is the quality of Delaware courts and judges. Delaware has a special court, the Court of Chancery, to rule on corporate law disputes without juries. Corporate cases do not get stuck on dockets behind the multitude of non-corporate cases. Instead, Delaware corporations can expect their legal disputes to be addressed promptly and expertly by judges who specialize in corporate law.
