Log Cabin Day - June 27, 2021
Back in the early days of the world, people built homes out of strong and sturdy logs. Carefully notched together and sealed in-between with a caulking agent like mud or clay, Log Cabins were sturdy and reliable, and could stand the test of time.
Admittedly, you’d have to change the roof out every so often, but ultimately there was nothing like them. They were especially popular in the frontier days of the American migration west, and seven of the American Presidents were born in them.
Log Cabin Day celebrates the history of the Log Cabin and commemorates this most humble of homes.
History of Log Cabin Day Log Cabin day was originated by the Log Cabin Society (go figure) in corroboration with the Bad Axe Historical society. Each year people go out to help preserve historical log cabins so that they can be maintained for the future and hold on to the artifacts and memories that make them so important.
So important to the American History and idea of humility is the Log Cabin that the Whigs, American Colonists who supported the American Revolution, used it as the symbol of William Henry Harrisons campaign to show that he was a simple man of the people.
Log Cabins go back a lot further than just the America’s though, anywhere there were tall sturdy timbers the Log Cabin became a mainstay of habitation. The Wood Museum in Trondheim displays multiple forms of log cabin, fourteen in total.
But Log cabins appeared all over the northern reaches of Europe in an incredible range of styles. Sometimes the outside was even hewn flat so that siding could be put on, and occasionally the interior was given the same treatment to make the way for wallpaper, lath, or plaster. Log Cabins are just that versatile, no wonder they’re still a loved form of home to this day.

National Alaska Day – June 28, 2021
The largest state to join the U.S. and its last frontier to boot; is it any wonder we have a special day — National Alaska Day, held on June 28 each year — to celebrate this amazing place?
HISTORY OF NATIONAL ALASKA DAY While the origins and founder of National Alaska Day remain elusive at the moment, we know plenty about how Alaska came to be a part of the U.S.
Long before the Russians settled in this Arctic land, it was populated by indigenous people from tribes like Inuit, Yupik, Tlingit, and others. They hunted and lived on whale fat, beaver, and fish. Then, the Russians came and settled in Alaska, leaving only after 68 years of ruling.
The history of U.S. rule in Alaska began with the setting up of a transcontinental telegraph line in Sitka, Alaska. The U.S. wanted to expand their territory, and the Russians wanted to leave — the decimated sea otter population meant this land was no longer profitable, and Russia was short on money after the Crimean War, making Alaska hard to defend. William Seward, the state’s secretary at that time, was the main hand behind the purchase. Alaska was purchased at $7.2 million. His championing of this cause was so prominent, the vast majority of Americans who thought this purchase was a mistake took to calling Alaska “Seward’s Folly.”
Then, in the 18th century, two prospectors found gold at the Klondike region, and thus began the gold rush era in Alaska. Numbers indicate upwards of 10,000 fortune seekers that were headed for goldfields at Klondike, and the beaches at Nome in western Alaska, another place where gold was found. The newfound popularity of this region was cemented by its strategic position during the Second World War. When the Japanese invaded the Aleutian Islands, parts of which are U.S. territory and parts belonging to the Russian federal subject of Kamchatka Krai, the American army had already been stationed there, ready to protect their border. After the Civil War, this Aleutian campaign — called the ‘One Thousand Mile War’ — was the first such battle fought on American soil. Alaska remained a territory until the 19th century when it became a U.S. state.
The 19th century also brought dog sledding to the forefront of American consciousness. A deadly outbreak of diphtheria in Nome threatened the lives of every single person living there. Additionally, the place was so isolated, that assisting them was very hard. This situation was worsened by an approaching blizzard, which ruled out air assistance. The only way to deliver an antitoxin was via sled dogs. Enter Leonhard Seppala. His fellow Norwegian Jafet Lindeberg — who struck rich in Nome — asked Leonhard Seppala to come work with him in his Pioneer Mining Company. Records indicate Seppala regretted this decision on account of the work being difficult. That is, until the day he became a sled dog driver, mushing supplies. A team of 20 was assembled, including that of Leonhard Seppala, who was a venerated musher by then. While the lead dog, Balto, became famous, many argue it was actually Seppala and his lead dog, Togo, who were the true saviors that day.

National Insurance Awareness Day – June 28, 2021
Insurance is one of those things we forget about until we need it, kind of like a spare tire. This is why National Insurance Awareness Day exists and is celebrated every year on June 28. While the origin of this day is a mystery, what’s widely known is how important insurance is in many aspects of our lives. From car insurance, to life insurance, to home insurance and more, these policies offer a layer of protection to guard us from feeling the harshest of blows by unfortunate events.
A 401(k) plan is also a sort of insurance plan for your retirement which is much easier to manage and also contributed by your employer.

National Logistics Day – June 28, 2021
National Logistics Day is celebrated on June 28 every year to honor the work of the hardworking professionals in the logistics sector. It plays a huge role in the progress of the economy, especially in a country as large as the United States. Everything that you order online reaches you through a vast network of distributors, shippers, and transporters who take care that you receive the correct item on time and in perfect condition, regardless of the distance or weather.
HISTORY OF NATIONAL LOGISTICS DAY The first National Logistics Day was celebrated in the year 2019 and was initiated by a company called Logistics Plus. Even though National Logistics Day is a very recent development, the links that make up the modern world of logistics have been in place for centuries for as long as people began trading with each other.
Logistics Plus is one of the most dynamic American logistics firms, based in Erie, Pennsylvania. Its distribution network is spread across the country as it helps to deliver goods from manufacturers in more than 50 countries to customers in the United States. Considering the important role that logistics plays in supporting economic growth, the company began the practice of celebrating National Logistics Day on June 28 every year.
It is believed that in ancient times, trade between China and Europe was carried out through caravans that traveled across Central Asia and by sea through a chain of ports spread throughout the Pacific, Indian, and Atlantic Oceans. It would take months for valuable goods like silk, porcelain, and spices to reach merchants in Europe after making stops in the East Indies, India, and the Arabian Peninsula.
Pioneers and explorers such as Vasco Da Gama and Christopher Columbus played a valuable role in finding new trade routes. Innovations such as the steam engine helped to reduce the time required to ship goods. Modern preservation methods ensure that products do not get spoiled during transport, which makes it possible for Americans to enjoy goods produced in any part of the world.

National Paul Bunyan Day – June 28, 2021
This is a day dedicated to one of America’s most famous folklore heroes — National Paul Bunyan Day comes along only once a year, on June 28! We’re dusting off our old books about this mighty lumberjack and adding a bit of nostalgia to our day. Come, join us!
HISTORY OF NATIONAL PAUL BUNYAN DAY The character Paul Bunyan was brought to life by the stories lumberjacks from the Northeastern United States and Eastern Canada told, way back in the 18th century. They were all told orally and no original written account exists in the world. Even the etymology of the name is unknown, but some people believe it is related to the Québécois expression ‘bon yenne!,’ which is an exclamation of surprise or astonishment. Logging bunkhouses continued with the tradition of telling Paul Bunyan stories for decades after that, embellishing it with more and more details to make this lumberjack larger than life. Along the way, he also gained a companion, a giant blue-colored ox called Babe the Blue Ox, who was said to be a gift from Paul’s fellow woodsmen, Davy Crockett and Daniel Boone.
Paul Bunyan’s story was first written down by a journalist, James MacGillivray. However, this character was popularized by freelance writer and adman William Laughead when he created an advertising campaign for a logging company using Paul Bunyan stories. Soon, this character’s myth and tales spread far and wide around the U.S. and Canada, and he began to feature in many other promotional campaigns for products, services, and cities. Even today, many U.S. cities in the north-central side claim the title of being Paul Bunyan’s official home. Statues were erected in various places — a 26 foot tall animated Paul Bunyan at an amusement park in Minnesota as well as a 49-foot tall statue of Bunyan and a 35-foot statue of Babe the Blue Ox in Klamath, California — to honor this folktale.
Unlike most other folklore heroes, Paul Bunyan has an origin story. As the story goes, five storks were needed to carry this large newborn. As he became older, when he clapped his hands and laughed, windows shook and shattered. Another tale has him sawing the wooden legs off of his parents’ bed in the middle of the night — when he was only seven months old! Over the years, many theories about who Paul Bunyan is based on have been thought up and rejected. Some believe Bunyan was based on a French-Canadian logger named Fabian ‘Joe’ Fournier, who moved to Michigan after the American Civil War. He was strongly built with giant hands and was above six feet in height. Some time during this period, stories about Fournier merged with tales about a French-Canadian war hero named Bon Jean, and many believe Bunyan’s name comes from ‘Bon Jean’.
Today, stories about Paul Bunyan have appeared in more than 1,000 books; and this character is renowned as one of the most popular and recognizable characters in American folklore.

National Tapioca Day – June 28, 2021
We’re bubbling with excitement to tell you about National Tapioca Day on June 28 when you can explore this less popular – though no less delicious – carb. Made from the cassava plant, tapioca is versatile, though tapioca pudding is the most popular American dish made with this ingredient, including savory dinner dishes. Tapioca pudding combines tapioca pearls with liquid to form a delicious, creamy mix. For many, tapioca is a love/hate relationship. Perhaps once as a child, you plunged your spoon into it, expecting the smooth vanilla pudding you’re used to. Instead, you got a mouthful of squishiness. Such an experience could leave you traumatized and wary of the dessert for years to come. If this rings true for you, then National Tapioca Day is your time to be brave and give it another try. If you’re in the camp that has been a fan of tapioca from day one, then you’ll have no problem celebrating. Maybe you’re even a connoisseur, and can already tell falooda from taho. Either way, June 28 will bring ample opportunity to either expand your palette and try something new, or spend time savoring a long-time favorite.

Tau Day – June 28, 2021
Tau Day is celebrated on June 28. Once we know the story of this mathematical constant, we never look at a circle the same way again. Many people are aware that pi is the ratio of the circumference of any circle to the diameter of the circle, but there is a growing movement in favor of a new ratio taking its place — tau. Tau is considered more accurate than pi, despite pi’s popularity. What’s even more interesting is a rumored conspiracy that the powers that be are holding steadfast to the concept of pi. Read on to learn more.
HISTORY OF TAU DAY The first known use of tau was approximated by Archimedes in the third century. He was born in the Greek city-state of Syracuse on the island of Sicily. Archimedes was known as one of the greatest scientists of the classical age, who, among many other things, calculated pi to the most precise value known. Pi is defined as the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter as is tau, but some believe that Archimedes’ work would have been all the better if he had relied more on tau than pi.
During the eighteenth century, Leonhard Euler used the Greek letter π to represent the ratio of pi itself and for many years it has remained as the quintessential constant circle. This helped people understand circles, triangles, and other principles of geometry. It was a useful device that served its purpose well, but a new voice would define it as inelegant a couple of centuries later.
The tau movement was founded by the former University of Utah math professor Robert Palais who believed that tau simplified the math. Palais noticed that something was off with pi when calculating the sine of π/2 and the image he saw didn’t add up to the calculations. From this, he knew that pi wasn’t the way. Palais published his findings in a 2001 article titled “π is Wrong” in the “Mathematical Intelligencer.” He noted that Euler went back and forth between tau and pi, but pi became the accepted constant. Palais then proposed tau was superior and he used the pi symbol with an extra leg to represent it, and it eventually became an uppercase T.
On June 28, 2010, “The Tau Manifesto” launched at the same time as the first Tau Day. “The Tau Manifesto” was a book written by Michael Hart that was dedicated to the lesser-known number. In it, pi is referred to as unnatural and confusing. Pi compares a circle’s circumference with its diameter, and many mathematicians are disinterested in this quantity whereas tau is the number that connects a circumference to that quantity. The day is used to celebrate all of mathematics, but tau specifically still has an uphill battle in receiving recognition.

Wimbledon – June 28, 2021
Wimbledon, the oldest and most prestigious tennis championship in the world, begins this year on June 28 and ends on July 11. The London-based event takes place on grass — the only Grand Slam event to do so. Both the Australian Open and the US Open are hardcourt events; Roland Garros (the French Open) occurs on clay. The Wimbledon draw consists of 128 men and and 128 women in the singles events, as well as 64 men’s and women’s doubles teams each. Ashleigh Barty and Novak Djokovic (above) are the top seeds, but get set for plenty of surprises at the All England Club.
Wimbledon quirks: Strict fashion rules require all players to wear white — and players do not compete on the “middle Sunday” of the event (July 5 this year).
Wimbledon first took place in 1877.

International Body Piercing Day - June 28th, 2021
Throughout the world body modification has been used for many purposes, from self-expression, to rites of passage, shock value, even religious observances. There has been a growing movement in the western world driving body modification to the forefront of popular forms of expression and self-decoration. The history of body piercing isn’t clear, as there is a lot of misleading information out there, but there is significant indicators that it has been practiced by both men and women since prehistory. Body Piercing Day is an opportunity for you to find a new way to express yourself with this age old practice.
Ear Piercing has been well known in Western Cultures for at least the last couple hundred years, and the evidence of it goes back quite a bit further, with evidence of ears and nose being pierced being discovered in the graves of many cultures, even as far back as 5,000 years ago. It was a well-known way of sending wealth along with the dead into the next life, and honoring them in their burial site.
But this is just the tip of the proverbial iceberg, lip and tongue piercings have been present in throughout the world, particularly well documented in African and American tribal cultures. Nipple can be tracked back at least as far the Ancient Romans, while genital piercing made a perhaps unexpected debut in Ancient India.
Body Piercing Day is originally dedicated to Jim Ward, often heralded as “the granddaddy of the body piercing movement”. Jim Ward has been an incredibly influential part of the new body modification movement, with a specific focus on body piercing. He has been part of the forward driving force for piercings in the western world, and helped to develop the basic techniques for piercing, with a special focus on genital piercings.
He is directly responsible for introducing the incredibly popular barbell piercing style to the US, the internal threading style of them was a vast improvement over existing piercing techniques. This technique he picked up from ‘Tattoo Samy’ from Frankfurt, who had come to visit him a number of times in the US after this.
Body Piercing Day is a great opportunity to finally take the plunge, and get yourself that piercing you’ve been contemplating. With the ability to choose from the ever growing selection of piercings, from ear piercings, nose piercings, lip, and cheek piercings, you can display your individuality with a piece that’s meaningful to you.
Those are just the ones that are easily visible, when you take into account nipple piercings, the always sexy belly-button piercing, and the incredibly daring variety of genital piercings, there are tons of options for enhancing your life in some rather creative ways. Recent innovations have also brought into light the ‘dermal’, where a circle of skin is essentially punched out of your skin, and a mounting plate slipped under the surface. These can be placed just about anywhere on the body, but are quite common at the top of the sternum, with sparkling jewels or a loop ring being fastened on.
Body Piercing Day is a day to join the ever growing number of people who have started getting piercings. In England in 2005, a survey was done that revealed that 10% of people over the age of 16 have piercings in locations other than their earlobe. Women, as usual, are leading the charge in the newest form of fashion, and the men aren’t far behind. Body Piercing Day is your day to be daring, so get out there and get pierced!

Ceviche Day - June 28, 2021
For those who are partial to a bit of fresh and delicious seafood on their plates, then a must-try dish is ceviche! Most popular in the Caribbean regions and on the coast of Latin America, ceviche (sometimes spelled cebiche) is a meal that is made from raw, fresh fish that has been cured with lemon or lime juices (or sometimes both) for a tasty, citrusy flavor. Not only that, but the acidity of the lime or lemon actually works to “cook” the fish so there is no need for heat.
Depending on where the ceviche is eaten, it may be found served up with chopped onions, cilantro and a dash of salt. It is often dished out with side dishes of vegetables such as lettuce, avocado and sweet potato, just to name a few.
On Ceviche Day, it’s time to discover the fishy goodness that is this tasty, seaborn dish!
History of Ceviche Day Any good food should certainly get its own day of observance, and this one is no exception. Although it is popular in some parts of the world, it might not be so well-known in other places. However, this day is meant to make sure people can find out exactly what they have been missing out on!
Ceviche, or at least something very similar to it, looks to have been eaten way back 2000 years ago, according to archeological records. In fact, according to some historians, the meal was brought to Peru by the Moorish women of Granada. It started out at the time in the form of a dish that would eventually become what is known today as ceviche.
The United States started serving up this meal in around the 1980s and, as such, it may be found prepared in a number of different ways if it is sought out throughout North America.
Traditionally, ceviche is prepared by marinating fish in a citrus mixture, but there are many different variants of the way it is ultimately presented for consumption. In Ecuador, it might be found to be more soup-like in appearance, whereas in Mexico it can be found served with tortillas. Ceviche is especially loved in Peru, where it is generally considered to be part of the national heritage and is often referred to as their national dish.

Please Take My Children To Work Day - June 28, 2021
You know who doesn’t get enough credit? Moms. Listen, we know they get a LOT of credit, but if you stop to consider all the things they have to manage in the day, they really DON’T get all the credit they deserve. For the traditional mom they stay home and take care of the kids and , they keep your home and laundry clean, and they serve as nurse-maid and counselor when things just aren’t going right.
History of Please Take My Children To Work Day You know what else they don’t get enough of? Time off. It’s even worse for those who work! They have to manage all of the above (hopefully with the help of their husbands, if they want a happy marriage) and do all the normal mom things! So that’s what Please Take My Children To Work Day is all about, making sure they get some well-deserved time off. This is really the non-mom partner to shine by taking their children to work.
Taking them to work gives them great opportunities to experience the world at large, to really find out what it means to hold a job and what their parents do all day. Even better, it gives mom a great day off while the children learn valuable life skills. Even better, it lets the other parent get some time to hang out with them and build a relationship with them.
Taking them to work gives them great opportunities to experience the world at large, to really find out what it means to hold a job and what their parents do all day. Even better, it gives mom a great day off while the children learn valuable life skills.
Even better, it lets the other parent get some time to hang out with them and build a relationship with them. This days importance can’t be understated, as the imbalance between parents has been observed pretty clearly. While moms get out trying to learn how to better care for their kids, some husbands don’t realize that this isn’t time off, they need to get out, have fun, and relax. Please Take My Children To Work Day is a time to honor all they do by giving them a much-needed break.

Happy Heart Hugs Day - June 28, 2021
What day is it? Well, today it’s Happy Heart Hugs Day!
What does that mean? Well, it means it’s time to get super snuggly and lovely dovey with the people you really love – lots of happy hearty hugs all round!
If you’re a bit of a humbug, you probably won’t be up for celebrating this super squishy, loved up day. But if you like hugs and cuddles, and telling people that you love how much they really mean to you, then this day is all about you and those wonderful people in your life!
History of Happy Heart Hugs Day Happy Heart Hugs Day was created by a dog – or at least, his owners.
Archie Brindleton, a super happy and super cute French bulldog inspired this day, presumably because as a dog he is full of happy hugs himself.
Today was made ‘for anybuddy that fills your heart with happy that is not close enough for regular-type hugs’, according to Archie himself. That means sending love to those most special in your life – a long-distance hug! A super, squishy cuddly one!
Anybody who you love, anyone who you think deserves some love, anyone you see as being a bit of an inspiration, or anyone you are just thankful to have in your life but you maybe don’t see as often as you would like. These are all people that could benefit from your happy heart hugs on Happy Heart Hugs Day!
The reason Happy Heart Hugs Day falls on the 28th June every year is because this was the day that Archie’s owners first brought him home. How cute is that?

National Waffle Iron Day – June 29, 2021
National Waffle Iron Day is celebrated on June 29 every year as a way to celebrate the invention of this amazing device that allows millions of Americans to enjoy their breakfast. Waffle irons are found across homes in the United States and are used to make many varieties of waffles, ranging from the simple waffle to the fancier and more modern takes on this favorite breakfast food.
HISTORY OF NATIONAL WAFFLE IRON DAY Waffles are believed to have originated in Belgium and so it is likely that the waffle iron, or at least a primitive version of it, was also invented in Belgium or its surrounding regions in the Middle Ages. In fact, the early waffle irons were quite versatile and were designed to prepare different types of breakfast foods.
When Dutch and other Europeans began immigrating to America, they brought waffles to the New World and it became a common breakfast meal. In fact, President Thomas Jefferson is known to have been quite fond of waffles as he kept a collection of waffle recipes and even had his own iron waffle maker.
In 1869, the first-ever American patent for the waffle iron was given to Cornelius Swarthout, whereas the first electric waffle iron was invented by Thomas Stackbeck in the year 1911. The traditional form of waffles, consisting of an egg batter cooked in a waffle iron and topped with cream and berries did not become popular until 1964 when it was sold at the World’s Fair in New York.
While it is not known when the first National Waffle Iron Day was held or who proclaimed it, it should not deter us from celebrating it with much fervor and enthusiasm. After all, there are many traditions whose origins are yet to be discovered but Americans still celebrate them with every bit of national pride. As waffle irons continue to evolve in different shapes and sizes, they remain a staple of almost every household in America.

National Camera Day – June 29, 2021
Smile! National Camera Day is June 29, a day to celebrate the fact that photography, once so complicated it took a scientist to understand, is now part of our everyday lives. The word “photography” is based on two Greek words that, when put together, mean “writing with light.’” It’s a beautiful way of describing what a camera lets us do — tell a story without the use of words. It all goes back more than 800 years to the invention of the camera obscura. Meaning “dark chamber,” the camera obscura was nothing more than a box with a hole on one side. Light would pass through the hole and into the dark interior of the box, where it would project an image onto the flat inner surface. Unfortunately, when the light was gone, the image disappeared — like Instagram, but without an actual photo. Fast-forward through the centuries to today, when everyone with a smartphone has a camera at their fingertips. Whether you love shooting film and changing lenses or prefer the ease of digital, use June 29 to focus on how cameras have made telling our stories easier than ever.

National Almond Buttercrunch Day – June 29, 2021
National Almond Buttercrunch Day is an annual event that is celebrated on June 29 every year. It is a day that commemorates the much-loved dessert topping, the different ways in which it is prepared, and the unique ways of enjoying it in different regions of the country. People love to sprinkle it on cakes and sweets while others love adding it to their coffee. Whichever way you like to have it, National Almond Buttercrunch Day is not a day to be missed.
HISTORY OF NATIONAL ALMOND BUTTERCRUNCH DAY Buttercrunch is a type of hard candy that is often had as a standalone dessert or to garnish other desserts. It uses a simple recipe that combines toffee, chocolate, and sugar to give a luxurious texture to your desserts. Adding almonds to the mix enhances the texture by making it richer and grainier.
Since butter is the main ingredient in almond buttercrunch, it is believed that the candy originated in Northern Europe, which is known for its rich and ancient butter-making traditions. During the 19th century, sugar was more easily available, so the approximate date of the origin of buttercrunch can be placed in the early 19th century.
In the United States, almond buttercrunch became commercially available in the early 20th century since, by that time, the technology for mass production of hard candy had become quite widespread. Moreover, people were fond of this dessert, which was popular across the Atlantic as well. Nowadays, with the spread of online food channels and the popular appeal of homely desserts, many people are being drawn to handmade toffee and buttercrunch.
Celebrating National Almond Buttercrunch Day is a cultural tradition and it provides an opportunity to learn about how the techniques of making it have evolved over more than a century ago. The exact year when National Almond Buttercrunch Day was first celebrated is not documented, which makes it hard to know how far this tradition extends. However, given the fact that it continues to be celebrated today, we can be sure that it is a much-loved part of American culture.

Hug Holiday – June 29, 2021
Hugging is a simple way to express many different types of affection, from friendly, to intimate, to familial. It’s an action largely limited to primates — while we can find instances of other animals in positions that resemble hugging, there aren’t any other species that do it so frequently, and for so many reasons — and so, in many ways, hugging sets us apart from the rest of the animal kingdom. It’s not just a differentiator, though: studies show that hugging releases oxytocin, known as the “cuddle hormone,” which can help to strengthen social bonds. So, on June 29, we celebrate Hug Holiday. Get your hug on today!

World Industrial Design Day – June 29, 2021
Industrial designers envision products that fill homes, offices, hospitals, and schools. These visionaries serve diverse working environments and create innovations to help serve the leaders of the global economy.
They work tirelessly and out of sight to give people the best tools of the trade. World Industrial Design Day is a day dedicated to the industrial designers that create the vision of the future.
This holiday is for teaching people about the history of industrial design and potentially getting people interested in the profession.
History of World Industrial Design Day Industrial design is the profession of designing products for millions of people every day. Almost every product used in a person’s home today was invented by designers working hard to make sure that people can live their lives easier. The profession began during the early 19th century when the industrial revolution began in Britain.
The Great Exhibition was held in 1851 as one of the first exhibitions to showcase industrial design on an international scale, helping influence the United States in their mass production.
People such as Robert Lepper, Herbert Reed, Robert Venturi, and Joseph Claude Sinel have all greatly influenced the world of industrial design. They crafted effective equipment that has helped shape the modern generation. Cars, phones, toasters, you name it.
All of those products have touched the hands of one industrial designer to another, been thought over, and executed so you can have the best quality of life.
The first World Industrial Design Day occurred in 2007. This represented 50 years since the establishment of the World Design Organization. Back then, though, it was known as the International Council of Societies of Industrial Design (Icsid). Irrespective of the name, it has always been a worldwide organization, which is not tied to any governments, and promotes the industrial design profession, as well as the ability for better experiences, services, systems, and products to be produced.
It is all about better industry and business, helping us to ultimately create a society and environment that is better. When it was founded in 1957, there were 12 founding professional design associations. This has grown considerably over the years, with more than 170 members from 40 different nations. All of these organizations engage in collaborative efforts so that they have the chance to be heard around the world.

International Mud Day – June 29, 2021
Mud. It seems like a nuisance, doesn’t it? As soon as it rains, mud is everywhere, and it literally gets all over everything. There are definitely no benefits this slippery, sticky dirty substance could offer, right? Wrong. And the creators of International Mud Day are out to prove it! After all, mud is quintessential to the outdoors, and the outdoors mean fresh air and exercise, two of the best things for people. And so what if we get a little dirty? Plenty of research has shown that coming into contact with a certain amount of bacteria is good for us, as it helps build up immunity, as opposed to living in a virtually sterile environment, which makes our bodies very vulnerable. Not to mention how many minerals mud can—there’s a reason why people pay hundreds of dollars for mud masks and baths at spas. So what are you waiting for? Let’s get dirty!
History of International Mud Day The creators of International Mud Day wanted to find a way to help all of the children of the Earth feel closer to each other…and what a better way to do it than through the Earth itself? International Mud Day began in 2009 at a World Forum event, when Gillian McAuliffe from Australia and Bishnu Bhatta from Nepal got together to talk about ways to encourage feelings of community and appreciation for the world around us. The collaboration that followed has inspired educators, children, and families across the globe, from Holland to Nepal to the United States, to celebrate International Mud Day together each year on June 29. Regardless of age, race and religion, covered in mud, we all look the same!

National Meteor Watch Day – June 30, 2021
Celebrate National Meteor Watch Day on June 30 by finding out as much as you can about the phenomenon and the impact it leaves on Earth. For starters, let’s look at what meteors are. Have you ever seen movies where the actors are busy searching for shooting stars in the sky? Well, that’s just a fancy name for a meteorite! These ‘shooting’ or ‘falling’ stars come from the solar system and are actually broken fragments of asteroids. Fun fact — these fragments can take millions of years before they hit Earth. To find out more about the day, do a quick google search OR simply continue reading!
HISTORY OF NATIONAL METEOR WATCH DAY Meteors are also known as ‘space rocks’ since they fall on Earth from space. However, when these rocks enter our atmosphere, they are quite noticeable since they leave a glowing streak in the sky. Meteors were also defined as “solid objects moving in interplanetary space” in 1961 by the International Astronomical Union.
Meteors have existed since time immemorial — it just took scientists time to discover their existence. Meteors gained a lot of traction in the 19th century and became the study of many astronomers such as Dennis Olmsted who began analyzing meteor showers in order to understand their origins. In 1866, scientists like Hubert A. Newton began to make predictions regarding the next meteor shower. Studying meteors is also essential to determine the solar system’s history.
Another fact about meteors that had people intrigued was that they vary in size and weight. Some are huge and weigh over 60 tons, while others are as small as pebbles that we can hold in our hands. The largest meteorite to hit our planet was found in 1920 in Namibia. The space rock was nine feet across, weighed 60 tons, and was made out of an alloy of iron and nickel. But this isn’t all, some meteors also fall to Earth with a dramatic entry that often causes destruction and death. These meteors are known as fireballs. Finally, the craters we see on the moon were caused by meteors!

International Asteroid Day – June 30, 2021
On June 30, International Asteroid Day will have everyone looking toward the skies. The holiday was founded after the 2014 release of the film 51 Degrees North, which explores what would happen if an asteroid were to strike London. The film’s creative team (many of whom are scientists) wanted to raise more awareness about the threat of asteroids to earth, and how we can help protect ourselves. To make that happen, they formed a foundation, and in 2015, they celebrated the world’s first International Asteroid Day. There are over one million asteroids in space that could potentially strike the earth, but modern scientists have only discovered about one percent of them. To combat this, Asteroid Day’s founders, as well as a host of accomplished scientists, created the 100X Asteroid Declaration. The declaration aims for scientists to work to increase the rate of asteroid discovery to 100,000 per year within a decade. International Asteroid Day focuses on spreading the word of the declaration and helping fellow Earthlings prepare for a potential asteroid impact.
