With all the talk shows, Conventions (Comic-con, etc.), shows/movies being filmed on location, and social media now, meeting a celebrity is easier than ever so I'm curious...
Have you ever met, or exchanged communication with a celebrity of some sort?
Their level of celebrity doesn't really matter, I just want to hear your stories.
And who would you love to meet?

I've run across a few minor celebrities. I was on the tram to the terminal at the Atlanta airport with Willard Scott, the weather guy, one time. I didn't speak to him and after the initial double take, I didn't even look at him. He was just trying to get to baggage claims like the rest of us. We frequently saw basketball and baseball players in Detroit eateries especially Armando's Mexican restaurant. I don't even remember who they were but my husband, a huge sports fan, knew them all and was thrilled. A friend of mine briefly dated Dave Corzine who played for the Chicago Bulls years ago and we went out with them for a drink one time. He was the largest human being I've ever been close to. He had to be nearly 7 feet tall. I'm fairly used to tall people because my husband was 6' 4" and we ran into tall people all the time at basketball games but he took the prize. I knew nothing about his basketball career but I was very impressed by his size. And he was a nice man. I've met both our Michigan Senators, Debbie Stabenow and Gary Peters, several times. Peters more than Stabenow because my husband worked on his various campaigns at a local level.
Now as to what celebrity I'd like to meet: that would have to be Jimmy Carter. Not being a sports fan, I never thought a lot about seeing sports people and have little interest in meeting movie/TV stars. But I have so much admiration for Jimmy Carter and the way he's lived his life that I would be in awe. Habitat for Humanity is my favorite charity. My in-laws had lunch with him years ago and I wish I had been invited. I would be honored to shake his hand.

I have been to many comic book and science fiction conventions before the normies took over. I have met and spoken to many celebrities that some here might recognize: Patrick Troughton, Tom Baker, Peter Davidson and Colin Baker of Doctor Who. I also had lunch with both Jacqueline Pearce and Paul Darrow of Blake's 7. Mr Darrow invited me to stay at his place if I ever went to England. I also met Jon Pertwee and he was a man full of humor and mischief. All the above I spoke to for a length of time instead of seeing them on stage. Others I saw on stage but had no interaction with them so I don't include them as meets.
As for local celebrities, I did meet Chicago news anchor Floyd Kalber (WMAQ NBC 5).
Then the conventions got bigger and less personable so I stopped going to them.

Not much exciting on my end, with a bare minimum of interaction: - My treasured autograph while a child: Lt. Rip Masters (James Brown) of Rin Tin Tin fame when he came to a local bowling alley in New Jersey to give out autographs. I still have my little scrap of paper
- Ed McBain (really Evan Hunter) - an author who wrote the 87th precinct stories under his pen name and really compelling serious novels under his real name, when he came to a book signing in Washington DC. He was a fascinating speaker but my one main memory was that, when asked about other authors he liked or didnt, he said he didnt like P.D. James and found her books tedious & plodding....I've never been motivated read one of hers as a result!
- Bella Abzug, a famous NYC politician in the 60's & 70's, with noted campaign slogan "A woman's place is in the house - the House of Representatives". Didnt speak to her but was sitting on the floor of a dingy old bus station in my college days, waiting for a bus, when she came in to catch one too. From my floor level seat, my main impression was "gee, how uneven her dress hem is!", as it was totally wavy, all the way around.
- Not a sighting by me, but a tale from my mom, who was a schoolteacher. One of the other teachers in her school was informed by the office that "your butcher called". Totally confused, the teacher went to the office to find out more, only to be told "he said he was Dave your butcher and wanted you to call him back". Turns out it was Dave Debusschere (sp?), a big sports hero back in those days.

Flying from California to Florida, we had a layover in Atlanta. While walking to our next gate, I heard murmurings that Muhammad Ali was in the airport. I was talking quietly to my friend about it while we were in line and I looked next to me to see Ali himself, sitting at the gate. I don't know who all was with him but Laila, his daughter was there, and the glare on her face could have set the airport on fire. It worked because nobody was bugging the man. Including myself (I wouldn't have anyway) who couldn't get over the fact that I was an inch away from the man.
When I was a child, I met Beverly Cleary!
My mom grew up in Carmel and when she was in high school, she and her friends would sneak onto Pebble Beach via the beaches during celebrity golf tournaments. While they'd see real celebrities, they'd ask normal people for their autographs. Teenagers. Rolling Along
