Can those of you who loved Moontrain please explain to me why? Like honestly, that wasn't a sarcastic question...I want to know what exactly made you love it so much. I understand there's a sad story involved somehow about a developer, but that can't be why you all love it so much. I started playing it on the weekend so I could accurately vote in that category. I expected to LOVE it, but it's honestly just driving me crazy. I have loved other games of the same type that really make you think (and don't hold your hand), but unfortunately, I'm not loving this one. I keep thinking I must be missing something if you all love it and I don't. I tend to agree with a lot of you on games (except Varenje which I hated so much I even wrote my first (and only) review, but a lot of you guys loved it). I will be finishing it, but I think I'll wait until I hear some reasons from you guys and maybe I can see how to love it too. So good that you've asked this!... I've played this game in the Group Game session, and didn't finish it... I didn't like it, or saying it nicely, I didn't find it THAT special... I think, the dev. actually has died (?)- so there was/is an added emotional state to this game - for me it is yet an other HOPA game. I would love to hear from the fans, what was so good about this game, too...

orionsrose, I'm no help. I hated it. Played 5 minutes of the demo and noped right out of it. It's not the style of game play that I like at all.

orionsroseI had known Chris for years, he was one of the most personable guys ever and very easy to strike a conversation with. He created a successful HOPA called Tearstone and worked on the sequel for years, as time and money allowed for. He wasn't sure if a "thinking" kind of HOPA would be tolerated nowadays because the new generation of games are so cookie-cutter. When Tearstone 2 did well, it was confirmation to him that people were ready for Moontrain and Out of Time. Unfortunately, Chris passed away suddenly, mid-production and the team had to finish the game on their own. Chris was a great friend, and the Dragonseye team did an incredible job of completing Chris' vision...so yes, there is a lot of emotion, and a lot of "connection" for me personally, which surely influenced my attitude when playing it. thewoodsforum.boards.net/thread/1054/memorial-thread-chris-dragons-studioAs for the game, I love cartoonish graphics, such as in The Tiny Bang Story, A Tale For Anna, Varenge, and Moontrain. In fact, I love games where I have to find several pieces of something, like in My Brother Rabbit. I loved having to figure out the puzzles, and even the HOs because there were no explanations or they were vague. I don't want to fry my brain, I just don't want my hand held, and Moontrain was exactly that kind of game for me :) PS: I also love the humor in the story, but mostly I love the bright, colorful graphics and animated characters

"De gustibus non est disputandum!" The original Latin adage translated:
"In matters of taste, there can be no disputes"
which later evolved into the English idiom
"There's no accounting for taste"
which, according to Merriam Webster, means
"there is no way to understand why some people like something while other people do not". It's just that simple.

My little brain doesnt recall much about the game this long after playing it, but from my notes, I thought Moontrain was definitely a good game, had cute characters, and original and challenging puzzles (though their goal was often obscure). I found it a decided cut above the mindless, rote HOPAs we are generally getting these days and it was fun to play. Full disclosure: I did, however, vote for Lost Lands, 'cause I thought that game was truly exceptional.
