How, Why and When to get a second BFG account. You must read this if you have purchased a lot of games! And bookmark this thread for future use would be wise.
This has been chatted about already but more and more are reaching the DANGER point of being cut off from accessing your purchase history or your game manager not acting appropriately. I did this and have had no trouble with either account
* If you have around 900 - 1000 games on your PURCHASE HISTORY... you are in the zone! Its time to get a second account. It is a slight hassle but not as much as being locked out and not being able to access your games anymore. It is a BFG glitch they just haven't ever fixed. It happens for sure pretty much on 1000 games.
* It is a good idea to contact customer support and let them know you are about to do this so you have some help or backup if anything doesn't quite go as planned. And you may pick up some coupons for the hassle of having to take this step
*You will need: A new user name (I went joybelle2 instead of joybelle1)
A DIFFERENT EMAIL ADDRESS to the one on your original account. (this may be a nuisance but I had two anyway)
* You can enter the EXACT same home address and billing. (same bank etc)
*Once you have set up..you WILL NOT get a new gamemanager… all games you buy using your new account will slot in between the games you already have listed on your GM. The game manager is NOT the original problem, it is the SIZE of your PURCHASE HISTORY. But if you get locked out of that the GM will get its own problems. SO...CULL YOUR GM AND KEEP ITS NUMBERS BELOW THIS TOO. Your games will still be on your purchase history ready to download and they will return to your GM again. Its chickens and eggs but you need your purchase history to function to keep your GM functioning properly. Even if BFG remove games, if they are on your purchase history and you keep it alive....you can still download them forever.
I now have all my old games listed under my original email address 'joybelle1's account'..and all new games I buy are on 'joybelle2's' account
The only thing you have to watch is that if you flip between accounts to download old games, you MUST have the GM signed in to the account you bought it with or you will get an error code, so you have to remember to sign in the GM to MATCH the account you are using.
I actually stay signed in on two different browsers to help me remember which one I am using...so if I bring up IE I have my original account listed in my favourites and it brings up 'joybelle1' on the BFG page. If I bring up BFG from Chrome, it brings up 'joybelle2's account on the BFG page. But you can just sign in and out on both your BFG account or your GM if you want to do it just the same way as always.
The gamemanager stays signed in on the LAST time you used it. So if you go back and download an old game from your purchase history and original account and are signed in as that name, you will need to go back and sign in again on IT as your NEW account email to buy and download NEW games using your new second account... The point is you are never adding to your old accounts number of games. Your first account simply becomes a library of your already purchased games to be used when you want them.
And that's it. If you only buy NEW games on your second account your original will just sit there working forever. Also remember if you are a gameclub member to take up your monthly billing to your NEW account and CANCEL the fee on your old one. I took up the first month free on my second..so I got let off a months billing too. I am told your 'free games' on the original account will work on the new one, but I cleared my original with fingers crossed so I don't know.
Its not as hard as it seems. Basically just come up with a new user name and a different email. Transfer your gameclub fees and you are done. And take it from poor pennmom ...it is a BIG hassle once you get locked out..there is no backtracking or fixability, so bite the bullet early before it happens and get your second account if you are in the 'danger zone' 'Cull' the games on your GM that you are not playing regularly...they will just 'come back' when you download again from your PHistory. Keep the numbers DOWN on both.
There are NO second chances or fixes. YOU WILL GET NO WARNING
I now have well over 1000 games split between my two accounts and they both work fine and I still have access to now removed games because I had already purchased them. (how many of them still play because they need flashplayer or are too old to work on Windows ten is another story again)...but this is how to get around the numbers glitch of the PURCHASE HISTORY. And keep your GM well under 1000 always TOO! as your new games are added to the old one still even with a new account. (that's easy)
* A big thankyou to pennmom for being the pioneer who took the blows and first alerted us to this terrible occurance.
