moni , If you solved the Observatory puzzle in Keepsake without the assistance of a walkthrough (even using every single in-game hint), then you are a frigging GENIUS!! I bow in utter awe!
... I got Keepsake on disk during one of our shopping trip in Walmart (2007ish) The disk had 4 adventure games, but I only remember Keepsake from it (I think, one other was Schizm and an other with a Pharaoh and Egypt and a curse, ). My husband got Tomb Raider for himself in the very same time (Double Dang Tits Lara Croft) and I wasn't gonna let him go until he bought the Keepsake one for me. He kept telling me that it is probably too advanced for me (because I had language issues, too), but he got the disk for me ($19.99). I got on Keepsake right away, then pretty soon it was clear, that my hub was right - it was way over my head. But I am very stubborn, and got a notebook and pencil, and started meticulously jotting down my progress, and moves in puzzles, I draw my own map, and I made note about every conversation segments with information to later puzzles. I had no idea about possible walkthroughs. I remember filling up my notebook and just a couple days ago, I was in a mad search after it in the house, so I could utilize it now - but we had moved like 3 times since, and I probably tossed it.
Anyways, I know, I didn't use walkthrough the first time (I didn't know they would exist...) so I used paper-pencil and the game took a month or maybe even 2, to finish. Right now, I want to reenact the same experience, I still have faint memories about some of the puzzles, but I will most likely reach to walkthroughs on the end... Because, I'm not a genius and I also have, hundreds of other games to play - in that time this was the only one I had.
BTW. They had some "easter eggs" hidden in the disk version, like you could fast travel with ctrl+i (I accidentally found that one) and there was one more huuugggeee one! if I hit the space bar during solving a puzzle, the game "solved" the next step in the puzzle and/or corrected a wrong move, but this was working only occasionally - not always. And there were probably more easter eggs hidden, I found only those two. But they were a big help.

I was making great progress. Got through the observatory, through the ship's bottle in Nathaniel's office, through the Art Class puzzle, through the ghost library, and had FINALLY changed Zak back to a human. We were off and running to go make our way into the sanctuary, just doing an extremely simple bopping through teleporters as we've done millions of times before....and the game crashed with an exception! Had no idea when I had last done a save, so was really dreading what would happen once I brought the game back up. Happily, I'd at least saved as soon as I'd finished in the Art Class so not quite as bad as it could have been. But the ghost library is one of those "simple but sorta easier to do randomly than really figure out the logical series of moves" puzzles that takes lots of steps but little brain power....and now I gotta do it all over again. Aaarrrrggghhhh!! I'd been soooo good about doing frequent saves, but was sooooooo excited to finally have the last thing I needed in order to change Zak back that I totally forgot about saving this time. Several nuisance-y backtrackings required too, which annoyed even while I was doing them the 1st time. Sigh. Will I never learn?!

Oh sob, sniff, sniff. I've finished Keepsake. Great game, but must say I did not love the ending....though it did contain one absolutely excellent tie-back to an earlier event/observation. Took me a mere (mere?!) 41 hours to complete...but that was with substantial help from both the in-game hint and, for a few of the puzzles, trusty UHS. Handy of Steam to keep track for me of my many mis-spent hours (oh well, the house was going to get messy again even if I did spend that time addressing its needs!). Terrific game moni - thanks for suggesting it!

I didn't get around to playing yesterday until about 8pm. I fooled around with what I assume is a weather globe but I couldn't see that it was doing anything. Took a hint which told me to go solve the observatory puzzle. I decided I didn't have enough brains left at the end of the day to do that because lurkercat had scared me with her warning. So I watched a show called Mr. and Mrs. Murder on Acorn TV. Back on the job today!
