I'm working on updating our first ever adventure game, Legend of Crystal Valley for it's 15th birthday. Already made some neat improvements on the Steam version but the big one (hush hush) is that we're finally addding voiceovers to the game! The original game had none, and German and Italian was added by publishers later on.
The thing is, I'm doing an in-house experiment where we're recording voices ourselves on semi-pro equipment, and even using AI help here and there where we couldn't get the take right.
So, what I'd like from you is an honest opinion of the result. We're not native English speakers but I think we did a good job. However a native speaker will be more objective and we need honest feedback before releasing it out there.
Please like this post if you'd like to participate, I can have a windows demo build ready within 1-2 weeks hopefully (one playable chapter with voiceovers). And if you think it's good, I'll release the demo on Steam for a more wider audience while we work on finishing the rest of the voices.

kspes, I think that's a really cool idea! I edit the scripts for Five BN Games and I play the game before any voiceover has been added, rarely even music added at that point, because that isn't necessary for the grammar edits, etc., mostly I just need the spreadsheet scripts. Several months later when I finally get to play the game with music and voiceovers it brings a whole new perspective to the games...it's like an entirely different game, so I think voiceovers would be very cool! On a different note, I have several questions: I found a bundle for your games on Steam store.steampowered.com/bundle/34805/Hidden_Object_Puzzle_Adventure_Games_Collection/ but this doesn't include Hotel, Do you have one that includes Hotel? Is Hotel, and Brightstone Manor: Paranormal Hotel the same game? Is one just remastered? Is Brightstone Manor: Paranormal Hotel and Brightstone Manor: The Others related, story-wise? Forgive me, but it has been years since I've played them. This is the bundle package I'm referring to for $21.31 (I already own The Others on Steam) but I want one with Hotel as well.

Yeah I know, voices really do lift the game up quite a bit! I'm having great fun doing this. I wanted to use my voice as one of my favorite characters in another game, but try as I might, my voice just doesn't work well for that character haha.
To answer your question: Hotel and Brightstone Mysteries: Paranormal Hotel are actually the same game, and "Hotel (Collectors Edition)" on Steam actually has both versions. We also plan to remaster the old version of Hotel. The main difference between the old and the new is that the new one (Brightstone Mysteries) has a more casual interface, no moving character, and guided hints, while the old one is a more traditional point and click adventure game.

kspes, but at the moment, there are no bundles with Hotel and the rest of your games included?

Loved all the above mentioned games! I played Crystal Valley again a few months ago in a group play, Enjoyed it all over again. I don't remember it not having voices so apparently that didn't bother me.

Ooooookay, here we go :) First build is ready! You can download it here (It's 250MB in size). (When you open the link, hit the arrow button in the top right corner (it should say "download" when you hover your mouse over it)
It should work on any windows computer, just launch "locv.exe" file in it. Notes: * This build doesn't yet have the volumes normalized so expect some effects to be overly loud compared to the voices * Only the first chapter has voices for now, the rest are not yet ready for public, still tweaking it internally. * Once you finish the first chapter (go through the hole in the wall), the game will probably crash (this is intentional for this demo) * You can use this walkthrough if you get stuck. * Try clicking on everyhing you can see. Most items have 2-3 texts so make sure to click through all of them to get the best overall impression. * Please be kind :D But above all be objective, I need your honest opinion of the overal quality, what you think of the main character's voice, is it good, is it annoying, etc, be as descriptive as you can. I've heard it so many times I can't be objective any more :)) Looking forward to reading your feedback!

kspes, I downloaded the file and extracted it to a folder. The first folder, _MACOSX opens to this: The second folder, locv_voiceovers_test 01, open this: Can't find an .exe file. I don't think I did anything wrong with the download or extraction so would appreciate a clue as to where to find it. Thanks.

Jo - it's the locv file (Application) in the locv_voiceovers_test 01 folder. pennmom - I had no trouble running this executable in the new folders it made after unzipping the file.
