SynthpopAddict, At least at Steam, what you see is what you get. They're just a store so they stock as much as they can. They don't try to dress it up with membership perks, points or exclusion. Sales are open to everyone. I find it much easier to deal with Steam than trying to figure out what the hell BF is doing now. And the variety is so great, I can always find something I want.

I don't think Bigfish is bad now. I just hope things don't get bad with the change over.

I noticed you earn Steam points for purchases, which you then use to decorate your profile page, or can gift points to someone else for them to decorate their profile page, or something like that? BF's sales are open to everyone too, but non-members don't get as good a deal. BTW, you already said "suck the big one" in one of your earlier posts even though you said you weren't going to...thanks for the chuckle. :D

SynthpopAddict, I just ignore all of that and Steam ignores me except to tell me when something is on sale which is the way I like it. I've got 219,484 points and have no idea what to do with them. I could buy emojis but I never chat with anyone. I've written exactly one review. Somebody gave me a badge but I don't know who it was. It's like my relationship with my grocery store. I'll give you money and you give me what I want and I'll go home. I was DEEPLY involved with the BF forums and I'll never do that again with a corporate entity. Left unsupervised, I'm liable to say anything.

While I'm no longer a member at Big Fish & dont like how they've changed over the last umpty-ump years (virtual elimination of useful Customer Service, loss of live chat CS interface for members, loss of social & game-specific forums), one BIG advantage with them is the ability to trial games before buying. I trial far more games than I buy, but also buy more than I would without the ability to try them out first. It is definitely a nice and worthwhile feature.
I've never figured out what Steam points, trading cards, or achievements are all about. Gather some folks are quite into them though.

lurkercat, I agree with what you are saying. I do buy from Steam but only if I have trialed a game elsewhere. I need to trial a game. I can do that on iwin, Alawar, Gamehouse,BFG, but not Steam and I am the proud owner of the new Rescue team game from iwin which steam only have a preview at the moment.

I once had a several weeks-long PM conversation with someone about one of the interior decorating games that kept spawning new residents, depending on how big the house was that you were decorating. The people would just walk around like zombies, nobody paid attention to the babies, who just crawled around anywhere they wanted, and one guy walked right through a wall, across the lawn, and off-screen. It was BIZARRE. Anyway, the conversation was about how many coffee tables I needed to buy to fully fill this house before there was no room to spawn any people. Turns out, the answer was "a hell of a lot." The other person kept asking for screenshots because she found this whole thing terribly funny, but I had no idea how to do that.

Jo , metmichallica , lurkercat , Valkara , joybelle , SynthpopAddict , honestly, I think the majority of members just use their PCCs to buy SEs and fill up those cards by using the monthly game credits for CEs or occasionally buying CEs on a BOGO. I had it down to a science and rarely spent real money for the games so I can understand why BF wants to change the system...but it won't really change things for me personally because they don't have decent HOPAs at this point (the only reason I stayed) heck, they don't have ANY HOPAs now and the SEs they offer have ALL been available at Steam first anyway so it's not like we are getting first dibs!

Whew! I made it back! Yep, I have a system for buying games that's worked for years. I've rarely paid full price for games, or at least paid and not received bonus punches. I will buy a CE with a GAMECLUB code because that means you get a CE for the price of a regular SE. I've become very particular about games, rejecting a lot of the ones in genres and even series I used to like. King's Heir and Jewel Match spoiled me for many other games. If I don't see adaptable prose potential and it's not something like a jigsaw puzzle or Pixel Art, chances are that I'll pass it by. The exceptions are if it's already a favorite TM game like the railroad ones or the Greek mythology ones or the female-archaeologist-must-rescue-father/uncle/mentor ones. I'll also get something if it's cute (love the M3 games with the feisty little animals that chirp and roar and go 'ribbit').

I may end up buying the Domini/Do game that has been released first at Steam just to see if it's been improved at all. The other was set to be released on May 3rd but hasn't. Wonder if we'll see that one at BF.
ETA: pennmom, I had a system, too. It mostly involved forgetting that I had PCCs and letting them expire. At the end, I never bought enough games to fill up my punch card anyway.

I finally got a little notebook to write all the codes in, plus their expiry dates. I still have 1 PCC that expires July 15. I've got one credit and my punch card is empty. I've been wondering if I should use that PCC to make sure I get a whole game and not just the points for part of a game.

Didn't they say they are going to count Punch card coupon as 699 points?

Valkara , metmichallica , Yes..and that is the price of a standard edition. That hasn't changed. If you have ACTIVE PCC'S..ie (the one that expires on the 15th July...699 points will be given to you). For each credit you will also get 699 points. (1398 points) With what you have there Valkara , you will get enough points to buy a CE...that's how it will work differently. Games only have point value. And apparently you can choose how many points you put towards a game? So with your points you may choose to use half of them for a CE and pay half price in cash..and keep your other 699 for a good SE coming up. That's how I understand it anyway? I am assuming a CE costs 1398 points. But it means you decide how many points you want to cash in at any given time. And as we purchase we gain 15% of the purchase price..(like getting punches but lesser rate)..and I am told our game club membership also gives 699 points each month. But non members don't earn 15% of purchase..they get less..but I forget how much. BUT ..it still isn't totally clear..I am waiting to see how 'gameclub' works. ???

They delayed it again. Now it's July 18. Will that be this year or next? Sorry all, but that's the way I am feeling about it. How many times are they going to put it off? And they give no explanation. What do you think? . Michelle

I don't think they've thought this whole thing through completely. Somebody at BF came up with what they thought was a great idea. Then a member asked a question that they really didn't have a good answer for. So BF had to rethink their plan. Wash, rinse, repeat.

I'm starting to think they don't have the manpower or sufficient technology to implement the new system to every registered account in their system. There must be millions of them because this new system isn't just for Game Club members, it's for everyone. Or else they have been trying to install it, but it keeps on crashing or running into glitches.

After reading back some it brought back to me lots of bad memories. BFG was the first and only place I bought games from and their forum was the first I ever went in or even knew of what one was. I still bought games from them even after they kicked everyone to the curb from CCC. BFG made all kind of promises how they were going to upgrade the system and make the forums along with CCC even better. Straight out lies from Mod's posting how great everything was coming along and how it wasn't going to be to much longer and how great it was going to be. Then out of the blue a notice from a Mod was given that everyone in CCC had a week and CCC would close down. Not even leave it for just reading. The last straw for me is when they closed the gaming forums. I wasn't about to keep giving them money while waiting for the third strike from them, not directly anyway. They did leave the gaming forum so one can read what was but they are not safe to go to. I hope for those who still go to BFG they won't pull their again. What I mean by that is they found it easier to scrap CCC then it was to fix it and basically told loyal members and customers to go screw themselves, if didn't like it go somewhere else or join them at facebook. So if this new program they are pushing with the reward system doesn't or they can't work it out it makes me wonder if they may just shut down the reward system altogether including not going back to the old system with the punch card. Then just do sales now and then with discounts and members would get a better discount. Give the excuse of the new system they have been working on they can't get to work with their system and the old way has to many problems with it to fix to run properly on their system. Basically the same excuse they gave for shutting down CCC.
As for me it really doesn't matter what they do for I will never again use my account at BFG to buy another game from them. But there are peeps I care about that still go there and for their sake I hope BFG doesn't screw them over.
