PROBLEM: You may have noticed that somewhere along the line, BF lost a whole slew of game walkthroughs. For instance, the "T" section has become a wasteland. Also, the web pages for some games are either "lost" or the page is weirded out.
SOLUTION:
MY EXPERIENCE with trying to buy a game this way:
I started January 2018 to see what would happen if I try to buy a game through that portal. I clicked on The Clockwork Man: The Hidden World (that's one of the "lost" game pages) from its walkthrough, then on Buy, which flew me back to May 3rd, 2016. I guess that's when it was released?.
Anyway, the cart opened and it contained $405.49 worth of games, quite a few of which I would never buy. The cart asked me to delete some of the games because it was overloaded. Well, guess what: I couldn't delete anything apparently because BF cannot access its servers. To be honest, I don't know for sure if that last message is from BF or Wayback, but the notification box is the same (see screenshots below).
To check, I went to 8/1/22 and clicked on Maze of Realities: Reflection of Life. Message: "This game will not work on your operating system. Are you sure you want to purchase it?" That's just weird.
I gotta' stop here, but if Seattle has been cut off from of its customer / store server, that would explain the 502 Bad Gateway we've been getting. Oh well, for now it's all just conjecture 'cause BF is worse than lousy when it comes to crisis management, leaving us in the dark. I'll dig some more tomorrow if we're still in limbo. And hopefully, this is the last of my edits. Gah!
SOLUTION:
- Go to The Wayback Machine, web.archive.org/. It's an archive site that has been capturing entire websites since 1996, and I have frequently used it for research beginning in 1999. It takes a picture of a website at a certain time, sometimes several times a day, and stores it for future research.
- Type in bigfishgames.com - no need for the http/www.
- A calendar of site capture events will come up; click on the year you want to search. A mini pop-up asks which time you prefer; I usually choose the latest time available.
- Once the site capture window opens, you can click on any link in the entire site, complete with game images. Warning: The machine makes a lot of re-directs so you may start in one month and year and end up in another. Be sure to watch the date string in the upper right of the window.
