Enter the surreal, disturbing, and ridiculous world of the Knobbly Crook in this old-school point-and-click adventure. O'Sirus the Snip is a simple paper farmer driven to epic adventure by a spooky face with a spookier voice. He will ultimately seek to become a Knobbcrookian royal guard–a Guffaloon. Stories of their heroic battles against the fearsome Bogold empire echo throughout the Crook. Unfortunately, they’re not currently recruiting simple paper farmers. He’s going to have to use every dirty trick in his book to cheat his way to the top and that means YOU will need to understand the key elements of the Knobbly Crook - Rock, Paper, and Scissors. Creatures of stone crush the metallic Knobbcrookians. The Knobbcrookians herd and farm paper animals. Fearsome stone giants fear tiny paper animals.
As we join our woefully inept hero, O'Sirus, he finds himself on trial for all the crimes you have not yet committed together. Retell his nonsensical story as his journey begins, finding himself a stowaway on a ship that is half , half boat, and half whale. Every moment that passes takes you further from your goal--the Knobbly Crook. It's up to you to torment the Drafthorse's unsuspecting crew in an attempt to alter their course. Once you reach moist land, the real adventure begins... and continues for rather a long while... and concludes after quite a bit of shameful nonsense.
The Knobbly Crook is a full adventure game and is completely free without any ads or tricks.

It’s the hottest summer on record, and all across Europe, valuable objects are disappearing.
Museum curators unlock cabinets and find precious artefacts stolen. Wealthy mansion owners wake up to see their priceless paintings have vanished from the walls.
One thing’s clear: a master thief is touring the continent and the police are left scratching their heads.
In this 15 minute game by Crows Crows Crows, a team led by William Pugh (The Stanley Parable), slip into the soft-soled shoes of the mastermind responsible…
… silently cross the darkened lawn of the mansion…
… hold tight to the tranquiliser gun in your pocket, and commit the most audacious heis--
oh god I can’t do this any more, i’m joining the strike. i didn’t want to - i honestly didn’t want to, but it’s gone too far
i’m supposed to be writing the steam store description and that’s it, that’s my job, but because of the understaffing i’ve been told i need to work in the lighting department too and it’s only a matter of time before i’m re-assigned to wildlife preparation
and everybody knows that working for wildlife preparation is mostly about trying very hard not to be eaten by the tiger
so that’s it, i’m joining the picket. if they want somebody else to finish the description, that’s their problem
i’m out. - tina

How long has it been? A man sits in a distant getaway cabin waiting for his wife Serena. Where is she? Things in the cabin evoke memories, and the husband comes to a disturbing realization...
This short point-and-click adventure is the result of a massive collaborative effort between dozens of fans and designers of adventure games. Rallying to support the venerable genre and its passionate community, these developers have brought together a grim and highly detailed horror story in what is the largest, possibly even the first, game project of its kind. Talents include crew from renowned indie companies Senscape, CBE Software, Infamous Quests, Digital Media Workshop, Guys from Andromeda, and many more.
Features * A (twisted) love letter to the adventure game community * Over 40 contributors provided their wit and talents * Extremely depressive mood, and a bit of fear here and there * A haunting story that will challenge your intellect (and temerity) * Amazing voice acting by legendary adventure game designer Josh Mandel * More awesome acting by popular video producer Pushing Up Roses * Yet another overwhelmingly astonishing surprise cameo by an ex-designer from Sierra! * Did we mention the gut-wrenching atmosphere?

Dearest Sir Raven, Do you still wander around without end? Crafting colors under the still and silent Not knowing I'm waiting here alone without a friend
Dearest Sir Raven, When you are around, would you mind to stop by? Just a hello, just a moment To let me savor the memories before our goodbye
Dearest Sir Raven, Let us go home To the place devoid of reality frame Where I shall watch over us even without a logical form
A Raven Monologue is a short experimental silent story about a raven that does not know how to croak and his relationship with the people in the town.
This experiment was part of #MojikenCamp2, an internal upgrade program by Mojiken Studio to experiment with how to tell stories or to communicate an experience using a constrained work of interactive art.
Features * A silent Raven * Fictional people * Hand-drawn art * A story that you can interpret without limit * Music by Christabel Annora

The Museum of Dubious Splendors is half a storybook and half an exploration game. It is a collection of folklore and oral tales, punctuated by peculiar rooms, that you wander through.
These tales, have been recreated from a collection of stories by Mir UmarHassan, a Gujarati poet whose works have proven notoriously difficult to translate because of the mellifluous use of Urdu and Hindi in his compositions.
The collection, entitled "in Dubious Splendor", was written (in Gujarati) in nineteen sixty two for the Malwa Chronicle, but the stories therein were mangled and edited without the author's permission prior to their publication in serialized form. This contested collection of stories, became momentarily infamous as the subject of the first court case to arbitrate authorial ownership in Independent India.
Even today, despite countless restorative efforts by scholars, it cannot be said with with any certainty that the text that we used for this adaptation was the original as written by UmarHassan.

joybelle, There are tons of free games on Steam. Some of them are experiments. Some are prologues for an upcoming full length game. Some are student projects. Some are winners from a game jam - good enough to be on Steam. You could probably play free games for a year and never spend a dime.

Jo, joybelle, I have a few of these games, I loved Serena & Syberia, def putting others on my wishlist like Disturbed. I tend to like games that are either super scary or on the other side of the spectrum that are colorful and fantasy-themed, I don't seem to have a middle ground. Jo,is killing me here, my wishlist at Steam is growing at a break-necked pace and Steam contacted me to tell me that they are running out of space on my list and wanted me to start buying stuff for crying out loud Rolling Smilie

pennmom, I have 354 games on my wishlist so no sympathy here! I use it like a note to self so that I'm notified when a game is released or goes on sale. Then I re-evaluate after reading reviews. Every time I come across a FREE game, I add it just in case I ever have time to actually play it. I, too, love Serena but then I loved Scratches and Agustin Cordis, the dev. I just sent you a Steam friend request. Won't you be my neighbor?

Yeli Orog is a short atmospheric FMV (Full Motion Video) game about an immense archaeological discovery: A bizarre stone tablet written in the Celtiberian language found buried underneath an ancient dolmen in northern Spain. The inscription written on the tablet tells a ghoulish tale believed to be the Celtiberian origin myth.
You play the role of Johnny Robin, an archaeologist sent to Asturias, Spain to assist in the recovery of Celtiberian remains. Upon arrival to Asturias you find yourself unexpectedly transported to an alien world, experiencing first-hand the terrifying story written on the ancient tablet.
If you are a fan of Myst-like games, interactive stories with puzzle elements, and FMV games, you will appreciate Yeli Orog.
Average play time: 1-2 hours. Please note that this game has a lot of reading in English. The reading is essential to understand the story, if you are not fluent in English you might not enjoy the game.

"1961. The hero is Professor Dimarx, an archaeologist who thinks he made the discovery of the century on his planet, Terra, on the forbidden continent of Meridia. He is exalted by his discovery, and descends into the depths of the earth without precautions. He is as if called by an unknown force, and will discover the first Black Cube in the modern history of Terra. His mind is then like "absorbed" inside..."
Kitrinos is a first-person #scifi adventure game set in the world of the Black Cube series (ASA, Catyph, Myha...) and initially created during Adventure Jam 2018 on Game Jolt. It takes place in a retro geometrical world, that can remind of old movies and polygonal games. We mainly created it in 2 weeks (the development continued during the next few days to complete the game).
Gameplay The gameplay is frame by frame (in prerendered 3D backgrounds) with 360° panoramic views in HD, and many short cutscenes in animated video. The game was developed with the Clickteam Fusion engine. It is recommended to play it with a pen and paper to take notes and solve the puzzles.
Features * A prequel to the Black Cube games * 1~2 hours of lifetime * An original soundtrack by Yazorius * 3 different regions to visit * Challenging puzzles * The story is told through a diary and several animated cutscenes * 1080p graphics, 360 panoramic views
Kitrinos is a kind of psychological journey, from the creators of ASA: A Space Adventure (Simon Mesnard) and 'EnantiO' (Yazorius).

Session Seven is a free point & click graphic adventure game meant for fans of the old school 2D adventure game classics.
You play as Ryan, an estranged father and husband who has just awoken, beaten, bruised, and alone in a locked cellar. Your head is throbbing, and you have only a few vague, twisted memories about how you might have gotten there. Armed only with the sparse tools around you and the strange, possibly dark mementos you find along the way, it is up to you to find out what happened and escape the basement.
Your life is not the only one on the line. Your wife and son may be in danger too. Through a series of puzzles and player-directed flashbacks with an unidentified therapist, you decide how Ryan's story ends... and how it began. It is vital that you find your way out, but it is just as important that you figure out how you got in. Session Seven is a point-and-click adventure and an interactive story, and there are multiple directions in which the player can take their narrative.
Experienced players should take about one to two hours to complete the game on the first try. The puzzles are chosen to be a good compromise between easy and hard to target both casual and expert adventure gamers.
The game is the passion project of a game designer, a writer, and a musician, and we sincerely hope that you will enjoy your experience. Have fun, and good luck.

Backbone: Prologue is the first act of an upcoming noir roleplaying detective adventure. Step into the shoes of Howard Lotor - anthropomorphic raccoon and private eye - and explore the beautifully rendered 2.5D pixel art environments of dystopian Vancouver.
Howard Lotor is smart, self-assured and set in his ways. Caught in the tedium of day-to-day life, he’s resigned to the abuses of the authoritative regime in power and compliant with the systemic inequality that permeates society. Most of the cases he works on are unremarkable domestic disputes. Odette Green’s case probably won’t be any different.
Backbone's gameplay is a new take on point-and-click adventure, featuring stealth, exploration and extensive branching dialogues inspired by classic CRPGs. As Howard, you must traverse the different districts of a now walled-off Vancouver, sniff out clues, collect evidence, interrogate witnesses, and choose which leads to follow.
Inspired by film noir, Backbone will submerge you into its dark dystopian atmosphere. Every animation in the game is handcrafted frame by frame, and environments are modeled after real streets of Vancouver, BC. The breathtaking combination of high resolution pixel art and 3D effects like dynamic lighting, pouring rain, volumetric fog and neon lights bring the sprawling city to life. Original doom jazz soundtrack will keep you on the edge with the enveloping veil of bebop and cinematic soundscapes, where every sound tells a story.
Note: The full game, Backbone, is scheduled to be released in 2021.
