dillonamazonThis is where we'll post comments about the game. If you have any questions just ask, we all had a first time playing a group play at some point. It's not a contest it's just meant to be fun!

I've got a tips guide at Pond Friends if you are a member there (forum is no longer viewable by guests unfortunately). Don't actually have this game on my current PC, but did solve all the puzzles several times in the past and know where to find all the secrets too...or at least I used to LOL. There is more than 1 solution to some of the puzzles (Devil's Triangle is the most obvious one with several possibilities, but the Sun Maze and the big circular maze which appear somewhere later also have more than 1 solution). There is a built-in WT in the game, but if you don't want to completely cheat your way out - plus I think looking at the WT dings your final ranking upon finishing the game - I can probably give you some hints. Heh, I might have to go d/l the game to my new PC and play again for the heck of it.
This game isn't actually truly scary in case you're easily frightened, but does have a lot of occult imagery in case that's not your thing. Awesome puzzles though! :D
If you have the Steam version or the version which was released on DVD-ROM, the highest rank "Mysterium Master" isn't available even if you do play the game perfectly due to a bug. It was fixed apparently only in the BFG version. Go figure!

pennmom , did you invite him here? He doesn't seem to spend much time online; the last I'd heard was they're still working on Dr. Arcana 2 but life kept on getting in the way. I'm wondering if he will do another YouTube Halloween puzzle video like he did last year. That puzzle was a blast to solve and it actually took me 2 attempts over a few days because I missed one little piece of the solution.

My granddaughter woke up croup-like, coughing, fever, sore throat this morning and DIL made a doctors appointment at 10:30 so I have to run down the street (literally 3 minutes away lol) to stay with Collin who is taking a nap ZZZzzz. I will return to these blasted evil doors and cabinets as soon as possible
I'm curious, has anyone ever clicked NO at the beginning of the game? Does it let you restart the game under the same profile or do you have to create a new profile?

As for the clicking "no", I did actually try that once just to see what would happen and the answer is:
{Spoiler (click to show)} You can still go back into the game with the same player name and you're simply back inside the mansion at the opening scene as if you'd clicked "Yes". Guess Dr. Arcana hedged his bet on any mortal who manages to get through the first 2 puzzles despite his warning about "never being able to return". LOL I call that a reward for getting past the first 2 puzzles, which I remember seeing commentary about how some couldn't figure those out even!

So, a group of meager mortals dare to test their skills in Arcana Manor yet again? Though the honor is high indeed, I would think that one excursion into my mansion of mysteries would have been enough to befuddle your brains. You really must be gluttons for punishment, or perhaps you’re merely sharpening your puzzle-solving skills to prepare for what lies in wait within the ancient halls of Shadowspire. Whatever the case may be, rest assured that I shall be watching you closely to lend my gracious guidance and gentle words of encouragement to help you along your mission. No need to thank me. Just try to enjoy yourselves while being consistently confused by my confounding conundrums.
Darkest Wishes, Doctor Arcana

Arcana, dear, you have forgotten I am your bride and have wandered your hallowed halls sans confusion multiple times. My alter ego is another story as I have not been able to get rid of her. Take us to Shadowspire soon so I may try again.

Oooooooooooohhhh, my little brain hurts! I've finally made it at least to the Inner Sanctum and the upstairs area but my poor mind definitely needs a break at this point. And I must admit I felt really dumb at the beginning till I eventually learned 2 "obvious" things that any idiot should have realized immediately (....and yes, I do take some comfort in realizing I'm not just ANY idiot - I must be some sort of special one that it took me so long to grasp the obvious!) - When it seems like you've looked at everything you possibly can at the spot you are at & still have no clue what to do,

[li]When you are trying to work a puzzle and have no idea what to do, duh, {Spoiler}Look at the rules in the upper left! Yes, it took me at least 3 or 4 times trying to solve different puzzles before I remembered to do that from the start, rather than only after I'd exhausted all my potential "guesses" at what I was supposed to do! [/li] [/ul] I dont think either of the above two things constitute real spoilers, since if you are past the 3rd puzzle or the 1st door, you've already realized these points. But figured I'd put them within the spoiler tag just in case someone seriously wanted absolutely no hints at all, even "obvious" ones!!!

This spoiler may help if you are stuck on opening the doors. {Spoiler}Around the various halls/rooms there are paintings with names on them. These names correspond to different doors to open after you have arranged the puzzle in the right form.It will open with the right name. Some times the names are not on paintings.

cyril50 , regarding the paintings, even if it seems like you're getting nothing from clicking on them, click on them anyway! This is one of the unspoken "achievements" in the game as the number of paintings you clicked upon will be tallied in your final game stats and helps towards your final ranking when you complete the game. I am about to get into the 2nd floor of the manor after this, but it is most definitely not the first time I've played. While you're exploring any scene, run the mouse cursor over everything. I really mean everything! There are a lot of little hidden tidbits everywhere which is a big part of the game even if it doesn't seem like it. Pay attention to how the cursor changes while mousing around. The door puzzles are way easier if you know to run the cursor over the bottom left corner as an example, since the finished picture and the name for the door are there.
You will have to backtrack/leave some puzzles for now because not everything is linear - for many of the puzzles you have to find the appropriate clue elsewhere before coming back to the puzzle. If the game dialog says something about you needing a clue, click the "leave" button on the top right and come back to that puzzle later.
smitty189 , feel better soon and I'd give this game a rest until you've recovered. Exploring Arcana Manor is a puzzle solver's delight, but it's sure not easy and it's the most fun I ever had giving myself a gigantic headache!
Super secret secrets of the game: {Spoiler really hidden secrets!} If you go to the Extras and check out the general game help - NOT the cheater's compendium WT - at the bottom of one of the help pages is a door sigil saying "Arcana". By the library door near the beginning of the game is a plaque with "Merlin" on it. If you enter both "Arcana" and "Merlin" on the door sigils that have only 6 spaces before entering the actual correct name for the door, I'm pretty sure these are the 2 most secret of the game secrets ever. This was hinted to in my game tips thread elsewhere, but not actually stated before. If you have already opened doors 2 and 3, it's too late to go back and earn these secrets, sorry.
