I decided I needed some comfort games this past week and went way back to an old favorite - Ranch Rush. It worked perfectly on my Win 10 desktop. So when I finished that game I went on to Ranch Rush 2. It opened in my BF GM, worked perfectly, and I played for 20-30 minutes. Later I went back to play again and it wouldn't open. I've tried repeatedly over the past 24 hours and even deleted it and re-downloaded it, but it just won't open. My task manager will list it, but not as a currently open game, only as a background process.
Has anyone else had this happen? Is there any other way to get it to open perhaps?
I know that some of these old games don't work with newer and newer operating systems, but if it opened and played perfectly the first time, clearly it can work.
If anyone has had this happen and/or has some useful advice I'd love to hear it!

orionsrose, when you delete the game, go to your recycling bin and empty that before reinstalling; (I even restart the puter before reinstalling) sometimes this works. Did you try running the game as administrator or simply try to open the game via the icon versus going thru GM.

Have you tried compatability mode as the game is quite old. If your PC started out as Win 7 compatabilty should work for it.

OS: Windows XP/Vista/7/8

I just ran into this glitch or one very similar the other day. Like you, I've been playing some old games, Mystery Trackers to be specific. Played the first six or so with no problem. Downloaded Memories of Shadowfield CE and it didn't go to the top of the list in the game manager even though it was set on "Date Installed". It was further down the list. I only keep maybe 10 BF games installed on my computer so it wasn't a long list. Darn game would not open from the GM. So I went into This PC primarily to see if it had actually installed > OS(C) > Program Files(86) > Mystery Tracker - Memories of Shadowfield Collector's Edition right clicked "Application" and choose "Create Shortcut". Dragged the shortcut to my desktop and clicked it. The game opened without a problem and I played the whole thing in several sessions always having to use the desktop shortcut. This is the first time I've ever had a problem with the BF GM other than it now opening in the top left corner of my screen which really isn't a problem but I do like to have thing centered properly. I've played two subsequent Mystery Trackers games from the GM with no problem.
Did someone at BF shout out a challenge to their coworkers to create a new never seen before glitch?
Hope this works for you.

Jo, I'm almost certain they (BF) don't care if people buy their games

I can't thank you guys enough for the advice! I NEEDED to play the game this past week, it held together my sanity, and without you guys I wouldn't have been able to. I will be saving this advice for any future old games that want to be glitchy about starting up.
In the end, what worked was going back and forth with the desktop shortcut and the GM. It never started the same way twice in a row and sometimes took a couple tries back and forth (6, and 5 tries the other day!), but it did always start eventually and played perfectly each time. And thanks to the help page on BFG I learned the easy way to end each try that didn't work without having to reboot my computer each time. I never knew you could just use the "end task" in the taskmanager and it was fixed easy peasy. In truth, I've never had too many games not work in my GM before so it's not like it was a big issue, but this time, with all the trying it would have been without that trick.
Anyway, thank you all - I appreciate you so much! Flower Blooming

I never knew you could just use the "end task" in the taskmanager and it was fixed easy peasy. I use the Task Manager all the time for BF games because theirs is the only one that doesn't always close the game for "Real" I can exit a BF game, and everything looks normal, then when I try to hit the play button, for that game or another, I get a popup that says "Oops, Something's not quite right, it looks like you have another game running" even though there are clearly no games showing an active icon. It doesn't change anything if I simply log out or close the BF GM. I have to restart the computer OR I can simply pull up the Task Manager and close the BF GM app and when I restart the GM all's good! So much easier & it works every time!

I noticed this thread only now...My experience, applies to ALL the games I have on BFG: I only use GM when I purchase, install and activate games. Otherwise, I have it turned off. All BFG games are found to run using either shortcuts as mentioned above. Or also by using the *exe of a specific game in the game directory, directly by clicking.
