International Day of the Seafarer – June 25, 2021
Get ready to set sail, because June 25 is the Day of the Seafarer. This is day for seafarers of all stripes, from Coast Guards, to Navies, to every fisherman and marine biologist and cruise ship captain. If your job involves a large quantity of salt water, then this day is dedicated to you. The first documented sea voyage was made around 3200 BCE, and was bankrolled by the Egyptian Pharaoh Snefru (he also built at least three pyramids during his reign). Today, over 90% of global trade is done by sea, since it is still the most cost-effective way to transport goods. Marine biologists and oceanographers from every country have dedicated their lives to learning more about the ocean depths, and humans from every walk of life keep going to the sea to explore the planet.

Global Beatles Day – June 25, 2021
Music lovers worldwide come together to celebrate Global Beatles Day on June 25. The occasion pays tribute to The Beatles and the impact they had on both music history and pop culture. Paul McCartney, John Lennon, Ringo Starr, and George Harrison first recorded together as a foursome in 1962 — after producer George Martin fired original drummer Pete Best. The band’s work throughout the decade remains unparalleled in pop music.
HISTORY OF GLOBAL BEATLES DAY The Beatles were a rock band that formed in 1960. After the original drummer Pete Best was fired, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr went on to be known as the “Fab Four”. The initial beginnings of the band were actually happening in 1957, but they went through a few name changes before settling on The Beatles in 1960.
A bunch of smash hits later they were performing All You Need Is Love to 400 million people via the first global live TV link, with the broadcast reaching 26 different countries simultaneously. This huge moment in pop culture history took place on June 25, 1967, and is the reason why Global Beatles Day is celebrated on June 25 every year.
Global Beatles Day was founded in 2009, and we use it to celebrate not only their music but also their message of peace and love.

Armed Forces Day (U.K.) – June 26, 2021
Armed Forces Day in the U.K. on June 26 marks a special day for the country’s sovereignty and its interests. Each year, noteworthy and outstanding parades and marches are organized at the country’s landmarks. Even though Armed Forces Day is an official event, it is not a public holiday as businesses and offices remain open. One of the goals of the day is to recognize the services and sacrifices of the country’s forces. The soldiers and cadets train day-in and day-out to protect the citizens of their country from all sorts of dangers. Their efforts are lauded by everyone, including politicians and celebrities. Another aim of the day is to raise funds for those injured in the line of duty.
HISTORY OF ARMED FORCES DAY (U.K.) Armed Forces Day in the U.K. initially started as Veterans’ Day in 2006. Veterans’ Day was considered an extension of Veterans Awareness Week. This first Veterans’ Day was a series of events that were kickstarted at the Imperial War Museum, which was founded in London in 1917 to recognize the British Empire’s efforts during WW1. The day was commemorated by James Gordon Brown, who served as the Chancellor of the Exchequer, the prime minister, and the leader of the Labor Party from 2007 to 2010. Veterans’ Day celebrated the living veterans and their families. It was later on in 2009 that the name of Veterans’ Day was changed to Armed Forces Day as a way of recognizing and rewarding all branches of the forces.
Some of the celebrations include military parades and stage performances. In 2010, the main events were held in Cardiff. A military parade, which was led by the Prince of Wales (Prince Charles) and the Duchess of Cornwall (Princess Camilla), covered the area from Cardiff Castle to Cardiff Bay. Cardiff’s waterfront also had many other performances, which included the land, sea, and air as the stages. Every year, the main events are hosted by a different city, but the armed forces’ message remains the same — they reiterate their pledge to protect the U.K. and all of its dependent territories. Highly trained forces are always ready to be deployed to face and fight any challenges. The forces are also present to provide aid in times of natural disasters or to de-escalate a dangerous situation. Pacifist and antiwar groups regularly challenge Armed Forces Day, however, as they believe it normalizes violence and militarism in civilian lives.

ARRL Field Day – June 26, 2021
ARRL Field Day on the fourth full weekend of June every year is the opportunity for thousands of amateur radio enthusiasts throughout the U.S and Canada to set up temporary communications stations and make contact with like-minded people. Licensed radio operators (often called “Hams”) spend the weekend practicing community outreach, emergency preparedness, and technical skills. It’s basically radio heaven.
A contest is held each year with individuals, clubs, and teams trying to make contact with as many stations as possible over 24 hours. Field Day will take place on June 26 and June 27 with over 35,00 people expected to take part. It begins at 18:00 UTC Saturday and runs through 20:59 UTC Sunday. Pack your camping equipment, throw up some temporary antennas, and spin the dials on your radio, because this not-to-be-missed event is rich in history, tradition, and technology.
HISTORY OF ARRL FIELD DAY The first ARRL Field Day was held on the second Saturday in June 1933. The winner of the contest was the W4PAW team who scored 1876 points. The initial event, organized by F. E Handy, was such a hit with the amateur radio community that it became an annual tradition, with 1942 through to 1945 being the only years that Field Day hasn’t been held, due to World War II.
For many, the big draw of Field Day is the competition–a high-frequency dash to make contact with as many stations as possible. The rules state that if setup commences before the contest starts then participants have 24 hours to chase their contacts, whereas those who commenced set up as the contest started have 27 hours. In 1968 the rules were changed and it became mandatory for everyone to set up within the 27-hour timeframe, but the change proved unpopular and it was readjusted again in 1969 to the rules that are used today.
Each station will exchange information with other participating stations. For the North American Field Day, the exchange consists of the station call sign; the name of the ARRL-recognized section from which the station is operating (called Grid Square); and a class designator which indicates the type of location (whether in a vehicle, outdoors, or in a home), the number of people operating and number of transmitters being used, plus information about the type of electrical power source connected to (conventional or emergency sources like batteries, solar, generator, wind, etc.). The event is now widely sponsored by the International Amateur Radio Union (IARU) and has begun to spread its wings overseas in many countries.
The contest portion of Field Day has two purposes: The primary purpose is to test the group’s ability to plan operations that can be effective for an entire twenty-four-hour period, including operator endurance and adequate numbers of operators for a shift operation. The secondary purpose is to demonstrate the technical proficiency of the station that has been quickly constructed for the contacts: In theory, a better station will be capable of emergency operations in dire conditions; such a station will also be capable of making more contacts during the contest portion of Field Day. Point systems are structured to motivate emergency preparedness activities, such as designating a safety officer for the station or incorporating auxiliary power capabilities.
Although many amateur radio enthusiasts work hard to win the contest in their entry category, the social side of the event has grown over the years too. Camping and cookouts are commonplace, with those operating the radios in rotating shifts to keep the stations on the air.
Field Day is frequently used to attract significant publicity for amateur radio, and some clubs simultaneously demonstrate technologies including single-sideband voice, Morse code, older and new digital modes alike (such as RTTY, PSK31, and FT8, among others), and even two-way communication via amateur radio satellite.

sonia (username @eskarina) Midsummer Day – June 26, 2021
When the sun hardly sets and the nights are no longer dark (have you witnessed the Midnight Sun in real life?), it’s time to celebrate Midsummer’s Day in Finland, which occurs every last weekend of June — this year, on June 26. Midsummer’s Eve marks the official start of the warm summer weather, annually celebrated as a major national holiday and characterized by a playful sun casting golden hues over the country. Sporting a rich and colorful history, Finland is among the few places to witness this incredible astronomical event because it lies north of the Arctic Circle. So, get ready to set up a and bring along outdoor speakers, marshmallows, and a group of friends for 24-hours of dancing festivities in the open air.
HISTORY OF MIDSUMMER DAY Besides Finland being the happiest country, it’s reportedly one of the most magical and historical places on Earth as well. Traditionally, Midsummer was a pagan summer festival of harvest and fertility. Initially, the day would be spent hosting parties, paying tribute to and honoring the Finnish god of thunder, Ukko, so that he would be happy and assure a good harvest. Ukko controlled the fall of rain and so they were obliged to please him.
After Christianity arrived in Finland, the Midsummer festival of the pagans became discreetly associated with Christian celebrations. Also called Juhannus, Midsummer’s Day is now celebrated in the memory of John the Baptist whose birthday is also celebrated during this time.
Midsummer’s Day is known for countless key traditions including Nightless Night, characterized by a belief in witches, fairies, and elves who descend on Earth (that’s why the night is lit!) to tease humans and predict their futures. Driven by this tradition, young people buy bouquets of seven or nine different flowers, place them under their pillow, and hope to dream about their future spouse. The Midsummer weekend is also popular for weddings, in the name of fertility.
Another tradition is hosting ‘kokko’ – a huge bonfire that’s placed near water, casting a stunning reflection on the crystal-clear lakes together with the hues of the Midnight Sun. Since the times of pagans, Midsummer Day in Finland is a lively and cheerful celebration that locals keenly await.

National Beautician’s Day – June 26, 2021
National Beautician’s Day is on June 26, when beauticians are celebrated for the services they provide. Numerous studies have shown that people feel a different level of confidence when they look their best, and beauticians help achieve this. A beautician beautifies your features through makeup, hairstyling, manicures/pedicures, and so forth. Many beauticians have had extensive training to become experts in their trade. Trained beauticians are also known as cosmetologists or stylists. Frequent visits to your local beauty parlor can forge a strong connection between you and your beautician. So take the time out this June 26 to shower your beautician with tokens of appreciation.
HISTORY OF NATIONAL BEAUTICIAN’S DAY National Beautician’s Day is a way to honor the beauty industry. Beauticians have existed since the old days. Many kingdoms had specially trained maids who would specialize in enhancing the beauty of the royal families they served. These beauticians would also create special makeup or soaps and shampoos using ingredients from nature like bright red fruits or herbs. Each country had its own types of beautifying methods. For instance, in South Asia, people used coconut oil to get luscious and healthy locks. Beauticians also made use of a paste made of turmeric, lemon, sugar, and honey to create a radiant glow not just on the face, but the whole body. In the Middle East, beauticians burned a fragrant material called ‘oud’, and the smoke was then used to perfume the hair of their clients.
As globalization and commercialization increased over the decades, the beauty industry grew with the trends. Today, courses ranging from diplomas to bachelors to masters exist to help get people into the industry. Cosmetology is one such beautician branch. It deals with teaching and licensing people in becoming experts in areas of nails, skincare, manicures/pedicures, hair, and electrology. WW1 and WW2 were especially revolutionary for the cosmetology industry. Many women were forced to join the workforce as men were enlisted to serve in the army. This saw women generally neglecting their beauty in the face of other priorities. Visits to the beauty parlor increased as more and more women enlisted the help of beauticians to beautify and pamper themselves. Beauticians, then and today, provided relief to many of their clients’ worries that were not solely related to beauty. Friendships form between beauticians and their clients because of the time they spend together.

National Chocolate Pudding Day – June 26, 2021
It was the lunch table trump snack. If you looked in your sack lunch and saw a Snack Pack, SwissMiss, or Jell-o brand chocolate pudding, you knew you had top currency. The lunch table and all its contents were your domain, and you could trade for anything you wanted. Not that you ever would, of course. Indulging yourself in a little chocolate pudding doesn’t have to be a nostalgic childhood memory a feel-good pastime. We’re pleased to tell you that June 26 is National Chocolate Pudding Day, when adults and kids alike can heap spoonful after spoonful of the stuff with abandon. If it’s pudding’s creaminess and smooth texture that make you melt, you may grimace at its origins as a sometimes-savory cakey dessert. In the 17th century, “pudding” was served after dinner, and included everything from grains to raw mutton fat. Definitely not the spoonable suaveness we know and love today. And while the origin of National Chocolate Pudding Day is a bit obscure, we can at least take comfort in knowing it arose after creamy pudding was invented in the mid-1800’s. We take our chocolate pudding without raw kidney fat, thank you.

World Refrigeration Day - June 26, 2021
World Refrigeration Day will serve as a means of raising awareness and understanding of the significant role that the industry and its technology play in modern life and society.
The term ‘refrigeration’ here is being used in its widest sense as the process of achieving and maintaining a required temperature below that of its surroundings. An example of refrigeration is the preservation and distribution of perishable food products. Refrigeration systems are also used extensively for providing thermal comfort to human beings by means of air-conditioning. Similarly, heat-pumps are devices that take heat from one source and move it to another location.
World Refrigeration Day has been established by agreement between Industry trade associations and professional membership bodies from around the world.
In 2019 the UN Environment’ OzonAction Programme announced they would be partnering with World Refrigeration Day to promote awareness of the importance of refrigeration.
World Refrigeration Day was founded by Stephen Gill, a past President of the Institute of Refrigeration

Cream Tea Day - June 26, 2021
If you have ever been curious about how the British drink their tea, then you can learn more about as well as celebrate it through Cream Tea Day! Cream tea day is a British holiday that celebrates the etiquette and history of drinking tea with scones filled with clotted cream and jam. If that sounds delicious, then you can read more about the history of cream tea and scones here. Let’s read up on what the craze is about cream tea.
History of Cream Tea Day Cream tea is a form of afternoon light tea that is served with sides of scones, clotted cream, and jam. The tea is believed to have originated in the 11th century when the tradition of eating bread with cream and jam at Tavistock Abbey in Devon arose. There are two methods to eat scones and drink cream tea. One of the more notable Devonian method, where a person splits the scone in two, covers each half with clotted cream, and then adds strawberry jam on top.
The Cornish method, which is more notable in London, is when a person takes a warm ‘bread split’ or a ‘scone’ and splits in two, then spreads with strawberry jam, and finally tops the scones with a spoonful of clotted cream. In this case, it’s a matter of order generalized to the area you are located in.
Hence, for all tea lovers out there, Cream Tea Day was created by the Cream Tea Society, an organization that partners with Tiptree and Rodda’s to host tea events throughout the United Kingdom.
Each year, the Cream Tea Society would host tea parties and events, teaching people proper English etiquette and how to properly eat scones and drink tea. Each of these events all go towards charity fundraisers to organizations such as children’s cancer research.

Helen Keller Day – June 27, 2021
Helen Keller Day is on June 27 and it celebrates the life and achievements of Helen Keller, a woman who overcame blindness and deafness and became infamous in the process. Anne Sullivan was Keller’s teacher and she received acclaim in her own right. When Sullivan was just five years of age, she suffered from trachoma, an eye disease that impaired her vision. She had to learn the manual alphabet and faced adversity herself because of it. She was called a miracle worker for helping teach her pupil how to read and write when no one thought she would learn.
HISTORY OF HELEN KELLER DAY Helen Keller was born June 27, 1880, in Tuscumbia, Alabama, but things turned bad quickly. At nineteen months, she suffered from a form of bacterial meningitis, which left her unable to see, hear, or speak. The sought the advice of Alexander Graham Bell, a famous scientist and inventor known for inventing the first telephone, who advised them to apply to the Perkins Institute for the Blind in Boston.
They followed Bell’s advice and in 1887, Keller was taught by Anne Sullivan, a young teacher who had suffered vision impairment herself. Sullivan used “touch teaching” techniques and her skilled guidance calmed the seemingly uncontrollable Keller. Keller learned how to read and write in Braille thanks to Sullivan’s own experiences that gave her a deeper understanding of her student’s struggles. Keller also used hand signals of the deaf-mute, which she understood by touch.
Keller would go on to become an author. In 1902, her book, “The Story of my Life” was published and loved by many who took her story to heart. She graduated from Radcliffe College and graduated with honors in 1904, making her the first blind and deaf woman to graduate from college. Thanks to Sullivan’s assistance and became a public speaker, requiring the assistance of an interpreter to make herself understood. People were inspired by her resounding spirit to surpass the expectations placed on her because of her disabilities, and it led to advances in public services of the handicapped.
Helen Keller was a fundraiser for the American Foundation for the Blind and an advocate for racial and sexual equality. Sullivan and Keller became a lifelong duo and from 1920 to 1924, they formed a vaudeville act to entertain, raise money, and educate the public. On June 1, 1968, Keller died in Easton, Connecticut, at age 87, but her legacy of civil service and a resilient spirit is everlasting. The presidential proclamation of Helen Keller Day was made in 2006, as well as many notable international organizations that help the blind and deaf.

National Bingo Day – June 27, 2021
Nearly everyone who grew up during a certain part of the late 20th century is familiar with Bingo. The game, which first came to the U.S. in the 1930s, started with paper cards sporting 24 numbered squares arranged in five rows and five columns — plus that enticing “free space” in the middle which seems to promise a short cut to riches! Bingo’s making a comeback today thanks to Bingo games on mobile devices. National Bingo Day, on June 27, celebrates America’s love of Bingo. Read on for a little nostalgia and a look at where Bingo’s headed next.

National HIV Testing Day – June 27, 2021
Each year, America observes National HIV Testing Day on June 27, raising awareness about the importance of testing for HIV and getting an early diagnosis. Called NHTD in short, this day is crucial for encouraging people to increase HIV testing and know their status, and thus get the care they need to treat this illness.
HISTORY OF NATIONAL HIV TESTING DAY The HIV virus itself was identified in the 19th century by French and American scientists. Dr. Robert Gallo co-discovered HIV as the cause of AIDS. This breakthrough meant companies could begin testing for antibodies produced in response to this virus and hopefully protect people from the effects of HIV. Initial tests conducted in this period were not to diagnose people with HIV or AIDS but to screen donated blood for a possible infection. As “TIME” magazine reported at the time, the fear of contaminated blood was running high, even though a very small fraction of people had contracted HIV through blood transfusions. The nature of these tests meant scientists and labs got a lot of false positives; medical uncertainty meant people did not know if the positive result meant people were infected, or if they had simply been exposed. A label on one of the early tests — which is in the Smithsonian Museum of American History, clearly states that it was not to be used as a test to screen for HIV or AIDS. The advance of HIV testing among the common public was marred by the stigma attached to the illness. These reasons turned the testing process on its head. New protocols were added, new experimental studies were conducted, and testing awareness drives were conducted.
The future looks promising, however. An American called Timothy Ray Brown was the first person to ever be cured of HIV. Contracting the illness at university in the late nineties, he received a stem cell transplant ten years later, after being diagnosed with leukemia. Luckily for Timothy, his donor had a rare genetic mutation conferring resistance to HIV. Timothy remained HIV-free ever since. Scientists have been trying to replicate this success ever since, and are using this lesson to try and develop a broadly applicable cure.
In the late 19th century, dozens of scientists worked round-the-clock to create a revolutionary new HIV test that changed how this illness was diagnosed. Ten years later, the National Association of People With AIDS founded National HIV Testing Day to increase the number of people testing themselves for this illness. The program got off to a very successful start and has been running ever since.

National Ice Cream Cake Day – June 27, 2021
Two of our favorite things are celebrated each year on National Ice Cream Cake Day on June 27, and we are salivating at the thought! The perfect sweet treat for just about any occasion, this ice cream filled with layers of cake is the perfect dessert for a hot summer day (or any day of the year, really). Get excited about this amazing union of frozen yumminess with us.
HISTORY OF NATIONAL ICE CREAM CAKE DAY
No one knows for certain who came up with the ice cream cake or even when it originated. Multiple theories abound about this invention. Some food historians believe the sixteenth century was when the initial versions of the ice cream cake came to be. Others think Victoria Era desserts called ‘Bombes’ — which were made of ice cream and fruit and sometimes contained cake or biscuits — were the inspiration for the ice cream cake. Yet others believe wealthy English lords and ladies, who could afford treats like this, invented the ice cream cake. One more version of events attributes the trifle as being the first version of the ice cream cake; the theory is that since sponge biscuits were used to keep the ice cream in the trifle in place, they are the initial version of the ice cream cake. These earlier variations are not the current dessert we all know and love, however. The current design includes a cake that is baked and then cooled, and ice cream is added after to create the finished dish. Some companies even decorate this for an added flourish. These cakes gained in popularity over the years, but they only became affordable after World War I.
The day itself has a very inspiring thought behind it. Mum-of-three Johanna Jurado passed away in an accident two months before her 32nd wedding anniversary, which was in June. Like any , the Jurados went through a whole period of grief and then acceptance, learning to live their new normal. Unlike many others, the Jurado chose to respond to this tragedy by marking a special day in honor of Johanna Jurado. Johanna loved celebrating fun new special ‘days,’ and she believed ice cream cake made any celebration better. So, Johanna’s youngest daughter, Jenna, came up with a brilliant idea. She, along with Cupcakes for a Cause, petitioned to have June 27 — also her mother’s birthday, called National Ice Cream Cake Day. These celebrations have been held ever since that day three years ago and have proven to be very therapeutic for the entire Jurado .

National Orange Blossom Day – June 27, 2021
National Orange Blossom Day, which is celebrated annually on June 27, is held in honor of this amazing white flower. Used in food, perfumes, and various other applications worldwide, the orange blossom adds a wonderful citrusy fragrance to products.
HISTORY OF NATIONAL ORANGE BLOSSOM DAY The white flower of the bitter orange tree — cousin to the sweet orange and lemon trees — is a native of India and China but has grown in sun-drenched lands for centuries. Today, it is found all over the Mediterranean Sea, from Italy to Spain, Morocco, and Tunisia.
Mythology states the orange tree symbolizes paradise and love, its white flowers are purity, and its fruit is fertility. The craze for this flower is reported to have spread throughout the Islamic empire, and it reached Spain in the ninth century. Three centuries later, this fragrant plant made its way to Sicily and then Provence, introduced by the Crusaders. In Rome, the orange blossom essence gained much popularity because of a nobleman’s wife, who would wear this essence everywhere. Quickly becoming fashionable, this scent spread throughout the French Court. King Louis XIV, who had been passionate about perfumes from a very young age, suffered from severe headaches. Only the mild and fragrant orange blossom scent soothed him; every other scent was too overpowering. By the time the orange blossom reached England, the world was already enthralled by its scent. Legends had spread around the continent of maidens entwining fresh orange blossoms into a bridal wreath for their hair. This even gave birth to the phrase ‘to gather orange blossoms’ which actually meant ‘to seek a wife.’
Since the time Queen Victoria wore a wreath of orange blossom at her wedding — an emblem of chastity at that time, royal brides have been associated with the orange blossom. Queen Victoria was said to be so enamored with this flower that her husband Prince Albert gifted her many precious pieces of jewelry shaped like this flower over the years. This love influenced many other royal brides; they all had orange blossoms as part of the design of their wedding dresses, including Queen Elizabeth! There is even a Royal Albert English china pattern called ‘Orange Blossom.’ This orange blossom motif only blossomed, appearing on wedding rings, other china patterns, and even furniture. Sheet music with titles like “Orange Blossoms Waltz” by G. Ludovic, “Orange Blossom Time is June” by George Spink and W.R. Williams, and “When It’s Orange Blossom Time in Loveland, I’ll Be Waiting at the Church for You” by Jeff Branen and Arthur Lange also became famous.
The Spaniards introduced the orange blossom to the Americas in the sixteenth century, to the state of Florida. The climate there was perfect to grow this crop, and citrus plants have been critical to Florida’s economy ever since. At the same time, the orange blossom craze was overpowering royal brides in the nineteenth century, citrus was being grown throughout the U.S.
Even today, this flower is seen as good luck, and frequently appears in bouquets and wreaths at weddings, apart from all of its versatile uses.

National PTSD Awareness Day – June 27, 2021
On June 27, we talk about PTSD, a complex disorder caused by experiencing or witnessing trauma. The trauma necessary to cause PTSD can originate from many events — potentially an accident, combat, a natural disaster, or an assault — but there are other ways PTSD symptoms can arise. A trained professional must diagnose PTSD, based on symptoms like hypervigilance, mood swings, recurring and involuntary flashbacks to the trauma, and avoidance. The National Center for PTSD declared all of June to be PTSD Awareness month — you can help their campaign by educating yourself and others about the illness, and sharing help with those who might need it.
HISTORY OF NATIONAL PTSD AWARENESS DAY PTSD in some form or another has long been documented in humans. The earliest known literature about the disorder is a poem from 50 BC. Hippocrates narrated a traumatic battle experience about a soldier who was haunted by PTSD-like combat flashbacks. PTSD has consistently been mentioned since then, notably during the Hundred Year’s War between England and France, and even in the literature of Shakespeare — including Romeo and Juliet.
A new understanding of PTSD came with the Civil War in the 1800s, as the disorder became widespread in the traumatized country. PTSD was known under a variety of names, including “railway spine.” It was in 1915 that some understanding of PTSD was formally introduced into medical literature, under the name “shell shock.”
World War 1 threw the disease into the spotlight, and rudimentary treatments, like electric shock therapy, were attempted. It wasn’t until the 1950s that more modern treatments, like group therapy, were introduced.
The Vietnam War issued in, yet again, a new understanding of the disorder. This coincided with research done by psychologists on both Holocaust victims and rape victims, which helped prove that many kinds of trauma can lead to PTSD.
Today, it’s considered largely treatable, so we’ve made a lot of progress. The Senate recognized June 27 as National PTSD Awareness Day at the urging of Senator Kent Conrad. Conrad wanted to honor a North Dakota National Guard member who had committed suicide after two tours of duty in Iraq. In 2014, the entire month of June was designated National PTSD Awareness Month by the Senate.

Pineapple Day - June 27, 2021
It’s our favorite fruit, a lush, prickly, green leafed ground fruit that is a delicious addition to just about any meal. It’s sweet and tangy on its own and is practically the definition of the word ‘tropical’. Want to make something tropical? Put a slice of this fruit on it. That’s right, we’re talking about the apple that isn’t an apple, the pine that isn’t a pine, the pineapple! Pineapple Day is dedicated to this most tantalizing little fruit and the greatest myth of all… It doesn’t grow on a tree. Didn’t know that? You’re hardly alone, most people think this prickly fruit hangs on a tree like a coconut, Nope!
History of Pineapple Day Pineapples are a tropical fruit native to the America’s, first found being consumed by the Tupi people. Their word for the fruit perfectly describes everyone’s reaction to this amazingly tangy treat, nanas “Excellent Fruit”. Pineapples are actually herbaceous perennials, meaning they are leafy, not woody, plants that grow for more than two years.
These plants are so ambitious in their growth that if you cut the fruit off of one stalk, it grows multiple more stalk called ‘suckers’ to produce more fruit! More than one pineapple per plant, that’s amazing! Since their discovery pineapples have been transported all over the world, as one of their unique traits is that, once harvested, they tend to not continue to ripen. This gives them an amazing shelf life and lets them remain stored on a shelf for quite some time.
Pineapples are useful in so many things, from a stand-alone treat all on their own, to producing a very tasty fruit beverage full of vitamin C. If you’re the sort who likes a rich tropical beverage to cool you down on a hot day, then the Pineapple is half of the perfect solution, the Pina Colada… (And getting caught in the rain).

Industrial Workers Of The World Day - June 27, 2021
With the modernization of industry, a move from manufacturing to consumerism and a general shift in global market operations, industrial processes and businesses are much less common than they used to be. As such, it’s easy to overlook just how big a part industry still plays, and how many people are employed by industrial organizations working in industrial roles.
Industrial Workers Of The World Day draws attention to these workers, and to their importance in producing the goods that we consume and rely on, as well as the organization that represents them, the I.W.W., or as they’re known colloquially “The Wobblies.”
History of Industrial Workers Of The World Day Tensions in the industrial world were high when the Wobblies first came into existence. They were founded as an international labor union in 1905 Chicago. During the following decades they achieved many of their goals, working to cut across guild and union lines to get workers organized to defend their rights and fight for fair treatment.
The fight wasn’t always peaceful, in fact in 1919 on the day of the Armstice Day parade a gunfight broke out between the Wobblies and the American Legion, resulting in the death of the town deputy and the arrest of multiple members of the IWW. Most notably Wesley Everest, who was lynched by a mob that night from a local overpass. Such was the price that was paid to ensure that International Workers get treated fairly.
