This section is supposedly suitable for any topic...Okay, I've got a long night (and morning, mid-morning...) ahead of me. I took my wife to the hospital today, tomorrow they're going to replace her knee (titanium is titanium). Since we both haven't gone to work in 30 years (we have our own business), we live next door to each other 24/7. Now I'll be alone for 14 days... the worst part is that I can't cook anything, I'll have to go to a restaurant for lunch :-) And I have to take care of our incredibly picky cat.
A lot of our friends can't understand, "and you're not getting on each other's nerves?" It's simple, no, no and no.
I have to get over it somehow.
----- If it doesn't belong here, admin should delete it.
P.S. I was just wondering, I can't tell who (here) is HE and who is SHE by their nicknames. Is there such info somewhere? I, when I have a wife, I'm HE ;-)

sisinka, Thinking good thoughts for wife's surgery & speedy recovery....and hope you survive the period well too. Might be a good time to learn how to cook simple things and surprise her with your new skills when she returns! It will also help distract you from worrying about her while she's away. I'm sure we can help you with learning some really easy and foolproof meals (spaghetti with store-bought sauce is the easiest). Or invest in a microwave oven - God's gift to those of us who want hot meals quickly with a minimum of "cooking" work.

Wishing your wife the best! I'm with lurkercat - learn to cook! Honestly, everyone should know how to cook, at least the basics. And your wife is going to have recovery ahead of her (along with pain probably) so it would be good if you could help take care of her. It will take your mind off things too. Try Youtube. Youtube is amazing for learning just about anything (I've learned woodworking, yoga, new quilting/embroidery techniques, cooking, baking, and cat/dog grooming and birthing). Also, those who want it known whether we are hes or shes have the little symbol on our profiles. It's shown right next to number of posts, and can be done through the edit profile section.

Luckily we have a big freezer in the basement where we keep some (previously cooked) food frozen, I don't have a problem with that :)
But to make something from raw meat, some sauce - and to make it tasty - is not very easy for someone who has never cooked ;-)
I remember a long time ago, as a teenager, I used to cook rice. No experience of it being cooked many times the volume... instead of one serving I had enough for a large family.

sisinka, do you have Door Dash available where you live or something similar? Wishing you both luck, and I totally get the being alone part, it's tough when someone has been together for such a long time! As for the SHE & HE, this is an option that anyone can choose in their profile settings I am SHE PS: It would be a rare occasion for me to delete someone's post unless it's cruel or contains personal information about someone else. I believe in free speech and I don't really care where it's posted. I just love it when someone posts!

Thanks, pennmom!
I didn't notice the gender setting at all. And in my profile I had "Gender Visibility - no" (default?? I don't know). Corrected :)

sisinka, sending you and your wife kind thoughts. Hope the surgery went well. There's lots of ready-made food in grocery stores if you're really afraid of the kitchen, but "necessity is the mother of invention" or however that saying goes... I used to eat out all the time myself, then stuff happened in life and I had to learn to cook. As others have mentioned, there are simple things such as making pasta, cooking rice, or making soup which you can find how-to's on the internet. I often get stir-fry sauces or curry pastes in cans or jars and some of those are pretty darn good. You don't have to be the next Julia Child or Emeril to make decent meals, and it'll save you a lot of money. (((hugs)))

sisinka, Eventually the wife will be home...and super hungry! Rolling Along I have a favorite recipe I make when there isn't a lot of time. At first, I thought this recipe sounded gross and bland, but I was pleasantly surprised, and it is among our favorites now! I like to use Jasmine rice, but any rice is fine. It's really easy to make rice, especially if you have a rice cooker. (we add a sauce topping by mixing Sriracha with sour cream & also top with Edamame beans)

sisinka , How is wife doing after her surgery? Hope all went well and she's soon up and about on her new knee. The operation (cca two hours) was done without total anaesthesia, only with local anesthesia in the spine + "something to sleep on". She was in the ICU for one day, then was transferred back to orthopedics today and started rehab right away. She already has to try walking and load the "new knee" with 30% of her body weight. In the hospital there is also a device to "train" bending in the knee, it can be borrowed then at home, we will definitely use that, it is better than a spin bike. Of course it hurts, she has higher pressure, but I suppose it will soon adjust - after all, they "did" it yesterday, miracles don't happen. Fortunately, in the Czech Republic, we can pay for a hospital "above standard", so she has a separate room with facilities - it's not like somewhere in an infirmary during the First World War. It's not too expensive either, +/- 10 USD per day.

She's still in orthopedics, maybe(?) she'll be there by Thursday. Then she should be moved to the rehab ward, where she'll get a lot more physical exercise. The whole thing - if there are no complications - takes about two weeks, then the patient should be self-sufficient (with crutches) and go home. At home, of course, she will continue to exercise, we will borrow this machine for that: And in November she will go to the spa for a month, for further rehabilitation. It's getting better every day, it hurts less. But it's probably not fun... -------

She was in hospital for a total of 3 weeks (one week in the orthopaedic ward and 2 weeks in the rehabilitation ward). Now she is at home, she is exercising honestly, we also go to the rehabilitation clinic. She walks with crutches, she can use the operated leg for maximum 30%, about 6 weeks. Today, the health insurance company also assigned her a spa (4 weeks), I'll be managing myself at home again :-)
