Aarrrggghhhh! I HATE switching between Ivo and Wilbur - and all the walking around they do before being ready to use when the switch is done. Even worse, though, a piece of my inventory has mysteriously disappeared and (as I consulted the walkthrough when I ran out of ideas at one point), apparently I need that very item of inventory to progress! And to make matters worse, I've just been using the autosave slot whenever I exit and the last time I used a named slot was way back when Wilbur collected the fertilizer in his home well before starting on his adventure...so a huge amount of space to "back up to" if I cannot finesse my way around the mysterious disappearance of my needed item! Grrrrrrr. {Spoiler}Ivo and Wilbur are confronting the orc at the airship. According to the walkthrough, I need to attach the rope to the overhead beam & use it to move the cargo....but the rope, which USED to be in my inventory, is now missing from it, even though I havent used it anywhere. Sigh. Tomorrow I guess I'll try acting "as if" I already deployed it to the necessary spot & see if things will progress ok from there anyhow. Not up to facing the disappointment tonight if that should fail! You probably already figured this out. I went on the GameBoomer walkthrough and put "rope" in the "Find on this page" option in my browser. There is rope all over this game and several places where you have to pick it up. I didn't want to read too much so I don't know exactly where you are but.... {Spoiler} You take the silver elven rope in the basement with Grandad. You take a piece of the heavy rope by the bookstand to get thin rope in the Swamp of the Dead.
You take the rope on the airship when Nate is arguing with Ma'Zaz. You use the rope on the pillar at the upper town gate and then later take it back to be used on the transport. You take the rope outside of the temple.
You get rope by the acid pond. {Spoiler} The rope you got at the beginning of the game was used to make Wilbur's parachute and the whole parachute disappeared when he landed at the gate.
I don't think you can progress in the game unless you've completed all of the tasks within a location so my guess would be that you've missed some new rope somewhere.
Hope this was more helpful than annoying.

Thanks Jo . The benefits of a g-o-o-d night's sleep - woke up this morning and my little brain immediately noted "Oh, you silly goose, of course you used your inventory item before - but it is right near by - just nick right over and pick it up again"! Ah, "God's in his heaven, All's right with the world!". ....omigosh, a blast from the past. A trillion years ago when I was a mere child in 10th grade English class, Mrs. McCormack insisted we memorize a line or two from every poem we studied. (Pippa Passes by Robert Browning!). She also used that snippet to impart a grammar lesson to us - it was "all right", not the "alright" which was otherwise vulgarly trending in our little worlds. Wonder if she realizes how often her little bits of doggerel find their way into our little minds, lo these many years afterwards. P.P.S. And while I was bemoaning my sorry fate last night of my missing inventory item, I did go off to the discussion sections on Gog & Steam to see if anyone else had reported what I mistakenly thought was a program glitch (ah, Sensei Jo , how well you are training me!). (Duh, side note - it seems the Steam community is FAR more likely to have answered a query than the Gog community is!). Anyhow, was entertained by one entry in particular. One writer was quite concerned with the prologue - Ivo appeared in quite the skimpy costume and egads, McGuffin had a whip? To what nefarious purpose might such a thing have been put? In any event, he wanted to know whether such salaciousness was confined merely to the prologue, or whether his delicate sensibilities would be under attack throughout the entire game and should he therefore skip it entirely. The world is indeed full of diversity!

In any event, he wanted to know whether such salaciousness was confined merely to the prologue, or whether his delicate sensibilities would be under attack throughout the entire game and should he therefore skip it entirely. The world is indeed full of diversity! The only time I thought about Ivo's clothing was when she pocketed the staff which was longer than she was tall and it didn't break the line of her costume. How many times have I been out to eat and had to unzip my pants in the car because I had dessert? How much easier would life be if it ran by adventure game logic?
The mummy would have shocked that person at Steam because the mummy had the audacity to mention Ivo's breasts while observing that she didn't look much like Mortimer. (Don't you seriously love that mummy?) Anyone who could take offense with this game has lived a very sheltered life.
I'm glad you found your rope! It's happened to all of us and I'm sure it's some kind of philosophical theory probably called Occam's Doh for the realization that the simplest explanation was right all along.

AS amusing as the mummy was death was pretty droll as well. Sometimes it feels like Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert helped with this

Okay, this is driving me crazy. I'm in the town with Wilbur and the merchant says, "If you have toooo....". What is that from? I keep thinking Billy Crystal in the Princess Bride but I can't find it with a search. I hate it when I have something rattling around in my brain and I can't place it.

So, I had the "right" idea often in the sunken temple, but would have been seriously unable to get through it without the walkthrough, as my "great" ideas were often lacking at least one step to make them usable. On the other hand, seems like a couple of my brilliant ideas should have worked just as they were, had the developers simply considered the same things: (1) Rather than using the cylinder on Munkus (though I tried putting it out there before he entered, hoping he would simply "slip" on it upon arising), I did think I should have just been able to tie him up with the rope from my fishing pole to eliminate him from the action; (2) to get rid of the troll guarding Wilbur & Nate, I wanted to toss the pebbles onto the ledge we knew from before was too weak to support anyone, using that draw him out there to investigate & hence drop him into the sea, or (3) I wanted to use my fishing pole to hook the bee's nest, then throw that at the troll and, while he was dancing around trying to avoid being stung, hope he fell into the sea by himself...or I was prepared to have Ivo step in to give him a strategic push. Sadly, none of my "great" ideas were allowed! Out of curiosity, who did everyone "trust" to enter the hidden chamber once all 3 crystals were pressed? I chose Ivo

OK left the temple not easily had to throw the stones at Munkus at least 10 times and now have arrived in a graveyard with some whacked out zombies a gay knight and a weed smoking minotaur. What could POSSIBLY be next

smitty189, And weren't you amazed that, no matter how many times you tried the same ploy on Munkus, he never seemed to catch on to the fact that is was an attempted trap and fell for it every time?? Or that ammo kept magically respawning? Gave me a grin in spite of my frustration with it all.

lurkercat, It's too true lol But, have you gotten to the earth pixies yet? Any suspicions I might harbor as to the fact that the game is definitely for adults were confirmed. It's another place where I seemed to skulk about for forever.

Still havent gotten a chance to try the rain dance, but I GOTTA find a way to either get Nate to succeed at the mine OR to at least get him to stop swearing so fiercely after the elves evict him each time...particularly since the bleeps rarely manage to cover his hearty swear words! After the 10th or 12th time Nate gets carried out, it sure does get a bit much. Shaking Computer

So nice to have friends and stay over BUT it's also nice to have the house all quiet and to myself. I've only been able to to play in tiny bits and am about to take a dip in the sewer (I think). Been afraid to read too much of the forum yet so will try to catch up in the next few days.

So I have a dumb question that I'm hoping someone can answer. Three almost identical things appeared in my inventory while talking to the Paladin, then 2 disappeared, and now none of them are there. Never knew quite what they were, didnt know what they were for, didnt (deliberately) use them, and have no idea where they've gone! Not putting this in a spoiler, 'cause since I dont think I ever used them, dont think they are relevant to the game??? Forgive me for being a tad hazy on the details, 'cause it has been a bit since I had the objects.
Anyhow, while Nate was talking to the Paladin somewhere along the line, there was discussion of something I think was call buffs (or buffed?). I remember being confused at the dialog at the time. Anyhow, up popped 3, all in caps, acronyms (something like SVR, NMG, or similar - I dont actually remember for real), all 3 letters long and I seem to remember the Paladin in an "oh, alright" moment, agreeing to give something to Nate. 3 roundish, reddish items went into my inventory. One at least was labelled with a 3 letter, all uppercase name that at the time I wasnt sure matched any of the 3 acronyms noted in the prior discussion (which also confused me, but I figured maybe I just misremembered the acronyms). A brief while later, two were gone & one remained. Then a bit later than that, all three were gone. I never intentionally applied them anywhere (though sometimes this game uses things out of my inventory without my having to deliberately access them, as they just come up in the conversation when someone is fulfilling someone else's requests). Searching the walkthrough for "buff" gets me no hits nor I see anything promising jump out at me just looking at all interactions with the Paladin (though of course they could have been there & I just missed them...not at all an unusual occurrence for me!!). I looked at both the Gameboomers & Steam walkthroughs. I dont know what these were, why they appeared, or why they disappeared. I'm sure I wasnt imagining them, but I'm now soooooo confused. Can anyone help me out?? Please. I'm really not crazy. I DID see them!! HELP!

I'm really not crazy. I DID see them!! HELP! I looked at the GameBoomer walkthrough and found this: {Spoiler} The Paladin gives Nate power spells: sdr/sdk/sdw.
So I put {Spoiler} power spells in the find on this page and found
{Spoiler} nothing. Zip, zilch, nada.
I have no idea what that means but you would think if Nate had to use one, it would mentioned it in the walkthrough
So you're not nuts and I can be a character witness at the hearing.
ETA: I've been a little tied up because my Mom and sister are here from Florida so haven't gotten a lot of game time in. Plus I've been talked into taking the train to Chicago with my Mom to visit one of my brothers. At least I have an excuse this time for bailing on a game this time.

I may have to bail on this game. I reached the orc camp for the contest but when Nate receives a crumpled note and is supposed to read it nothing I can do will get him to read it. I watched a you tube walkthrough and he just reads it without it I can't progress and although it has been great fun I just don't know if I want to start over any ideas welcome

smitty189, Do you have an earlier save? When you load the game you could just choose to play again from the last save... hm?

I watched a you tube walkthrough and he just reads it without it I can't progress and although it has been great fun I just don't know if I want to start over any ideas welcome Is the note in your inventory? Have you tried right or left clicking on it? Can't remember which works but it will say at the bottom of your inventory something like "Read note". That's how you would have accessed the map and the ingredient list for Wilbur's spell. Wilbur read the books in the magic shop just by clicking on them.
Found this at GameBoomers: {Spoiler} The other Nate asks for something to stop Ma'Zaz from winning. This Nate gives him the crumpled note.
And this on Steam: {Spoiler} INVENTORY: Automatically give the crumpled note to Nate.
So maybe that's how he reads it.
Don't start over. You're almost at the end.
ETA: Should have included the actions before and after: {Spoiler} Exit to the back of the camp. Return to the front.
INVENTORY: Automatically give the crumpled note to Nate.
Automatically exit the camp.

Wow, Jo , great to have Fam-ily around! Enjoy them!! I'm impressed at how good you are at finding things! Worked much faster than my plodder method. After writing my post, I went off and finally found a full video walkthrough of the game. Laborously plodded through, skipping, till I happened upon the scene I remembered (exactly the one you found!). So far, all I know is I got the spells around 7:29 in the video - By 7:36:07, one was gone (I was in the mines by then) - By 7:40:30, two were gone (still in the mines) - At 7:56:20, one still there, at end of scene with crying lady in crypt. By 8:00:59, while talking to twin ogres, and at FIRST display of inventory since last scene with crying lady & with no inventory being added or used in the interim, last one is gone/li] Duh, even my obsessive little nature says it is probably not worth virtually single-stepping the video to find where the other ones vanished to. Guess I'll chalk it up to one of the vast mysteries of life (or at least to artifacts the developers perhaps thought about using but then lost interest in!). Glad to know I wasnt crazy in having seen them and then lost them!

Jo, Of all the fixes you discovered (you really are Sherlock) the only one I hadn't tried was right clicking (forgot about doing that for the spell) but it worked instantly and now I am back on track. I knew I was nearing the end and that's why I was loathe to start over. Enjoy your train trip. Travel by train is great. The daughter of a railroader have been doing it since I was 6 months old.
