Forgot to mention earlier, but I am LOVING this game! I'd gotten 5 keys before I quit yesterday & I'm already grumbling that I've got to finish some real life chores before getting back to the game later tonight. Great exercise for the brain. And I've realized the developer(s) were not pure sadists - often they provide little clues in the puzzles that help solve them...if only we notice the clues! Like the puzzle with the partial circles in the Parlour. I kept putting off (trying to!) solve it because I was daunted at the 40,320 potential selections for the 8 puzzle pieces. But 2 easy observations the developers had put in quickly took the possibilities down from the 40,320 to a mere 24, more than simple enough for my little mind to handle and look for additional clues from! Makes me wonder what "hints" I missed in some of the other puzzles that I struggled more with. P.S., one additional piece of advice to add to SynthpopAddict 's great hints: If the game dialog says something about you needing a clue, click the "leave" button on the top right and come back to that puzzle later. - before just leaving the puzzle, check to see if any item in your inventory might work as the "missing" piece of information. Sometimes you already have what you need. Gee, our group games are doing wonders for my finding of great games to play. Both The Tiny Bang Story and The Cabinets of Dr. Arcana were sitting unplayed in my BFG inventory, and Gorogoa (a Woods' group play of a Steam game) would have been totally unknown to me without the great Woodsie who recommended it for our group!

Um...I don't want to let on where I'm at in the game...but if anyone wants a hint on something I'll be around. In the meantime, here's a little tidbit in case you get extremely stuck to prevent excessive tearing out of hair. {Massive Cabinet Puzzle Spoiler}The cabinet puzzles (ones that award you the key from that room) are typically more challenging than the other puzzles you encounter. Per lurkercat's earlier comment about the developer not being quite as sadistic as it may look at first glance, they actually provide the solutions to several cabinet puzzles if you know what code to enter into the gate when you reach the 13th room. So if you're super stuck on a puzzle and don't want to be dinged for using the Skip button or looking at the WT, try leaving said puzzle and going on in the game otherwise. When you reach the gate, enter the secret codes and get yourself an easy out of some of the trickier cabinet puzzles! These codes are part of the game secrets for bettering your final rank anyway.
There are 2 secret codes for the gate hidden somewhere in the mansion for which you'll have to jot down as they don't go into the journal. Without totally ruining it, each one is a sequence of 4 symbols.

SynthpopAddict , I Have messed up I was going really well with 6 keys then I tried to find the room with the clock and it's gone so I think I need to start again. Cancel that. Must have been a glitch as now in the library with the clock yet before it just took me straight upstairs but rebooting seems to have worked.

I'm only on the second floor in the game, now I'm trying to find a clue to something at somewhere... I thoroughly enjoy this game... I have used the hint button, I have to admit, but it's like I didn't, because the Hint feature only shows a location of an unsolved puzzle, and only if you are in the same room with the unsolved puzzle (duh! Thanks! I already now THAT!)... If you stuck in terms of where to go next, the Hint button doesn't work...
The door puzzles are fiendish! LOL! I spend pretty time to assemble the calligraphies, because the tiles are rotating, too, which makes the jigsaws quite difficult (for me)
I had this game for a while, I started it then I was like "I need to be relaxed and rested for this game", and on the same note I stopped playing it. I'm happy, I had a reason to revisit. It does remind me for 7th Guest and 11th Hours and 13th Doll - with its insults, the "To much strain on your little brain?" types...lol. Great choice for exercising my brain... Thanks!

cyril50 , I don't think it's anything with your PC - navigating the mansion is a little tricky sometimes. If you meant you were trying to go back to the library room on the 1st floor, it does take some clicking around to get back out of the aqua portal on the 2nd floor and be back downstairs. You have to get to the scene where you're standing outside the aqua portal looking at the symbol and the glow, and then click either left or right somewhere in the "hallway" portion of the scene to go downstairs, then mouse over the opened library door in between the 2 staircases to get into the library. Don't worry about that grandfather clock in the back corner of the library for now, as it's actually one of the last puzzles. You do, however, need to revisit the library a few times to fully complete the puzzle on the bookcase at the right. moni , yes the Hint button is pretty useless to me too since it doesn't tell you where you should actually head to next. Hoping they will improve that feature in the next game. When I'm doing the door jigsaw puzzles, I regularly mouse over the bottom left corner of the screen to get the thumbnail of the finished picture and start with one of the bigger or otherwise more obvious part of the symbol like the trunk of the symbol or an obvious large loop, and go from there.

Many Manyy thanks to SynthpopAddict for all the helpful tidbits. This is a great puzzle game just wish my brain wasn't so fuzzy (here's where I blame my cold lol )It kinda sorta get a tad easier the longer you play and get used to the way the game roles. On Key 6. Luck to all

SynthpopAddict , There was def a glitch which corrected once I left the game and came back as no matter how many times I tried to enter the library it took me upstairs. This was from the part where you can see both upstairs and downstairs but is fine now and I am now on the scarab beatle puzzle and it is taking me for ever, I refuse to skip so back to the scarab beatle Woohoo, cracked it, 10 keys now

Aw, smitty189, like you, I was thinking the game got a bit easier as I went along and learned its mechanics. But now I am thoroughly stuck & so far have not been able to find my way to progress. If anyone has a subtle hint for moving forward, I'd appreciate it. My inventory holds: 6 keys 2 cypher scrolls 1 amulet (the abracadabra one) I also have the purple gem, but no name/symbol that matches it, and 1 unused name/symbol (Medusa) but no gem that matches it. I've entered all the downstairs rooms and the Guest Bedroom and Game Room on the 2nd floor, though I havent yet been able to get into either of the spiral staircases from the 2nd floor. And no matter how many times I go back through all the places I can reach, I cannot seem to find either the name/symbol that matches my purple gem, nor the gem that matches the name/symbol I do have. Like moni, I found the hint useless the only time I tried to use it, so havent bothered trying it again to get out of my current mess...though I'm almost ready to try it in every single room I have access to, just to see whether it barfs up one of my missing elements. Anyone got a clue to help nudge me along??

lurkercat, I remember being stuck on 6 but can't remeber exactly what I did but remember once I was facing an unlocked room then scrolled right and found another door so when you are facing a door etc try right or left of that door and see what happens.

Thanks cyril50 , but it turns out I finally found my error myself and it turned out to be a very dumb one - I forgot(!!) to explore a new room adequately - did one puzzle and left. Turns out my 2nd upstairs room was the Master Bedroom, not the Game Room (duh, I'd wondered why I hadnt seen any game either mounted or to be played!), and it had both a name/symbol I'd missed AND a puzzle I'd missed (the big chest one I think SynthpopAddict just referred to (and happily I did not open her spoiler since I thought the chest would appear somewhere later in my journey).
Ah, when I think how many times I returned to all the rooms I'd visited looking for the mysterious missing info...and apparently neglected this room every single time. Tsk! Oh well, at least no one can say "consistency" is not among my (gulp) virtues(?).

lurkercat , pennmom , cyril50 , SynthpopAddict , moni , smitty189 , I am missing a scroll. If anyone knows where the 3rd scroll is can you either put a spoiler here or message me. Have 10 keys now but need the last scroll. Thanks in advance Update Cancel that. Have found the 3rd scroll. I was missing a clue and I now have that clue .It is sometimes a long time before you get a clue to crack a puzzle. Still waiting for the clue for the clock in the library. This is a wonderful challenging game and thank heavens there is no time limit

I have finished it and according to them used the skip 7 times, wow, that really knocks your rating so will start again and now I know the ins and outs will try to improve my rating. Wonderful game.

I will confess that after finishing the game the first time, I went back and looked at the Cheater's Compendium afterwards to see just how to do a puzzle or 2 that I skipped. It still took me a few runs through the game to really "get it" and the arrows puzzle never ceases to stump me (I will confess to finally writing the whole solution down). [red-faced]

SynthpopAddict, I did as you advised and used my old profile to look at the cheaters guide and it is very thorough but make sure you only use it from the profile you have completed then go back to your new profile or it will seriously damage your rating

Completely agree with you there cyril50 about using the built-in WT dinging your rating. But the way the WT is written is so hilarious to me at least that it's worth it to read it through after the fact just because Dr. Arcana is so full of himself throughout it. (rofl) There are a few secrets in the game which aren't in the WT which you still have to discover for yourself if you want to achieve Mysterium Master rank. The person I'm really jealous of is my friend Ashmoor, who is such a puzzle solving maven he achieved Elite Order of Arcana on his very first run through the game and if not for missing a couple of the super hidden secrets, would have been Mysterium Master. I'm not tagging him here since he's busy working on more cool games of his own for the rest of us. ;)

I'll join to the confession...The arrows puzzle stumped me too, that was one of the few (!) I've skipped... Second time around I will put a red face on, as well, and probably look it up, too Peek-a-boo
